Having read your post a couple of times I'm not sure whether you are saying the indicator isn't working or whether the bulb is flashing, but it's not orange. Clear indicator lenses often rely on a bulb that has been painted orange. The paint peels off with age and so you may just need a bulb.

My current car is the first I have owned with electric folding door mirrors. Given that the majority of drivers clearly have no idea as to how to adjust the height of their car beams I am frequently distracted by vehicles behind me when driving at night. The option of being able to fold in the mirrors is excellent but I am concerned as to whether it is legal to do so. Can anyone clarify the position ? Read more

folding mirrors (that you can fold when moving - I've never seen that before)

They don't all fold in/out based on ignition switch off/on - mine aren't automatic so there's a button on the door - I do use it on the move in very narrow roads - to avoid it being belted by oncoming traffic.

Any help with the following issue would be gratefully received. I'll try to keep it brief..here goes..

My flat, which I rent comes with a private car park and we have one allocated space which my flat mate uses. Within the car park however there are a number of areas that are not allocated spaces, but which have space to park a car. ... Read more

Trouble is concrete it don't work like that.

Modern flat developments have their parking regualted by planning and by the terms of the lease/commonhold for the shared areas. If there's one space per flat then that's what you're signing up to. I matters not whether you could squeze in a few more (small?) cars....

Hi, Reading all the forum pages about headlights, Xenon etc., I wonder if there is a schedule of cars that can easily have replacement bulbs fitted. The bulbs on my Mazda 626 can be changed in seconds.....lift the bonnet, unclip the protective cover at the rear of the lights, swap bulbs, job done. This was equally true of my previous Carina. Is it that the Japanese are more customer friendly? Read more

All new cars from Jan 2013 must have all bulbs easily changed by the driver EU regulation.

Whether they do is another matter.

I have a Nissan Pathfinder with a broken crank shaft. The vehicle is a 57 plate with 51000 miles on the clock, auto box. I am the second owner having bought it three years ago. The vehicle has had all its services carried out by Nissan main dealers and the service book is stamped for each, together with the workshop check lists and receipts etc.

Nissan so far have not offered to help me with the cost of the repair which is going to run into several thousand pounds to get the vehicle back on the road. This attitude is based on the fact that the vehicle is out of warranty by two years despite having only done 51000 miles.... Read more

I am never one to advocate seconhand engines but i think being as these Pathfinders are a littler on the rare side you may find a low mileage one in a scrap yard & take the car to an independant or nissan specialist rather than a dealer to fit. I think you will save a bundle.

just dont use one of these cheap engine specialist for a rebuild ! they suck you in and then milk it big time & the warranties have every wiggle out of scenario going !

The enquirer who's just started using fog lights when it's raining is breaking the law unless visibility is seriously reduced, which the Highway Code suggests is less than 100 metres (328 feet):

226 You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet).
You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves (see Rule 236).

236 You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.... Read more

I saw one of those semi-brain dead drivers today, Male around 20 got into his car and drove off from the chip shop without any lights around 6pm so it was well dark. His dark coloured car was invisible and the roads were like sheet ice.

Over the last few weeks when the weather has been a lot colder, I have noticed a whining noise on start up. It appears to be coming from the front nearside of the engine bay. I think it's to do with power steering, as it seems to sound louder each time the steering wheel is turned and quietens down again on the straight ahead although still audible.

The noise disappears after a few minutes when the engine has started to warm up and it doesn't seem to have to reach the normal operating temperature. ... Read more

I wrote to you some months ago about this new car we bought and immediately noticed driving home excessive steering vibration going over rumble strips and ordinary road bumps (not potholes). Renault Cardiff kept telling us what it was not ie suspension, tracking, balance, brakes etc...... I asked you if you thought it was 'fit for purpose'........since we had other problems with it viz leaking panoramic sunroof, loose bolt inside the door frame, clutch needed a new spring after 500 miles......Some lunatic at renault cardiff said that the problem was because the tyre pressures in the front were too high and dropped them down.....I found out some days later when my wife told me what they had suggested as the problem and when I personally checked the pressures they were down and we were driving on seriously underinflated tyres. I knew the pressures were as per recommendations anyway since I check all my cars at least monthly...........if something had happened the driver would have been found criminally negligent with tyres at low pressure.......I was very angry. By this time I had already contacted renault UK and I said I wanted a second opinion so we took it to Leyshon Flint and sons at Bridgend who are a smaller renault dealership. Immediately at the test drive they knew something was wrong.....they actually agreed with the customer.......I have owned different cars for 41 years and the clio is my wife's smaller run around as I call it. Anyway they examined it and found the bracket at the base of the steering column had not been fixed at the right angle at the factory. They replaced it and after 3 days the car was brought back to the house and immediately on driving it even on a smooth road I could tell that it was now like 'driving a new car'.....which it was really.....!!...rumble strips are now traversed as per our CLK and ML......so the rule is persist if you truly believe that there is something wrong with your new car and insist on a second opinion. It would have been easy to accept just being told at Cardiff what was not wrong with it and we felt like we were 'nuisances' for coming back with the same problem..........needless to say we will never step into renault cardiff again and as long as we keep the Clio then Leyshon Flint will get the benefit of the servicing........they have been exemplary all along both Leighton Daniels, service manager and Andy another manager there deserve applaud.....and I would suggest a good garage award if there was one.....!..........Incidentally our problem is now on the renault european database so if there is a cohort of new cars out there with the same problem they can get sorted out.......
