Can anyone help or advise me on my next best decision after a so called family friend borrowed my sprinter motorhome and filled the tank up with red diesel without asking me for permission.
I have trawled the internet and can see that a hefty fine (£500 FIRST OFFENCE) , vehicle impounded , cost to store and recover vehicle plus a calculation that all the mileage expended in that vehicle since I was the legal owner will have the fuel duty charged against...approx 35kmiles in the last 5 years.... I need some assistance on my second car purchase. We currently own a Lexus rx300 02 plate with 111k miles and a Polo 02 with only 12k miles on it (yes you read that right 12k miles). Neither car really work for us, the lexus is to big for the school run and eats petrol, the polo is 3 doors and a nightmare with 2 kids in car seats and I need more space for long distance relative vists at xmas.... Leather is only worth having if it is really good quality hide otherwise it has all the charm of vinyl-and it's still slippery and cold in winter. Good quality cloth is a better option for most people.
Hello all, this is my first post so thanks for taking the time to read it. I have a 57 Zafira Design 1.8 petrol with 32700 miles on the clock, vgc imaculate interior. I want to change it for a nother family car. I'm thinking of a similar age Toyota Avensis estate 2.2 spirt, but have also though tat the other end of the spectrum of a 307 SW 1.6 110bhp.
Any suggestions greatfully recieved. Thanks again. Read more
I’ve just received a full and final cash settlement of my C-Max CVT County Court claim against my Ford dealer and Ford.
The dealer paid me an agreed value of my car as at the time of transmission failure, less current salvage value. He also paid my independent specialist’s collection and inspection costs. All parties to the claim agreed to pay their own legal costs.... Read more
Hi all. rjp my Ford C-max transmission has pretty much died a death. I only bought this11 months ago. Sadly not been driving long and did see any pitfalls with the car when I bought it. Its done 72000 but have only put about 9000 on my self. Do you think there is any way I could sue the garage for selling it to me. Also on a side note do you know if they used the same transmition in the 2005 Ford focus zetec 1.6 auto as I'm a gluten for punishment...
I have just notice some smell when getting out of the car after some city commuting, smell coming from the rear driver side wheel. The brake disk is very hot (burnt my finger!). The other disks are warm but certainly not that hot. Also it feels a bit sticky when driving as in less power this morning, -5°C with a cold engine might be normal though.
Any suggestions? The smell could be the brake pads although it has a rubber/plastic smell.... Read more
The caliper and/or handbrake mechanism shouldn't be siezing at these mild temperatures. You should have it stripped, cleaned, lubed and reassembled. Otherwise the problem may return, or you may have a very slight drag on one which may not be noticed in driving but it will rob you of economy and wear your pads out fast.
I have just received a speeding ticket from the Catalan authoriies. Helpfully it is in Catalan!
I managed to find a translated web site, enter my details and track down my ticket. However when I hit the payment button it says it is trying to connect to a bank but nothing happens.... Read more
Thanks Collos - I hope you are right.
A few months ago the drivers door lock was playing up, kept cycling through trying to lock. Sprayed some GT85 and worked fine. Over the coming weeks, the lock has gradually got stiffer (to unlock) until it finally seized up. It locks fine, just cannot unlock. The central locking works fine from the passengers side (locks and unlocks).
Also the drivers door can be locked and unlocked fine from the inside using the door handle.... Read more
Wash out the lock with WD40 or similar. GT85 is good for this function but is not suitable as a long term additive in locks.

Will try to keep this short:
Bought Fiat Panda 2005 1.1 active on 2nd Jan 2013 for £2295 (plenty for a car with 64K on clock) from a large franchised dealership. Picked it up Monday 7th Jan.... Read more
The magic word for getting a repayment/refund of a credit card payment is "Chargeback"
I've had to make a claim on my insurance, but forgot to add 3 points to my cover at time of renewal. From the moment I called about the accident I told them about the points, the person in the phone never seemed bothered and processed the claim. The car was a total loss so had to contact dvla who again informed the company of the points, obviously. Again I said I told the guy at time of incident who didn't make a deal of it. He said he'd pass that info on to the underwriters. I asked what would happen, he seemed to think they'd just charge me the increased price for the points. But I'm weary of that, tbh. Anyway, now the car isn't a total loss after all (got a new quote) and the insurance company have said they'll repair it at the new quoted price. They contacted the garage and told them to go ahead with the repair.
My question, can they refuse to then pay for the repairs once its finished because of the undeclared points or is them accepting to fix the car them saying they'll foot the bill? Because I'd rather not then have a massive repair bill, I'd be as well scrapping it if that's the case. Read more
I would not worry, though I cannot say 100 % I would be very surprised if your insurer decided not to indemnify you in this instance.
The very worst that would happen would be the added the points with effect from renewal, and charge you the difference, if any, in premium. The underwriting rules i work to would not charge extra for a three point offence, as your previous points would no longer be noted, then there would be no change. ...
I am looking to purchase a car in the next few weeks. My budget is 6k. I will be doing 10k miles per year. Previous car was a Saab 95 estate which I loved. It was all leather and had lots of gadgets but unfortunately the mpg was brutal. I have no need for an estate now. It will be mainly me and my other half in the car, I will have two kids out in it occasionally but not more than once a week. I tend to do a lot of short journeys locally. I am hoping for something that is fun to drive and has a sporty feel/look. I have Been looking at some Audi TTs and whilst I like the look of them they don't seem very reliable which is something I need.
Any suggestions would be helpful!
Thanks
