There has been a problem with X trail fuel filters and winter additives to diesel.
Definitely try the fuel filter first...
It seems very low milage, is it a good price? I know sometimes low milage isn't a good thing?... Read more
No MOT = no road test = no chance to warm up gearbox to find it is faulty.
Hi,
My C3 when first started makes quite a loud squeeky noise that runs in rythm to the usual noise of the engine turning over. It only lasts for about 10 mins and I guess once the engine has warmed up that's when it stops. I don't think this is too normal :/ . ... Read more
Probably the alternator belt slipping, when you first start the load is much heavier as the battery is being recharged, as the voltage rises the power consumed by the alternator decreases. The belt either needs tensioning or you need a new one.
Thought I'd give a little user report on the performance of winter tyres today on a fairly typical FWD family car.

Remember M&S stamped on the tyres of your X-Trail means nothing in relation to cold weather. Its purely a stamp meaning the tyre has a type of reasonably open tread pattern, unless the tyre has a 'snowflake' symbol embossed on the tyre it is not constructed with cold weather rubber compound.
The actual symbol for tyres approved to be used in parts of the world where "winter" tyres are mandatory is the "three peak mountain and snowflake" symbol....
Accelerator warning light coming on, was infrequent and switching off ignition and removing key, waiting 10 seconds and starting up again - like rebooting a computer- seemed to work. Now warning light more frequent and sometimes going into limp home mode. Car has been into main dealership in the past (this has been a long running problem) but no faults with accelerator have been logged. Also been to independent garage but fault not found. Read more
Never worked or had anything to do with Chrysler but I assume that this has a DB sourced engine three things spring to mind as pssible causes first is the EGR valve ,secondly the camshaft sensor and third the crankshaft sensor. That is of course if its not the accelerator body and the warning light is doing its job.

A few weeks ago I was talking to my friend 'The KIA Man'. I mentioned the new Golf would be 100kg lighter than the present model. He said that would mean it would have a worse ride because it was lighter. I told him that was utter codswallop. He didn't agree and said 'why do you think Rolls-Royce makes such big heavy cars?'. I had said it depends how a car is set up. He said it didn't make any difference. I did tell him about long travel 2CV suspension, but I'm sure he didn't believe me. And mention that low profile tyres can give a car a worse ride. He said it was down to physics - the heavier the car, the better the ride. In theory it is but lots of cars disprove that theory.

He didn't agree and said 'why do you think Rolls-Royce makes such big heavy cars?'.
The only reason they made big heavy cars was because that was what Rolls Royce made and had always made. Still make big cars but they are a bit lighter now.
Sunday night in the very cold the alarm went off 4 times due to no reason.
