Hi, I wonder if anyone can give any advice.

Bought a used Vauxhall Frontera on the 30th November. Traded in our old vehicle and paid a further £650 cash. The car was advertised and sold with a three month warranty.... Read more

I had my Dual Mass Flywheel replaced in August 2012, it was carried by an independent garage, but he used a genuine Audi part, the problem started again in December, there is a wobble on acceleration and when going up hill and I took it back to the garage for him to look at. He has told me that the car has to go back to Audi for them to investigate as they supplied the part and am I alright to risk paying them £130 an hour to look at it, as they might find its something else, it is the same problem and symptoms as when it went in August, I have questioned this and now he has come back and told me his mate has told him that you get the same problems if the gear box is going, the car is changing gear with no issues it just wobbles on acceleration and is fine when cruising. Could be driveshafts too, could have been damaged upon removal to do the flywheel..although that would be incompetant, I have seen it.

A genuine Audi DMF would not normally fail again so soon unless abused, oil contaminated or wrongly/loosely fitted.

My sons car has been in an accident, rear end damage that appears to be minor (bumper is intact but either side plastic bits sticking out and crease in boot) It has been reported, waiting for a response from the other insurance company, but is it ok to carry on driving it in the meantime? Does it have to be re-mot'd or reported to VOSA? Read more

"...is it ok to carry on driving it in the meantime?"

Probably yes, but the driver has a legal duty to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy - in this case, things like checking the lights work and that the boot is secure and won't suddenly fly open. Also, check that none of the loose bits of plastic are a hazard to pedestrians etc....

It's snow time again. Our Avenue is already sloping to an extent that tests cars in slippery conditions, but the increase at the end to meet the camber of the 'main' road defeats many. Some drivers have to try repeatedly and then come back with a shovel to clear the packed snow. At one time I used to go out and clear the snow so that I could get out, but now that I have a Subaru Outback I leave snow clearing to those younger than I.

This morning I helped push one car driven by a young woman (I think) over the brow. It never ceases to surprise me that people don't bother to clear the snow from their car windows before setting out. Don't they want to see sideways ?... Read more

The 406 was a decent and highly rated car during it's era, it sold in high numbers as well and had sensible sized wheel/tyres fitted.

There are many extremely knowledgeable contributors to the HJ Forum, who are able to share their wisdom with those who seek help. My posting is factual, based on almost 40 years experience in the motor trade up to the present day. Your posting, thunderbird, is speculative, and I see nothing in your facts (what facts?) or speculative deductions, that demonstrate that I am wrong. Perhaps you could provide some hard evidence that confirms your condemnation.

I am not even going to discuss it any more other than saying do you honestly think a gaarge selling new cars would send me out on the road uninsurred in their £18000 demonstrator. They never asked to see my insurance and I did not have to sign anything, all they wanted was a copy of mine and the wifes driving licences for "their insurance". If I was stopped by the Police or had an accident they would have some serious explaining to do if the car was not insurred. Legally i would be fine because my own insurance covers me so why should I worry....

Great example. Hope the plod picks up on it and uses it as evidnce to prosecute.

Is the car actually moving ? The front wheel doesn't look like it is rotating.
