Here is my problem I do apologize ahead of time because it is a pretty lengthy story
A few days ago I went to shut the car off it stalled but I just figured I must have let my foot off the clutch before I turned the key off, when I came back to the car some lights on the dash were dimly lit up so I thought I must have left the lights on but I didn't. I started the car and it was fine so went about my business. Arrived to my destination put the car in first turned the key and pulled it out of the ignition and the car kept running..thought I was nuts so tried to turn the key back and forth a few times still didn't shut off, and then the anti theft light came on (car with a key symbol). I put the car in neutral and pulled the ebrake and then turned the key and it shut off. When I went to pull away the ebrake light was still lit up even though it was off and then the abs light came on so I shut the car off again and turned it back on and it was fine. When I got home it shut up off fine again in neutral but I could still here something running when it was off I think it was the pump for the air actuated locks?? I hear the same sound every time I open the door and my friends with vw have the same thing. Anyway the noise still was going when I went in the house come back and the car was dead..killed the battery with the pump running for so long? Googled a few things and bad battery was one suggestion, we got one and the same stuff is still happening. So if you leave it first gear and it happens to shut off lights stay dimly lit up on the dash..if you shut it off with the ebrake the lights on the dash go out but the pump comes on.... Read more
This is really good stuff, I'm sure, but wow, it's expensive. £35 for one hour on the road, Pass Plus (that's a 6 hour course) for £275 - that's almost £46 an hour !!!! These prices are massively more than regular prices for driving lessons / pass plus - almost twice the cost. Read more
I am being offered a Mid 1980's BMW M3 by a Garage which is owed several thousand for works carried out by the orginal owner who is now deceased several months - he passed away while the car was still in the garage undergoing work. The vehicle (one of several) was left to the daughter of the deceased man. The garage owner contacted the daughter - via solicitor - some time ago offering the vehicle back in return of settlement of the outstanding money owed. The garage owner has told me that the daughter has shown no interest in the vehicle or settling the debt - and their solicitor is about to issue a final notification which - if not responded to or settled - will alllow them to sell the car off to recover the debts. The vehicle is in the posession of the Garage right now. Can you tell me if this sounds like the normal approach to foreclosure, fully legal and what I would need to do to ensure that (1) I pruchase the vehicle in full and am the legal owner and (2) what process is needed with the DVLA to get a new set of papers for the vehicle? Fully acknowledge what you say Palcouk, but it would be sensible for the repairing garage, who have a lien on the car, to apply for a new V5 as they have a genuine claim to title. They can then sell the car to the OP, who will sleep easier, no doubt. This method will add an extra keeper to the history, but that may even help when time for disposal comes.
Hi,

It's a troll - no 20-year olds who already have County Court judgements and Overdraft debts can sensibly think about "upgrading" from a Focus to a SLK.

I have a Mondeo 1.8 Ghia with an Sci engine and the engine management light is on. The fault code identifies it as an 'Exhaust Temperature Sensor' by the garage. It was assumed by my mechanic that it was probably located as part of the EGR unit, but when he asked the question when he was ordering the part, they didn't know. He phoned the service dept of the local main Ford dealer but they said they had never worked on this Sci engine and couldn't answer the question....it could be in the EGR unit or one of the two Lamda sensors on the cat????
So.... can anyone please tell me where this sensor is located on this model as no one seems to know? I'd be really grateful for any help.... Read more

Interestingly there is a 2 out of 3 chance this could result in a blocking high pressure resulting in a prolonged cold spell.
If that happens is the transport system ready for such an event and are you ready for it ?
If so in what way are you ready ? Read more

Recent request for details of how to use the radio in a meriva-easiest way to get a copy of the radio manual is to stop someone in a car park who has a meriva-they will probably lend you the manual. I can provide a copy of the relevant pages if required-by email or post. Read more

My first car was a K11 Micra, a 1 litre version from 1996. It (as did many others at the time) had problems starting on cold, damp weather due to faulty temperature sensors in the engine, which caused the engines to flood (quick short term fix was to remove the fuel pump fuse, crank the engine for about 5 seconds or so for the fuel to drain away, then replace the fuse and start as normal).
Even after the sensor was replaced (free of charge by Nissan, even though out of warranty), the car was never the best at starting in such conditions, and it was also very intollerant of short journeys (especially backing it out of the drive to swap positions with another car) which caused similar problems....

VW dropped pneumatic door locks on the Golf in 1998 for the Golf 4. The noise when you open the door is the fuel pump priming up and it is supposed to do that. I have had Golf 5’s do extremely odd things when the battery is going flat. I suggest a full charge first. As for fault codes, well it will have lots now so a full scan, print and clear would be a good idea, only pay any attention to what comes back on a subsequent read.
