I’ve got a 2006 2.2 TD Avensis. On Wednesday I filled up with diesel from Tesco in Amersham. A few miles later it started to miss under load. It felt just like fuel starvation or, thinking back to the days on manual chokes, leaving the choke pulled out when the engine was hot. The following day it was OK but the symptoms returned on Friday on a longer run. Coincidence?

On an older diesel I would have said that the fuel filter was blocked but modern ones are a lot more complicated. The problem could well be caused by an faulty injector, I wonder if the 'open circuit' referred to was in the injector itself or the wiring to it.

I would see if you can find a dedicated Toyota site for info, failing that take it to a reputable diesel specialist, they are far more likely to know the fault and are usually cheaper than a garage.

All the best Jb,
Is it cold enough in Norwich for you ,they tell me it's -12 there this week.
Bit of a shock after the milder climate of Ireland ?

I found the GSD's good too but only once warm, they hated the cold and not winter either, i mean just cool mornings especially in the wet.

Had the worse wheelspin ever from my venerable MB on those until they'd got warm say 5 miles running, plus they'd develop serious flat spots overnight, would take about 2 miles for the tyres to get round....

I could not lock the driver door. I thought may be frozen pour hot water on lock.Did not work replaced new battery in Remot Control. Did not work. It locked once with plastic key even that did not work after that.Rest of the doors lock/unlock OK. Could it be the wather freezing factor or some other Technical fault. Read more

I have recently used my car in the snow, after spining and slipping home then the ESP, Brake fluid & ABS light have come on and remain on, I thought disconecting the battery may reset the fault as I have not hit anything but the lights remain on, any ideas to resolve and what costs may be incurred. Thanks Read more

You need to start with a fault code read.

Hi guys,
My ford ranger has started smoking recently when revved, it's a blue smoke so I know it is oil. Today I've had the pipes from the turbo off, intercooler, pipes to the inlet manifold and they were thick with oil. The intercooler was basically swimming. It's done 100,000 miles could it be the seals in the turbo? Also it is running really rich as when revved it smells rich could it be the injectors need re-calibrating or new ones. How would I also know if the diesel pump has been played with? Because the nut/screw on top looks like it has been moved recently!?
Cheers

You will always find some oil in the intercooler pipes as the crankcase is vented into the air intake, the turbo seals will allow oil in if leaking but at 100,000 miles it should be OK providing the oil has been changed regularly.

The black smoke will in all probability be air starvation, it may be because the intercooler is clogged or it could just be that the air filter needs changing. I the pump has been altered that could also account for black smoke along with improved performance.

hi can i get help or advice please
November 2012 I saw an advert on the Auto Trader website for a car which i thought was perfect, it was for a BMW X6 XDrive 2009 going for £22,000. I was over the moon because i had been looking for a 4X4 vehicle for a long time and this one in particular was right up my budget. I contacted the seller and over the telephone we came to an agreement that the seller would accept £21,500 cash. With that settlement I went ahead and ran a HPI check on the vehicle and it came back clear so I proceeded to make my way were the seller was waiting for me.
I arrived to the train station and got a cab to the address that the seller had given me
Drove about a minutes to the house, the seller told me that he was the son of the seller his father got him to meet me last minute.
I did not see anything strange about that. I proceeded in what I travelled to the location and checked out the car VIN was correct and did a test drive everything looked normal with the vehicle I was very happy with the condition of the car. We went into the house which I assumed was the sellers sons house it looked very normal and lived in. in the kitchen i handed over the cash and the sellers son handed me the paper work for the car included the MOT/service history book and car v5c documents and the Manuel book for the car. I left the area very happy with my car.

a week later i sent the log book to DVLA to register as the new owner of the car about 2 weeks later I received a letter from the metropolitan police informing me that they have received a letter from the DVLA for a new keeper but they need to come.

On the 09/01/12 the police investigators came to my property to run checks on the car and they informed me that the car was actually a clone it had been stolen and made to look legit the number plate had been changed and so was the VIN So the car has been taken away by the police I and my pregnant girlfriend are £21,500 out of pocket we are expecting our first child. Now I don’t know what to do any advice Read more

Brand image? I knew a gentleman who went from a Rolls-Royce, to a Granada Ghia, to a Camry. He was happy with all of them.

If a car does what I want it to do I'll buy it, hence I had a Skoda and Merc at the same time. Now I have a Ford and a Merc. The Ford isn't as well made as the Skoda, but it is fun to drive.

Hi all, im new to this site and in need of some advice please. ive got low compression in one cylinder its saying 25 soin need of another engine. The engine code says ARX but I cant find one anywhere not even on ebay!

My question is what other engines will fit?... Read more

Crasher

An ARX is exactly the same base engine as the AUM and AUQ used in various VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda models BUT there are slight year variations, nothing dramatic though. Be very careful as these engines are very prone to oil pressure loss due to sludge in the sump....
