Hi all,

I’m looking to purchase a new car. The car I currently have is too small causing me a knee problem. I’m thinking of a Ford Focus. On driving to work I saw two 2006 models but one was a three door and one was a five door. I’m sure the three had much wider doors than the front doors of the five doors, was I seeing things or is this really the case?
If this is the case then does Ford have to build different shells for the cars as the pillar will be aligned differently depending on the number of doors the car has?
Is it just the Ford Focus that has different sized front doors who do other manufacturers do the same?
I’m interested to know if a three door car will be better for me to get in and out of as I’m 6’ 4” and do have trouble of getting in and out.

I have a 3 door polo but have also driven the 5 door variant.

As Im 6ft3" I have to move the seat quite far back. I have noticed that the b pillar on the 5 door polo does restrict some of my side view as its not as far back, and is more awkward to get in and out of. I found this the same with a 07 reg focus we have at work being a 5 door it does restrict my sidewards/ back qauter view, not as bad as a 5dr polo but It is annoying for me!...

At 6ft2in I found the seat tight without the seat height adjuster only available on the Laureate which begins at £8K... plenty of headroom... car runs nicely and "feels" sure-footed in contrast to some comments I have read... so if you are interested in a simple car without black boxes or stuff you never need then make sure you can get comfortable behind the wheel before you do an impression of Borat... Problem is a typical test drive is rarely long enough to discover if you are actually able to get comfortable.

I am a typical build (5' 9" and about 12 stone) and find a comfortable position in most cars quickly. But on a couple of ocations when buying cars I have struggled (Peugeot 206 was the last one) and I walked away, no point in spending good money to suffer....

Hi

When I turn on my heated front windscreen I get an Engine System Error come up. The battery then sounds flat although it isn't and I can't start the car. The garage can't identify the fault as it doesn't do it when they have the car. Anyone know what is causing it? Read more

The heated front screen draws a lot of current,so any problem with the alternator/charging circuit will cause a malfunction of the system. You need to get the system checked .hth

hi ,thanks for your help .the engine is RHY , the fuel pressure thats coming from the the rail is only from the lift pump in the tank .its going straight through the high pressure pump .i think the high pressure pump may have broken up inside and isnt creating any pressure .is that possible?.also i dont think the cam sensor would stop the main pump from working .thanks ray.

I bought the car on Saturday and it was fine but then I tried to start it yesterday morning but it wouldn't start. I called RAC He said it was the glow plugs So I got them changed today but the car still won't start. Does anyone have any ideas on where I can look next as I'm not sure where to go from here. Thank you Read more

If its a dealer they should sort it.

If it was private you are stuffed and have just found out why they sold it.

All these images are from the DailyMail of the last few days. Can anyone tell what similar in all the pics? is the Daily Mail have something against certain brands, surely there were few other models involved in accidents due to the weather.

I also learnt that there are times when switching off the Traction Control on my Subaru was a far better way to climb up a snowy hill than leaving it on.

On our 1 series the DSC has 3 settings, default is full DSC which in snow when you need a little wheelspin sometimes to keep moving is useless. The second is the "driving god" position where TC and ESP are off and its up to you, never felt the need to try it. The third is what BMW refer to in the manual as the posiion that helps get you moving in snow, a short tap on the DSC button enables it. And it actually does work but I have only used it as an aid to get moving, once on my way I return to the default position.

My daughter had an accident in her car not her fault and received a repalcement vehilcle through her insurance company, Diamond insurance. She then had an accident in that vehicle which was her fault (fell asleep at the wheel) and wrote the car off.

Now received invoice for full cost of Corsa (£6,800) from Total Accident Management via Albany car hire based on the fact that she entered into a credit hire agreement. We genuinely thought the car was on her insurance with Diamond and was not aware it was a credit hire agreement.... Read more

Not wishing to get personal how old is your daughter. £6800 total loss for a Corsa hire car appears to me to be a low figure since hire cars are generally less than 12 months old. Is it perhaps the excess because of her age or other factors.

Need advice on which of the following would be the best buy. I only drice about 5000 per year and use the car for mainly local journeys. Want to buy new as it will probably be the last car I buy, so want one that is reliable, cheap to run & cheap to maintain. looking to spend between £17-£18K. Choices will probably be either Focus 1.6 TDCi Zetec, Hyundi ix35 1.6 GDi ISG Style or Toyota Auris 1.6 V-Matic Icon.

Any advice on what you think or any other vehivle to put in the mix would be appreciated. Read more
