Ok, so my other half had an accident a couple of weeks ago - Completely not her fault - an old lady where she works reversed out of a parking space straight into the side of her car. She was stationary chatting to someone outside the car with the handbrake on at the time. Liability was accepted by the 3rd party, and she has a witness (who was also nearly knocked over in the process of the accident!).
So - She was given a hire car in the meantime whilst this "claims company" sorted out the bits and pieces.... Read more
The head gasket was changed on this car,the heater worked before it was changed.
I used 2 packs of "C-Lit" in the rad prior to the head gasket change. the system has been bled at the temp.sender unit as advised in the manual.... Read more
Just aquired the above car,I dont know the procedure for adjusting the door mirrors.
What I presume to be the adjuster knobs adjacent to the mirroors in the door panel seem intact, they rotate, and I can feel a soft click as they rotate, but the mirrors dont change position.I dont know if they are electrical or manual.... Read more
Thanks for your relply VR6---It wasn't freezing when I tried them, but I didn't know how they functioned.I will have another try using the info you have given me.They are obviously electrically powered and may have a fuse in the circuit.
Many thanks
Can I stop my car from burning off diesel after a short trip. Read more
Forgive me - Having read this thread I've got this vivid mental picture of a C8 storming down the road with a huge flame coming out of the exhaust pipe - just like when the planes launch from an aircraft carrier!
Ok - I'll get me coat!
Advice appreciated. I have a 2.0 TDCI Zetec, which is a 10 plate, thus warranty expires in May.
Past couple of months it has developed a whine when accelerating steadily, eg around 2000 revs. It will also do it when stationary and out of gear if I depress the throttle. Will do it when coasting downhill with no throttle as well, particularly if in third gear for instance and engine braking seems to be happening.... Read more
I had a similar whine and read all the forums which convinced me it was power steering related. I looked into the power steering reservoir and saw the fluid circulating into it with air bubbles entrained. This is bad news for any hydraulic system and the air entrained in the oil has to be removed which is not easy. I jacked the front of the car up and with the wheels of the ground turned the steering from lock to lock which caused the reservoir to overflow! By repeating this with the engine off it removed most of the air in the system then I ran the car as normal and the whine dissapeared. The reservoir level must never fall below min otherwise air will be entrained and the level rises to appear normal!
After a short run (under 5 miles) when switched off the car is whiring underneath,I believe this to be burning off excess fuel. Does anyone know if this is necessary , could it be disabled .this must waste quite an amount of fuel over the year. Thanks. Read more
My car insurance is due for renewal at the end of the month. My wife was caught speeding
by a camera and took up the offer of a speed awareness course (which she said was well worthwhile). I spoke to the enforcement office of the police (PSNI) and they are adamant that this is not a conviction and should not be declared to the insurance company. Some articles in the press e.g. Daily Mail's 'This is Money' would suggest otherwise. Any thoughts, advice anyone? Read more
Thanks fo your input folks.I have spoken to my insurers and they say it doesn't count.
but at least I can sleep in bed at night knowing I've done the right thing!
I have been having problems with my car heater for some time. I have tried lots of coolant and it has not worked. When I turn the car heater to the highest setting it does not work for a good 15/20 minutes (it simply blows out cold air). After around 20 minutes there is a crunching/grinding sound coming from the vents on the passenger side and the heater suddenly starts to work blowing out very hot air. This lasts for differing amounts of time and then the temperature warning light comes on. After a while the warning light goes off (the car heater is on the highest setting the whole time). This pattern is repeated over and over. I would be extremely grateful for any advice. Many thanks. Read more

Just like getting a babys wind up, only less messy.
Help???
I bought this car two months ago. Daughter was driving, Brakes seized. I towed it in, had back brakes replaced. Was fine for two days. Daughter had it again,,,,seized gain, back bearings and cables replaced. Fine again for few days. Seized. Noticed front passenger side was hot. Did some research, replaced calipers. Pads looked new, like really new as in never engaged. checked hoses seemed ok. drove ok for few days. seized!!!! Im frustrated. Pedal doesnt go to floor rather just seized too. Hard to push. No brake fulid loss. front hoses maybe? Master? I'm just a girl.....lol Read more
Could the servo be causing this?
Disconnect the vacuum hose, pump the brake pedal a few times to empty the vacuum reservoir and carefully try it again. BE WARNED YOU'LL HAVE NO ASSISTANCE FOR BRAKING AND IT WILL FEEL LIKE SOMEONE'S PUT A BRICK UNDER THE BRAKE PEDAL!

First I would read the small print to see who the contract of insurance is with, the AA or the Insurance Company.
I would think the AA. So speak to Customer Services at the AA and ask to speak to a Manager as you are not satisfied with what you have been told or the Claims Management company involved....
