vw golf 1999 1.9 sdi estate - door mirrors/adjustment - valvebounce

Just aquired the above car,I dont know the procedure for adjusting the door mirrors.

What I presume to be the adjuster knobs adjacent to the mirroors in the door panel seem intact,they rotate,and I can feel a soft click as they rotate,but the mirrors dont change position.I dont know if they are electrical or manual.

Anyone know if there is a fault? The window winders on this model are manual.

Normal operation is to rotate to L or R and then push the knob up/down and left/right like a joystick.

Are you adjusting them in when its freezing? Just a thought, but the actual mirror could be frozen up.

Thanks for your relply VR6---It wasn't freezing when I tried them,but I didn't know how they functioned.I will have another try using the info you have given me.They are obviously electrically powered and may have a fuse in the circuit.
