August 2012
I bought the vehicle from a second hand dealer with a four week warranty. Six weeks later the turbo broke and needed replacing. As the car was out of the warranty I paid for the work and the replacement of the oil/air filters. On collecting the vehicle they stated the turbo had imploded due to the oil and air filter being in a poor condition. Due to there now being a link between the damage and the garage I bought it from I contacted them. They requested a report from the garage before making any decision. The garage report stated the oil/air filters were heavily contaminated with soot. The vehicle was last serviced by Audi in October 2011. Since that date the vehicle had only covered 15k, (1k in the time I owned it).
I have since received a reply from the garage stating they won't give me a penny as I didn't inform them of the damage at the time, ( I didn't because the vehicle was out of warranty and didn't believe the damage was attrubuted to them). They also stated that the Audi garage who serviced the vehicle in October would have paid 70% towards fixing the fault, (even though the vehicle has covered 112000 miles and is 4 years old!)
I believe they should pay for the work carried out as I don't believe they checked the filters prior to the vehicle being sold, (they had bought the car the day I viewed it), and on there website they state all cars are thoroughly inspected before being advertised for sale. Should I take this further?
All replies would be gratefully received. Thank you

Hi all
Son kerbed his front nearside wheel at about 20mph on the way home from nights this morning. He thinks he briefly fell asleep at the wheel, so it could have been a lot worse because it's only the car that suffered. Alloy is knackered, tyre has a huge hole in it so they're gone and the space saver is on for now. Main problem is a severe scraping/ grinding noise as soon as the car starts moving. The wheel seems to run true when jacked up and turned by hand but obviously it becomes a very different situation when there's weight on it, and I haven't tried rocking it. Any ideas as to what issues I should be looking to expect to deal with? I've read on some forums that the wheel bearings usually take the brunt of kerbing at speed.... Read more
The metal rod could be the Drop Link.
I've been told that plastic 'rim protectors' will give excellent protection against any kerbing risks of my alloy wheels, and if I want to keep the existing look of the alloys, they can seem almost invisible. I've looked online and there seems to be a 'stick on' type and one where the tyre needs to be deflated. Has anyone tested or used these? and are they effective, or is using them only going to ruin the look? Read more
Further to this, I spoke with the chief mechanic at my local BMW services, he said that he'd never been able to sucessfully fit them without the tyre deflating (the type that fits between the tyre and rim). So I guess that answers my own question, unless someone out there knows otherwise?
Can you tell the actual date of manufacture from the VIN?
I,ve seen HJ,s chart for finding out where VW's are made but wondered if there was one for year of manufacture. Read more
Many Thanks AS.
Hello!
Just had these fitted to my 2007 A6 saloon
Philips LED Daylight 8 - Daytime Running Kit (DRL) | PowerBulbs
They turn on but are way too dim, like it has insufficient voltage going through them?...they dim as they should when your main lights come on but at that point they are dimming to such a level you can only just see them!
Check the two videos in the link, these should be burning super bright, have they been incorrectly wired?...any ideas? Read more

For the love of all that's holy, why?...
My son is trying to SORN his car which is still insured (to the end of the week) and taxed but he will cash that in. Both on-line and automated DVLA systems refuse to accept his data. All we can think is that the V5 which is only 2 years old is still the old blue type - although DVLA site says they are still valid. I have searched the Web for SORN issues and none cover the problem we have. Any ideas gratefully accepted. If all else fails we will call DVLA on Monday. A bit trying as if it takes time to resolve it will be uninsured. Read more
Thanks for the replies. I can't believe how obscure the dvla site makes this as it must be a common occurence. Been down to the post office and although the counter was closed the appropriate V14 form was on the side to pick up. Having read the form we may now simply scrap the car to a scrap dealer on the v5 and use the V14 to claim the tax and avoid sorn altogether. DVLA site could do with a flow chart to guide the options and their online should tell you why it won't accept the request. Thanks again
i'm posting this for some help for my father parking fine. any advice would be much appreciated.
He parked his vehicle in a car park where you get the 1st hour free but you do have to still obtain a ticket from the machine & display it on your dashboard. my father failed to do this as he was only popping to Wickes to grab some DIY stuff.... Read more
There is also a recent HMRC test case, which concluded that many of these 'contracts' are invalid (unless the parking company has an interest in the land).
And there is also the unfair contracts act - it might just about be fair to recoup a genuine loss from someone who parks, but a penalty is not fair....
When I reverse (auto box) up an incline I get a distinct creaking sound from the front of the car (but not always on a flat surface). I thought it might be the front disc pads binding but stabbing the brake doesn't stop the creak. Could it be the engine mounts or maybe a drive belt? The car has done 90,000 miles and has a full BMW service history. Read more
Hi guys, great looking forum. I have found several useful answers here already, but i have what seems to be a silly question as nobody else has asked it yet...
The dashboard of my Galaxy has a service counter on it, which is handy because without it i would forget it needs doing. What i would like to know, if anyone can tell me, is what interval is this counter set to? Does it count down from 5,000 miles for example, 10,000 or 20,000? I have no idea.... Read more

Gonzo thank you for the advice. I am going to take it to the ombudsmen first, see how I get on and then maybe the small claims court. Will let you know how I get on. Mr.g
