I recently returned for a long run that I have done several times. On getting home I switched off the engine and heard bubbles and saw some steam.

On checking under the bonnet all the hoses were fine but the expansion tank was blowing bubble in through the bottom hose and pushing out the coolant.... Read more

To round off this, I have received a cheque for One Hundred pounds by way of apology, with a courteous reply from the customer services director of the main dealer concerned.

You mentioned the Signum earlier. I've never understood how it got such a mediocre press, when essentially its an Insignia hatchback - which gets decent reviews. Apparently, "we" don't buy / like executive hatchbacks, so that's that. Rather an indictment of lazy (or misguided) motoring journalists IMHO.

But what are you getting with a Signum - loads of car for small money; parts a cheap as any; flexible internal space and a car which is, to my eyes, more attractive than many estates.

What sort of emission difference does an automatic UP have over the manual transmission one? I bet, it is more like a marketing strategy rather than anything worthwhile to talk about. Cannot find that information on any site thus far !!! Read more

I've had mine 2 years now (Estate) and I average 42mpg. The CO2 matters more with expensive cars as company car tax is a %......so a small % difference costs big £'s if the list price sis high.

It's been really reliable UNTIL YESTERDAY...when I went through a deep puddle and water got inside the passenger side Headlamp Controller (a headlamp used to be 2 bulbs and a spring clip in my day!). All the electrics packed in and it's costing £1500....yes £1500 to get the headlamp replaced!!!

Needless to say I shan't be choosing an E-Class when mine goes back next April!

Hey need to pick people's brains.

I currently drive a mk4 Astra estate which is starting to show its age and has out grown me. I'm 6ft 2 and have to have the seat practically all the way back to drive it. As my two daughters are now 2 and 1 the eldest has moved into a forward facing seat which means that I have her feet constantly in my back and after a recent 3 hour journey with the. Instant kicking I'm done and the car needs to go.

I don't have a huge budget in fact next to no budget but have around £2000 plus the value of px of my Astra.

What I want to know is if there is any more rear legroom in the focus compared to the Astra?

I'm only 31 and not quite ready to quit living life and buy an mpv and would much rather an estate. I've looked at the Mondeo but a nice one is slightly out of my budget and insurance is quite a bit high considering I'm already paying £128 pm for the Astra.

Not really interested in Skoda's or Volvo's but just need to keep the small feet away from my back. I love the size of the boot in the Astra and understand the focus is slightly bigger but can find any specs to compare rear legroom space. Read more

We had a similar dilema. Looked at just about every estate on the market. The Focus is certainly not the biggest but is good value. The Octavia estate was good but rear legroom was a slight issue, looked good but the seats were set very low meaning that you had to travel with your legs outstretched, not always possible with a tall driver. The boot was incredible but there was no spare at all, add a spare and raised boot floor (essential for holiday travel IMHO) and it was no better than the rest.

After much deliberation we settled on a Kia Ceed SW. Better rear legroom and a bigger boot (it even has space for a full size spare) for a car that externally is virtually the same size externally. Prices are very similar and the 1.6 diesel is a cracker. If you get a pre September 2010 car they did not have dpf's thus one thing less to go wrong. Just make sure its been serviced correctly preferably by a main dealer, the 7 year warranty is worth b***** all if its missed a service.

Hi,

I have just bought a 2000 reg 1.25 Ford Fiesta Ghia, which is the face lifted model, the key I have with it has central locking as part of the key. I have had fords in the past with solid plastic black key and a red key, but am unsure if this needs a programable key ?... Read more

Galaxy

Yes, that is correct. When the car was purchased new it would have been supplied with one remote key and another plain key. As already said, both are required if it's necessary to programme a further key without a trip to the Ford dealers.

Ford did away with the additional red keys a couple of years before your car was sold, OP....

I had a question about SORN stating an understanding that even though off road and untaxed a car still had to be insured. I can't understand why this might be, any ideas? Read more

I too have heard that it is required to have off-road insurance - to cover the risk of the vehicle causing damage to property. Some sites make it a legal requirement to have insurance - MOD, Forestry Commission, local authorities and others.
