There seems to be problems occuring on the chevrolet and vauxhall engines at about 40.000 miles, I have read several complaints on the chevrolet?vauxhall forums. The epica has now got 333500 miles on it. Time for a cam belt/tensioner change?

Any truth in this. Any comments? Read more

1.9 multijet. Had all 4 injectors removed and overhauled, tested then refited. This Fixed the misfires and erratic idle. But iv noticed that my mpg has degreased a fair bit. Geting 44mpg when normaly i used to get 50+mpg at 70mph! Some cold starts it does struggle to start and white cloud of smoke does come out of exhaust.

Any suggestions? Do you think this is something the diesel injection specialised should have picked up on during the work? He was very honest at the time so i would of thought if it was injector related it would have been noted! Or is this something a service center with diagnostic will have to look up on?... Read more

Thanks very much everyone. I expressed my concerns to the place i got it done (it was a diesel fuel injection specialis) He had a good look round done another diagnostic and checked all the injectors. In the end there was a slight leakage from the actual pipe to injector not the injector itself. He reset the ecu checked all the timming was correct and everything was running correctly.

Not sure about the contaminated fuel, I only use Shell Fuel Save or V Power Diesel...depending how deep my pockets are at the time haha...

I realise this could be simple matter of a worn clutch, but I would like some advice - my Mazda 3 1.6 petrol manual (2006 55 plate) often lurches a bit when changing gear - the biting point of the clutch is very small, hence why I thought it might be a worn clutch. The car's done about 40k, mostly out-of-town/motorway driving (relatively low mileage due to working locally for 3 years).

A pool car (same model/engine, about a year older) at work has the same problem, though much worse, but it has done well over the 100k mark (no idea whether it's had a new clutch).... Read more

Hello all. My wife had her licence revoked due to illness but this has now gone and she has re-applied for her licence; the only problem is it is taking ages and ages for them to re-issue the licence. She waited two weeks and rang but was told she was in a queue and has now waited another two weeks weeks and again when she rings, is told she is in a queue. It's begginning to take its toll so I wondered if any of you know of a way to speed the process up.

A piece of advice I got was never, ever let them revoke. Instead, if you know you are unfit to drive - volentarily surender the licence. I'm led to believe the process of getting the licence back is then a bit easier.

Make sure you photocopy the licence before handing it back too. Test pass dates and entitled groups have been known to go missing....

The DVLA want to update their database with new versions of my and my wife's driving licence photo. That'll be £40 thank you.

Quite a good little earner for them. Read more

Mercedes 220CDI - Synergy Manchester - hoveguy

Hello, A WARNING to anyone who deals with Synergy Manchester the site is a scam. I lost £1975 last week. I was promised a car lease deal with a Mercedes C Class 220CDi. I transferred the money to Synergy as I had been dealing with a guy called James Morgan. I received an official order form and I now find the company is in Liquidation. According to Insolvency this company is not in Liquidation, it is run by a guy called ABDUAL QUDDAS and he has not made himself bankrupt it is all a SCAM. Insolvency say they cannot do anything. I have told Consumer Direct, they weren't particularly helpful. You cannot speak to Trading Standards as you have to go through Consumer Direct. Insolvency know all about this guy a number of people have got caught out like me, but nothing seems to be done. He will no doubt set up another professional looking website and start again. I have filled in an actioncrime report but have heard nothing. POSTED ON ANOTHER PART OF MOTORING DISCUSSION SORRY

Hello,

can anyone advise which would be the best of a bad bunch of the car warranties to go for. Ive looked at warranty direct and works warranty also looked at BMW warranty which is expensive ut they do cover alot. Warranty direct cover wear and tear but some of the reviews are less then complimentry. I know people say all warranties are a waste of money better off saving a few quid every month. But if someone had to recommend one which one would it be. Or have you got a warranty company at the moment they you use and would like to recommend... Read more

Hi, My parents-in-law bought a Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CTDi SE two months ago from our local Vauxhall franchise dealer. The car was registered in July 2011 (11 plate) and had a number of options added (incl 18" alloys, front and rear parking sensors, fog lights, part leather seats etc - still trying to confirm the full list). They were told that it was the car that the MD had been using and that they were being offered it at an "exceptional price" of just short of £20k (£5k deposit, £15k on finance with GMAC). It had done about 9k miles. Two weeks ago my father-in-law passed away unexpectedly. My mother-in-law will never use the car, it's simply too big. We therefore began looking at selling it to pay off the finance, and here is where we've had a bit of a shock. Having checked a number of valuation sites, including this one, it seems that in the two months since the car was purchased, it has dropped in value to the tune of £6-8k, meaning that there doesn't seem to be enough value in the car now to even pay off the finance. We contacted the dealer who told us that they couldn't possibly buy the car back, even at just the price of the finance, because in the last two months the bottom has fallen out of the second hand car market and they have a glut of Insignias that they're having great difficulty shifting. So, would anyone be kind enough to help us with the following questions: 1. Was that a fair price at the time for the car? 2. Is the dealer telling the truth about the bottom falling out of the second hand car market in the last couple of months? 3. Is there anything that we can do other than pay off the finance and then sell the car privately to try to get the most we can for it? We're not expecting special treatment because of Dad and realise that the dealer has no obligation to re-buy the car. At the end of the day, if the car has lost a shed load of value in the last two months, then we'll just have to accept that (and probably steer clear of Vauxhalls in future). Many thanks in advance for any assistance. Phil Read more

Hi Shooi,

  1. £20k sounds a bit over the top but was there a PX involved? In which case the PX price may have been OTT as well. At the end of the day, it's somewhat irrelavent now
  2. The bottom hasn't fallen out of the second hand market - the dealer is simply trying to justify why he won't buy the car back at a price you want
  3. This is your best bet

Sorry for your loss
