Can anyone help with my problem please? Ive had a problem with the turbo on my golf tdi 150 for a few months. When the cars first started the turbo wont kick in properly under 2000 revs and when its warmed up its fine. Also a couple of times while picking up speed the engine management has tripped the turbo off with nothing coming up on the dash but alls fine when the engine is turned off then started as usual. Now after a cambelt change two days later the turbos off permanently but just drives like a normal diesel. Yet again nothing up on the dashboard and no more smoke than usual. On tha fault machine it mentions the boost control and gives a fault code of p1556. Does anyone know what the problem is and what the code means. Any help will be much appreciated. Read more
I read a lot of reviews online and loads of people talk a lot about HGV training companies.
So i wanted to share my experience and let people ask me questions if they have any.... Read more
I agree. I did a 5 day and did pass first time, but I've heard the pass rates on these aren't great anyway.
I found them really helpful and nice too!
I have a ford escort van 1.8 diesel in the last week it has started acting up if you let it idle for a while the engine will start running rough then stall it sounds like there is a noise coming from the clutch housing, sometimes there is no accelleration foot on the floor in first gear doing 5 mph then all of a sudden it kicks in and your off like a rocket, when it stalls it starts again and it runs ok for a while,I had the filter housing changed last year as it had a leak and had a new tank fitted as the old one had rust holes in it,so I am not sure what to do,I tried taking it for a run on the motorway thinking it had some kind of blockage and it seemed to work but now its doing its thing again.so not sure where to start Read more
Ah! No power! Suddenly clicked on! Thought it was Italian for something! The old Escort didn't have any of the fancy electronics that you find in today's diesels, so faulting it is a matter of going through anything that hasn't been done recently and changing anything that's due for changing, such as fuel and air filters and checking for water in the fuel or dirty diesel. If the filters are clean, then try some magic potion additive in the fuel tank to clean the injectors. After that, you're into removing the injectors and fettling them. Nobody has stuck anything up your exhaust pipe as a joke have they? That's always a good one!
I agree with Avant. Don't use Microsoft IE, use Firefox. I've gone one better.. I don't use Microsoft at all, I use Ubuntu Linux.
I recently bought a NIssan, in the short time I've had the car I have leant a lot about nissan dealers and the extras they tout, I can also see why they score poorly as compared to the likes of Honda Dealers etc.
Under no circumstance take out a Nissan dealer's Gap insurance, Gap insurance is imho a good thing to have, for those that don't know it effectively covers the short-fall between what your insurer pays out and the purchase price of your car, in the event of a total loss claim, normally covering up to 3 years. The dealer's gap insurance is essentially a cash cow, comission is what it's all about and then when you read the small print and start to ask questions, even more alarming concerns evolve. e.g can you spend your money anywhere and what is the actual maximum payable etc, etc, etc, If and when you do sign up to a dealer's gap insurance those bold claims of being able to terminate, as you are legally entitled to do so within 14 days, seems to fall on deaf ears, strange that . If anyone does think Gap insurance is a good idea, look elsewhere it is much cheaper and far more transparent elsewhere, it probably only involves just one company as well, and not the salesman, credit company and insurers. A Nissan dealer quoted just under £300 for 3 years, can anyone please tell me if that's a fair price, lol ;-).... Read more
I can imagine that Vauxhall dealers do very well with these 'extras': private punters buying Vauxhalls are pretty gullible in the first place.
Any lexus owners, are they expensive on parts and servicing? just had this recommended lexus come in that he says is nice,Lexus SE AUTO 2.0 2 litre, part leather, full service history, mot 05/2013, 64000 miles, but they want around £3400 for it, it's a 2002 reg. Read more

Personally; i'd rather take the accord (in executive trim)
Due to not able to use right leg to operate rear brake I have adapted my motorcycles to use a thumb brake. Usually use a front brake master cyliner turned around on the left handlebar with some modifications to the mounting and lever.
Thinking of purchasing a new motorcycle that has got ABS fitted. Not sure if I can use a standard master cylinder, will this operate the ABS satisfactorly.... Read more
I have just been told by a Technical expert who works for KTM that the Bosch ABS pump fitted on their ABS units is homologated to the bike and you cannot change the master cylinder.
Seem to go against advice here. Looking at a KTM Duke 690 but need to get the brakes sorted out first....
Help. My 07 Astra has recently started emitting smoke from the exhaust, especially when accelerating from low revs, and now just noticed the engine warning light has come on. It has done 92k trouble free miles, has been recently serviced. Was wondering if to much oil added during last service. Any advise appreciated. Read more
When the engine management light comes on, you must read the fault code! If it's smoking, it may just be the EGR valve stuck open, but then again, it may be something really serious!

Hello.
I bought a car on the 18th May 2012. I saw the ad on ebay. It was listed saying there was a fault with the airbag as the airbag light was present on the dashboard. Because of this, the price was reduced. it stated in the ad that because of this no warranty is given or implied and priced to clear.... Read more
The problem arises when you are dealing with cars that are sold at a fraction of the original price and so the definition of "fit for purpose" becomes subjective. SOGA can provide buyers with a misplaced sense of security because they think it is a warranty against defects. The same goes for aftermarket warranties. They won't pay for the replacement of worn out parts, only ones that are deemed to have failed prematurely. But every so often, a question crops up on here regarding warranties because someone thinks they can run a 10 year old beemer for pocket money and the warranty company will cover any problems.

For future ref - As well as the common failure of the flexible vacuum pipes (as per this fault) it is also worth checking the ridgid plastic pipes (pleanty of these crossing the bulkhead) as if these rub/vibrate against anything they eventually wear through. I had this happen on my Skoda Superb producing similar symptoms. Yet again the ridgid pipe was cut short and the flexible pipe re-attached. The other thing that can fail are the vacuum solenoids (1 for EGR, 1 for Turbo vanes and 1 for aniti shudder) .
