FIAT Grande Punto - Over fueling - Jake59

1.9 multijet. Had all 4 injectors removed and overhauled, tested then refited. This Fixed the misfires and erratic idle. But iv noticed that my mpg has degreased a fair bit. Geting 44mpg when normaly i used to get 50+mpg at 70mph! Some cold starts it does struggle to start and white cloud of smoke does come out of exhaust.

Any suggestions? Do you think this is something the diesel injection specialised should have picked up on during the work? He was very honest at the time so i would of thought if it was injector related it would have been noted! Or is this something a service center with diagnostic will have to look up on?

white smoke generally unburn fuel, certainly points towards the injectors.

might be worth getting diagnostic check, might be some fault codes stored.

Bit of a tangent if struggles to start could it be battery or is turning over quickly but not catching ?

White smoke, poor mileage and hard starting could be indicative of retarded injection timing, assuming the injectors themselves are ok.

Thanks very much everyone. I expressed my concerns to the place i got it done (it was a diesel fuel injection specialis) He had a good look round done another diagnostic and checked all the injectors. In the end there was a slight leakage from the actual pipe to injector not the injector itself. He reset the ecu checked all the timming was correct and everything was running correctly.

Not sure about the contaminated fuel, I only use Shell Fuel Save or V Power Diesel...depending how deep my pockets are at the time haha

All is good and it it doing around 50mpg now :)
