I test drove a 2.2 diesel (200PS) S-Max today. 6 months old, 2000 miles. At the end of a 10 minute drive the fan stayed on for at least 5 minutes and there was an "enginey" smell. The salesman assured me the fan staying on was normal and the smell was due to the way the engine had been cleaned. Does anyone have any views as to whether I should be concerned please? Read more
will carry 3 kids in the back and give me some driving interest -
Focus. Unless you're breeding monsters, you don't need an ix35, or a S-Max to fit 3 kids in the back....
Hi, my mondeo is just over 6 years old so when the AA man pronounced the battery dead after a call out for a non start I was not surprised. However, about a month later the new battery is flat and the car won't start. If I charge the battery up it seems ok, but does not really seem to charge properly from the engine. When I check it the battery with a meter it is about 12.6V. Once the car is started it takes about 13 seconds for the terminal voltage to rise to 14V. Is this normal? I would expect the alternator to put out 14V immediately the engine is running. Is this a symptom of a faulty alternator? Read more
I read on t'Internet that some battery manufactures claim that their batteries, whilst not Silver Calcium, will take the extra voltage of a Smartcharge system and work in Ford cars. A friend of mine had the old, failing, Silver Calcium battery in her Focus replaced with a cheaper, standard battery - which the Smartcharge system destroyed in just a few weeks.
hi i need to change the glow plugs i think on my c3 its really difficult to start recently and gives out white/grey diesel smeeling smoke on starting. they are at the back of the engine block do i need to take anything major off the top of the engine other than the air filter assembly?

I'll be honest,never done one in a Citrroen,plenty of Peug's though.
so advice is based on these, your right they're at the back of the head, obscured by the egr pipe system.not really that hard to remove, then you can see the g/plugs,12mm hex heads with the wire fastened with 8mm nuts....
Hey guys,
I'm buying an car from main dealer, that was their ex-demo car.... Read more

Ford Mondeo built in satnav on the 08 plate satnav can't find any GPS signals and thinks it in another part of the country. Is there an easy fix for this or needs to be fixed by a computor wizard. Read more
I think you will find that the roof aerial is a dual band antenna. It serves both the radio and sat nav.Take a close look at the aerial base and mast and they are different in appearance to a car that has no nav system. There are 2 co-axial wires that run from the base mount inside the roof the the rear of radio.hth
I've got a 51 plate 1.2 8v petrol punto with 50k on the clock. The power steering light appeared while driving so I swapped the power steering motor with one from a scrap yard and fully charged the battery (which is around 2 years old). I then drove the car 4 or 5 times and it was working fine.
When I turned the key this morning the light is back on and the steering is heavy. Any ideas what else I can try?? The battery is a Yuasa and is only 2 years old so I don;t think that's faulty. I've checked all the fuses that are mentioned in the Haynes PAS wiring diagram and they seem fine too. I've got an OBDII connector but can't find the socket to read the codes, any ideas?? Read more
I've swapped the steering motor again with the scrap yard and it seems to be working fine. Fingers Crossed
Am reluctant to buy one of these, as not an MPV fan, it looks a bit dated to me (despite the remodel), have been around ages, and there's a new model coming out in 2014 and real mpgs seem far away from official figures...but what's the alternative? Like a bit of acceleration, pref diesel, manual gearbox and def need room for 3 car seats across the back. And would prefer good mpg. Where is the car that meets these needs ?! I'd welcome views/experiences. Read more
The 5008 is an awful beast, used one with an auto box for a week and couldn't wait to give it back. It rode like a jelly steering was point and guess and the auto box made it drive as if on a roller coaster.
Have driven the S- Max 2.2 manual a few times and it is 100% better than the 5008. Drives like a car with road holding and ride to match. If they did a conventional torque converter auto then I would buy one tomorrow, that's the only reason for not buying one.
Hi,
Would anyone be good enough to advise on this oil leak,
which has just appeared a few days ago?
I'm guessing it's the camshaft seal leaking?
There's only a few drops at the moment,
but I am a bit concerned about whether the seal (if it is that)
has a tendency to pop out & take the oil with it.... Read more
ps just to add,
the head gasket wasn't replaced on this car.
It was another one , which unfortunatley is no longer of this mortal coil. :o)

I find reversing even a tiny van to be embarressingly difficult. Looking over your left shoulder to see a sheet of plywood 6" behind your head makes it difficult to gauge the orientation of the vehicle.
