Hi,

A warning light is permanently on on my dashboard. It's in yellow and it's a little picture of a car with a spanner. It is on due to an ECU fault and all the car's systems work fine.... Read more

Try googling (other web search engines may be available) new MOT requirements or something similar.

It would appear you're in the clear, however if it's indicating an engine management problem your emissions may be outside limits.

I have an unresolved electrical problem with my '53 Mondeo TDCi 130 Estate 120k miles. After about 1 hrs night driving the Sony CD panel starts to flickering slightly. With time this increases in intensity over the next 20mins or so until they are almost flashing on-off. (very distracting when night driving) I have done some investigating (fiddling!) and found if I use main beam or put heated front or rear screen on it reduces and almost stops the flickering. If I put on all three then it stops. If I turn stuff off then it gets worse and I think it then also shows up slightly in the dash illumination but very slightly. Dash lights dimmer position does not seem to affect the flashing - not sure as it just makes the problem more or less obvious. Seems like an electrical load problem? This has been happening since I bought the car about 3 1/2 years ago and still does it after having replaced the alternator after it failed recently but, was hoping, it has not change the flickering problem. Is there a regulator for the radio/Sony and or dash illuminations? Usual solution is to turn it off. Help! Read more

Alternator failure on most Fords is a fairly common issue. However many of the aftermarket recon units do not perform to scratch. Is yours a genuine Ford replacement unit ?There is no voltage regulator in the dash pod or radio circuit, but you can expect voltages up to 16 volts in the electrical system as this has smart charge control..Remember also that is is important to have a calcium battery fitted.hth

Hello all. I recently received a "flyer" from the DOT suggesting ways to save fuel.

Apart from the usual hints, tyre press etc, it said that coasting up to an obvious stop situation, used more fuel than removing your right clog off the pedal and staying in gear!! Now, forgetting the safety aspect, if there is one, coasting up to a stop, be it a red light, junction, crossing atc, my revs obviously drop to tick-over ie app. 900rpm... Read more

Hi wonder if anyone could give me some advise? I bought a Renault Grand Scenic Oasis 1.5 dci at the end of January within 30 days I was on the phone to garage I got it from with probloms of a loss of power. I had a new EGR fitted but no change so took it back to where I bought it from, he said he'd sort it and picked it up over a week later to be told a new MAF sensor had been fitte and put a warranty on it. Well low and behold 2 weeks later exactly the same took it to a garage I trust MAF wasn't changed at all, so new MAF sensor fitted covered by warranty he supplied but no change, been on diognostics, turbo tested and nothing!! EGR all blocked up again within a month! So anyone any idea??? I'm totally at my witts end ment to be going on holiday for Easter looks like I'll be going no where! And could anyone advise me where I stand with the Garage I bought it from?? Read more

I just hope your grand scenic has been sorted this time, I myself is an owner of grand scenic 1.5 dci 05 5 speed version. I used to have this problem of power loss, 53000 miles when I bought it and I am the 3rd owner. Given the 30 days warranty, fortunate enough this problem had occurred within 30 days and the garage sorted it out with no hassle,it was found out to be a sticking egr valve. Now I have covered 30 thousand miles and so far so good, the car is the best diesel engine I have ever owned despite of it being a seven seater and only 1.5, It is never underpowered on city or motorway. It can cruise to 95mph with passengers easy and 670miles to a tank is not bad i think..Just do the engine a favor and use the best fully synthetic oil you can afford, I do 6k oil change interval and has had done 4 oil changes in 30k miles use. Renault diesel engine to me is excellent(of course if you treat it right)just makes me laugh to see a tiny golf with 2.0 tdi. Go renault!

Hi

I recently took my car for mot and failed on the imbalance on driver side 32% so we bled the brakes and returned to find it failed again at 30% this time checked caliper to find it had seized, so replaced the caliper bled the brakes and took it for retest to find that it was now at 40% so very confused at the moment.

Caliper was second hand and my mechanic didnot change the pads or disks on either side.

Planning on changing disks and pads on front changing flexi pipe and draining whole system and putting fresh brake fluid in ? Any suggestions from anyone else as to what the problem could be ?

Your help will be very much appreciated Read more

If you rub down the surface sufficiently to take the gloss off the top coat should stick OK.

You must be more sensitive than me, but then I like the smell of petrol!

It should be borne in mind that looks can be deceptive. The visible smoke from an old diesel is comprised of relatively few big soot particles that fall out of the atmosphere in minutes. But the new diesels emit large numbers of small partciles that linger in the atmosphere for a week or more. that's why I think they got it wrong.

Oooo! And we used to complain about Japanese cars! I was just going to say that I wouldn't buy French (I don't even buy French wine) but then I started dreaming about the old Citroen Mehari jeep. I always wanted one. Anyway, the Megane is French, so you've got to take the wheels off to change the headlamp bulbs... You've probably Googled it yourself by now..
