It's sad to wake up to hear abbout this crash, with so many casualties. So far, it appears rain and fog were possible contributing factors. I noticed it happened just after a slip road.

Thoughts go out to those involved. Read more

Indeed, Pat - and we all need to remember that the vast majority of HGV drivers know their vehicle's limitations and don't tend to drive too close to the vehicle in front, as too many car drivers do. They also don't usually jam on their brakes suddenly and excessively.

Tailgating and sudden braking are responsible for far more accidents than speed in itself, which is why, tragic though it is, this accident shouldn't trigger debates about whether it's right to raise the 70 mph speed limit.

I am hoping to have an old 1996 Fiesta passed on soon, the mechanicals are still fine as it has been looked after but the rear arches and sills are starting to let go a bit.

I would like to spend a little (£300?) getting this sorted out so I can get a few years cheap motoring out of the car as I know its history compared to some old grotbox off eBay.... Read more

I had one as my first car too, so it will be kind of nice to own one again :-D

It's the 1.8 diesel but I've always found it fairly good for what it is despite what you read online....

Walking to the paper shop this morning I saw an AA van by a Corolla - not a common sight, Toyotas being generally reliable. It seems the lady driving it had just borrowed it and succeeded in filling this petrol car with diesel.

The AA guy who was pumping the fuel out said she'd managed to get the large diesel nozzle far enough in to fill without spilling, quite an achievement, probably not appreciated by whoever she'd borrowed it from.... Read more

When I was 16 I filled my Yamaha DT50 with diesel. It smoked and smelt like a BBQ. I tipped it upside down in a field and refueled.

When the engine seized up due to a non-OEM exhaust being too lean, there was still a fair amount of carbon on the head, though it had been running well enough.

Hi,

I'm in the middle of a dispute with a garage that undertook work to my gearbox last October, as part of an extended warranty scheme. The work done was an overhaul of the box, as the 2nd and 6th gear teeth had broken and caused debris in the box.... Read more

Am trying to find out if it is legal to receive and sign finance documents for a new car ordered over the internet on PCP?

I have heard you must sign any finance documents when buying a new car on PCP on licensed premises, is this true?... Read more

Bet the dealers don't like it cos at home you've got a 5 day cooling off period if you change yer mind. Basically you can change your mind and not be liable for anything

At the dealers premise no such protection.

I have a 2008 Mondeo Estate, and have started getting water ingress in the front footwells. As best I can work out the water is coming from the forward door frames.

I have seen advice about blocked pollen filter, but they have now moved the pollen filter away from the area in front of the windscreen.... Read more

Bought a new Mazda in Sept 2008. Been serviced locally not with a Mazda Dealer. In May this year the car developed a grinding noise on full left lock. Took it to Mazda garage. They did experience the noise in the workshop but could not replicate the noise. They suggested it could be related to the tyres. The garage floor was tiled and therefore slippery.Approximately a week before the warranty expired the noise got worse. Took the car to a Tyre Centre who informed me that the noise was not related to the tyres at all.Took the car back to the Mazda Dealer about 2 weeks after warranty expires and was told that the car needed a new steering rack., and that it was not covered by the guarantee and that they will not help in any way . Tha part itslf costs £1500.00 plus Vat Anyone experienced this problem before when the car had only done 58.000 miles. Any views on my legal position. Thanks. Read more

I would be grateful for any advice or suggestions on the following
problem:
Recently going down a long hill and going up a slight rise to a
roundabout, when I went to change down the engine cut out. The engine
started again no problem and off I went, However, since then, after this
the same thing happens at the exact same spot,. After starting it again
using a little throttle, the engine felt very gutless and weak going
along the next road followed by another long hill where it struggled for power
even downhill; whenever the revs fell the engine 'throbbed' and
struggled.
At the bottom of another hill I floored the clutch at a
junction, the car cut out again, and it was reluctant to start this
time. Finally got it going again, opened the throttle and got it to about
4k revs, anything less than this and the engine throbbed and cut out
again. After starting it again It then settled down and it ran fine the
rest of the way home, it has since done in this on 5 other separate
occasions, all at the bottom of longish hills.
The car runs *perfectly* the rest of the time, it's a 16 mile journey to work, it's fine on the way there, but on the hill on the way back it does it at the bottom of this particular dual carriageway 50mpg limit hill without fail usually

So far fitted new throttle body, new plugs and leads and a coil pack .Thanks Read more

do you know if yours has vacum pipe going to ECU from manifold, if it does its worth removing the pipe and cleaning out, I suspect the ecu vacum diaphram is filled with oil. It does help if you can remove ecu and drain ( best as possible) and reasemble pipes. I suspect its clogged with oil and the high vacum when descending down a hill is effecting the ecu and the oil is suppressing the reation of the diaphram.

Dont poke anything in the vacum pipe of the ecu, all you can do is tip it up for 24hrs !
