My 52 reg Vauxhall Vectra Elegance 2.2L petrol 70,000 miles developed severe vibration after being left with a meet and great company at Gatwick. Both my local garage and the nearest Vauxhall Dealers agree there is a problem but cannot trace the cause. The computer does not indicate any problem. Vauxhall Dealers suggested trouble in gearbox or differential but a specialist gearbox company says it is not. The vibration is definitely in the engine area and linked to engine revs but much worse under load/acceleration. It almost disappears when cruising at a steady speed.
In view of age and value the Vauxhall dealers do not wish to pursue the matter but the cheaper local garage is keen to follow up any sensible suggestion. They say problem like with a dual-mass flywheel but believe this not fitted to my car. New plugs and coil have been tried and engine mounts appear intact.... Read more

My corallo was handling like a dog in last years snow, as as tyres were around 4mm went for a set of Uniroyal rain expert..which improved hadndling a lot.
With 12k on them , and with fronts most worn on my Front WD diesel, was considering putting 2 vredesteine quatrac 3's on the front..with a view to going to all 4 eventually. Finances a bit tight, as is storage space so winter tyres not an option. I plan to keep the car another 2 years..I know it is not good to mix winter and summer tyres, but would mixing all weathers with regulars be a safety issue..I hope it would provide some improvement over the coming months should the weather turn yukky again..thoughts ?? Similar only , but not the same - obviously that general tread pattern shape is a succesfull one. Rain Expert scores higher - but bear in mind you need a decent pool of voters before the raings are more realistic. Also Tyre A maybe better than tyre B on one car, but not on another.
We use Kleber Quadraxers on both of our cars during the winter months. They are a good tyre and are quieter on both cars than their summer equivalents. Grip in the snow is much better than a summer tyre but in all other conditions they don't feel any different in normal driving to the summer tyres. They have the "3 peak and snow flake symbol" which means they are approved for use in regions of the world where winter tyres are required by law....
My wife’s BMW X3 (2.0D) has suddenly lost 4 wheel drive and now uses only 2 wheel drive. At the same time a number of warning lights came up (ABS Warning, Brake System Alert, Warning Light and 4 wheel drive light). It’s a 56 plate with 75k miles. Read more
cheers - funny enough the car had 4 new tyres put on it about 4 weeks before thsi problem occured.
I'm looking at buying a Saab 9-3 diesel convertible. The reasons are that I'd like an open top car that fits two adults and two teenage children and costs about £12000 for something 3 to 4 years old. I've looked at quite a few cars and I like the Saab's old fasioned ness. I do about 15,000 miles per year including a 25 mile rural A road commute so a diesel looks like it fits the bill (and hopefully I'll be OK with the DPF too). I have a question that my Google skills have failed to answer:
Does anybody know when the emissions changed for the 1.9 diesel engine in 2008 in Saabs? Early 2008 ones seem to have a co2 output of 169g whereas later ones seem to be down to 145. I know it's only £60 a year but I'm just curious. Read more
Thanks for the answers. I'm sure that the scuttle shake won't be an issue - the last convertible I had was a Triumph Herald!
The TTiD does look like the ultimate option but there aren't many about. The 'standard' single turbo engine changed some time during 2008 and I can't find when. I think that the 'lower co2' cars apply to registration date....
My husband is self employed. He was involved in a collision with a Honda Civic which wrote our van off. Husband was pulling out of a side road into a main road (to turn right) when the Honda was proceeding from the left (an open and shut case - my husband to blame 100%?). My husband did check the junction before pulling out, parked cars on his right, didnt see this car. My husband injured in accident.
Third party did not (and has never) reported this accident to his insurers. I have reported this to his insurers because we are counterclaiming. My husband devastated that 1) we are only third party, fire and theft cover so therefore van is gone and we need to buy a new one for our business to survive; 2) he couldnt understand why he didnt see the driver and why the driver did not see a great big Merc Benz Sprinter coming out!... Honda driver may have invalidated his comp insurance but the thrird party claim for wrecking a mereced van would still be valid. He may have invalidated the cover on HIS vehicle but 3rd parties should still be OK.
I was unfortunate on the w/e to be driving on the motorway and the waterhose came off and the engine was damaged beyond repair. I have only had the car for 4 months and it was running perfectly, no waring beforehand and it was all over within minutes. I am in the process of having another engine put in but I have been reading about air-con noises and consequential engine problems. When i switch off my air-con it gurgles for a while? Is that anything I should be worried about? Could it have led to this problem? Please help as I am facing a very large bill and don't want another large bill Read more

She is firmly in control and the garage cannot change the number without her signing the form. Would be worht checking the reg no on the tax disc in the car.
She needs to be careful as the car will still be registered with DVLA on the private plate and she won't know if the car the new plate belongs to is taxed/insured . . .
With ANPR around she needs to be wary of driving with the "new" number on the car until she knows.
Ford offer a free check for new cars at 500 miles or three months. I was just wondering if this is worth bothering with. It is a general check over which takes 15 minutes. I am sceptical and think that it won't be very thorough and doubt they will report anything amiss anyway. Read more
If it's free, you've nothing to lose.
Depends upon how strong your will power is....
My voyager is making a whining sound and not changing into 3rd gear. Then it will jump out of gear when standing still and jump into gear when reved. Only when this noise appears does it have this problem.
Fluid has been checked whilst running and is topped up. I have been told by an auto gearbox garage that it could cost up to £1400. This noise and problem has only started since a garage put a new belt on. Could the tension be causing the problem. Im taking it back to the garage today but dont hold out much hope with him as he's not chrysler mechanic. Any advice appreciated Read more
Take it back to the garage

sounds like a dual mass flywheel fault.Press clutch pedal does the noise change?
