Hi, I have a Berlingo with a DW8 1.9 diesel engine, 72000miles, 01 reg. History: Cam belt came off due to idler gear failure, camshaft broke in three places. Up to this event it was running perfectly but with a strange 'humming' noise (obviously the idler on the way out). Sourced a complete engine from a 01 206 accident damaged, breakers promised the engine ran fine!(did I see tears in his eyes?) Installed, fault: Idles perfectly for exactly 3 seconds, then goes all lumpy, with excessive smoke and 'bag of nails' noise, sounds like it is misfiring badly and refuses to rev much(you wouldnt want to with the noise its making anyway). So far I have replaced all the sensors from the failed engine, the wiring harness complete, all the injection system (injection pump, injectors one at a time) and substitued an ECU from an 01 Peugeot partner DW8. No change!
Going onto diagnostics, I am about to borrow a compression tester, so hopefully it will not show up one cylinder down, (if it does then its out with the engine and swap just the head?), but it would be handy to access the fault diagnostics, its apparantly not campatible with the European OBD2 system, does any one know what it is, is it possible to purchase a software package for connecting to a computer? Its not possible to take this vehicle to a citroen dealer, its on a farm in rural Herefordshire many miles from the nearest (nice place to work though!), I understand that the advance/retard solenoid (situated underneath the injection pump) gets a digital signal from the ECU, anyone scoped this, do you know the nature of the signal? Anyone able to direct me to a site where I can download the engine electrics/electronics? I'm a retired aircraft electronic technician, so have no problem with interpreting the information, just need the information! Thankyou Read more
Peugeot state that the AT fluid is not a service item and never needs to be changed. Ok, Peugeot know more about cars than me but to my mind this is a risk given the price of a replacement gearbox. I know you afvocate changing the engine oil more frequently than manufacturers recommend but what are you views on AT fluid changes?
My car is a 2008 model and has covered 22k miles. What would you suggest would be a suitable mileage to change the fluid?... Read more
I note the comment of clarkii on 2 June 2011. I also have a Honda CRV, bought in December 2010. I have experienced a similar creaking noise, in the B Pillar on the drivers side, when the car gets hot in summer months. It has been into the Dealer 3 times and the problem is not solved. (They have located the noise with a sonic device to the B Pillar). This is after advice from Honda UK. I am now being advised by Honda UK to have the spot welds re-welded and repainted. I do not believe the car is 'fit for purpose' and am looking for a replacment. Any views would be appreciated. Read more
Hi,
My partner has just bought a 2002 Citroen C5 estate and we have an annoying niggle with both of the front windows - the 'auto mode' is far too sensitive, it kicks in (up or down) just about as soon as you touch the switches so it's a right caper playing with the switch getting them to open part way!... ABD Calls For Slow Driver Legislation
People who drive too slowly should be forced off the road, according to the Association of British Drivers (ABD).
The lobby group is calling for the introduction of laws to make slow-moving vehicles pull in and allow faster vehicles to pass – in an attempt to make the roads safer.
It made the comments after comparison website confused.com published research that revealed 60% of motorists get stressed and irritated by slow drivers.
The ABD is not, however, supporting proposals by the comparison website for minimum speed limits enforced by cameras.
‘If everybody drove at the speed a reasonable person would expect to travel, the roads would be much safer, less stressful places for all,’ said ABD chairman Brian Gregory.
‘Unfortunately there will always be those who wish to travel either dangerously fast or far too slow – causing congestion and prompting rash behaviour. Read more
Porsche are not a valid example, they charge you more for putting less stuff on your car. To the point where someone with no Porsche at all gets charged several million probably.
Bulbous dash is a styling issue, you like it or you dont. Personally i like a car full of buttons, lots of stuff to push although i do appreciate the BMW way of doing it which is one control and one screen to do everything....
Well, sort of.

I watched this on BBC Look East and it was accompanied by a clip supposedly filmed today of a group of young children maybe around 6 or 7 all running under the barrier just as it comes down to all sprint across. Add that to the clips we've all seen of mothers running across with their prams and the guy who vaulted the barrier and lost his shoe etc... Read more
BTW there's a turquoise blue metallic one with private plate in east Suffolk.
Was driving home when car began to judder to a stop, & cut out. Have had the Cam & crank sensors changed & a new fuel filter. There is pressure at the injectors but they are not opening. Diaginostics coming up with no error codes, car will start with easy start, but wont run for long - any suggestions would be gd Read more
I have just taken my Alfa in for a body repair after having a side impact to front right wing and tyre. Should they have offered me a steering geometry check as standard to look for any under lying suspension problems? I was told this could not be done as the front tyre had worn too much on inside.
