Car Discs - Alloy Discs - gordonbennet

"Alloy brake discs - is this a wind up !"

Probably some fancy wheel discs instead of plastic wheel trims - I bet they spin as well!

Car Discs - Alloy Discs - Dynamic Dave

Looking at the website, he's referring to alloy wheels.

Virtually all brake discs are alloy, namely steel.

You may have seen the website, DD, but we're not having it on here.

Sorry, WSP, but our advertisers pay for their adverts on here and we can't allow free publicity.

I am amazed at the number of people who confuse Alloy with Aluminium of a course an Alloy could have aluminium in it but then again it couldn't

Car Discs - Alloy Discs - jamie745

Im going to send out a public information leaflet informing people who pay for big 19 inch alloy wheels etc that steel (ie bog standard wheels) is indeed an alloy in itself.

Marketing ploy playing on ignorance if you ever saw one.

Oh, come off it. Metals are virtually always used in alloys. The term 'alloy' in this case denotes an aluminium based alloy as opposed to a ferrous one. That is perfectly sensible.

The mistake is to think that 'alloy' is necessarily a positive attribute.

Boudicca curru spectat: "Alloys?" inquit. "Immo, anaea". Boudicca: "Dulcis!".

Car Discs - Alloy Discs - Avant

Physicists' Latin is obviously more advanced than the classical stuff I last studied in 1969! 'Anaea' defeats me - what were the chariot wheels made of?

Car Discs - Alloy Discs - Bobbin Threadbare

Bronze!

Car Discs - Alloy Discs - jamie745

Oh right so swearing isnt allowed but a defunct useless language is perfectly acceptable?!

Car Discs - Alloy Discs - unthrottled

You could swear in latin?

Car Discs - Alloy Discs - Bobbin Threadbare

Ummmm........infernum lacus!

Car Discs - Alloy Discs - Avant

(Resorts to Latin dictionary....) Ah - Aenea! (from the noun aes). Got it!

All I could find under 'anaea' in Google was anaea troglodytica - a type of butterfly. Possibly also a troglodyte who talks out of his bottom.....

"You could swear in Latin?"

Oh yes indeed.

"Lars Porsena of Clusium, by the Nine Gods he swore

That the great house of Tarquin should suffer wrong no more."

Avant's animated this evening. Poetry, A Great Leap Forward on the Swearing Purge...

...One can only speculate on the cause of this feverish activity. Have you found a Jaffa Cakes type Ad Valorem loophole?

Nothing offensive there, Old Roverboy - I've got a sense of humour like the rest of you! We edit and delete posts only if absolutely necessary.

But seeing as this thread started with an attempt at a free advert, I think it's gone far enough. If anyone seriously feels that swearing is justified on a forum like this, by all means write to us at moderators@honestjohn.co.uk
