Twice after service my 08 C Class gearbox has had changed characteristics: changing up later and down earlier with an increase in diesel consumption. Car also seems noisier – but this could be due to higher revs.

At first service it was returned to main dealer garage and fixed by "adjusting electronic settings". Second annual service at main dealer caused no problems. After recent third service a similar situation was created but when returned to M-B specialist who carried out this service they could identify no problems on their M-B diagnostic machine.... I'd have to guess (and this is definately a guess) software update:

1st Service applies update which changes 'box parameters. You don't like it and dealership resets the settings back to where they were (possibly even reverts to previous software??)....

In order to settle a discusion, a friend of mine decided to 'motor' the engine in his Megane (ie bump start it with the ignition switched off). With the ignition in 'accessories on' position, the throttle was opened and closed with the engine spinning. At the bottom of the hill, the ignition was switched to on-which started it.

However, the engine run lumpily and would not rev past 2000RPM. After the engine was switched off, it restarted as normal with no further symptoms. It has left us stumped. Does anyone have any ideas as to what happened? Read more

Hope that the catalyser is still OK after this strange experiment!

That is a lazy urban myth that no one would bother repeating if they thought about it for more than a nano second....

I have just recently bought an audi a4 2003.

The car drives really well but on motorways it does tend to wonder a bit (not necessary due to the camber of the road). I cannot afford any expensive repair bills but think this could be due to a worn control arm / tie rod end. Does anyone know how much a job like this could cost or a good place to take it for repairs.... Read more

There are no bumps or clunks coming from the front suspention so i suspect all is well there then.

The car needs new tyres though, so i think that would cure the problem as well as a wheel alignment. Thanks for all the advice....

I suspect my calipers are seized slightly in the front. When I jack the car up and spin the wheels there seems some resistance. Does anyone know how to unseize them? Couls the slide pins be seized or caliper? any information would be great. Thanks Read more

The caliper needs to be stripped and serviced. With the pads out the piston freedom can be established. As you to not appear to have worked and brakes and this is a safety issue, then I suggest you get them checked out at an independant garage. Regards Peter
