Hi, I'm brand new to the forum and have a couple of questions about changing the Timing Belt (Cambelt) on a 2001 (Gen 1) Honda CR-V. Firstly, does anyone know of any common problems with doing this? I am a competent DIY mechanic but have not done a timing belt before. The next question is a bit strange, but is the crankshaft bolt left or right-hand threaded? Just wanted to check as it's probably going to be difficult to get out - so it isn't going to help if I am cranking in the wrong direction ;-)

I have a genuine Honda workshop manual, but I would be grateful for any tips/hints that anyone has about doing this job on this vehicle. I am planning on documenting this job in case it is of use to anyone else - I have done this sort of thing before, so the final product should look something like this:... Read more

I too have an 01 crv and had it changed at 7 years old even though the mileage was only about 50k. My local indie did it for me and it needed an airgun to undo the crankshaft nut so not really a diy job in my opinion. I bought the belt and tensioner plus all 3 auxiliary belts from a Honda dealership as these are a pain to change without undoing the nearside engine mount and slightly raising the engine.

If I recall it cost me around £300 in total including his labour charge, so not what I'd call extortionate. If you plan on doing it yourself, have a look round www.hondasuv.com; they're a friendly bunch based in the US but there's loads of info on their site. Good luck.

We have just had our 4th child (4 boys!), and now realise our Ford Galaxy (2001 model) is not big enough!!

When I say not big enough, what I mean is it seats the 6 of us no problem at all, but even with the 7th seat removed, there is not enough lugage space. As in a Phil & Teds buggy folded up fills the vacant chair space, so boy No. 1 has to climb over it to reach his seat. Not good, as not safe.... Read more

Don't worry about the op, that's a breeze. It's the 3 or 4 days afterwards when it feels like you've been kicked in the nuts that's the issue.

Good luck with it!

Hi, I need to change the brake discs and pads on my car. I all the equipment, however I am stupmed as to how I go about jacking up the car and placing the axle stands under the side jack points - surely if I jack up the car, I will be using one of the jack points and therefore not be able to place one of the axle stands as the jack pint where i am supposed to place the axle stand is being used by the trolley jack. I thought about just doing one wheel at a time, however the safety guidelines specifically say that I should not support the car on one side only - both sides should be supported by axle stands.

Is there another jack point underneath the front of the car which is not mentioned in the manual or haynes book I have?... Read more

No disrepect to your mechanical ability but if you cannot find a place for the axle stands should you be doing the work in the first place.

my wipers on my scenic 2 stopped working, I checked and replaced the 25

amp fuse in the fusebox under the bonnet but it blew up again as soon I turned on the ignition, I removed the wiper motor and connection changed the fuse again but as soon as I turn the ignition on with the wiper switch off the fuse blows again. the windscreen wash and rear wiper which are operated by same switch still work. It's probably a short circuit but where?... Read more

thanks for taking interest in my problem, but the problem is that I'm not sure where the relay is,even the Haynes manual doesn't give a clear indication if it lies in the multiplex module or somewhere else.Thank again.

I heard costco doing good deals on michelin tyres. I need a full set of 4 tyres before winter and have always had continental premium contact 2 or michelin energy

I was wondering if anyone knew a recent price for tyres as they wont give me a price before signing as a member. (Keeping in mind I would have to pay £23)... Read more

Hi,

I've recently purchased a 10 plate Honda Jazz 1.4 from a Honda garage and have been offered a deal for servicing the car. They are proposing £500 for 4 years servicing or £ 550 for 5 years. Unlike my previous Honda, which had to be serviced every 12000 miles or 12 months, the on board computer would indicate when a service is due. I am an Advanced Driver (female) and I do approx 11000 miles a year. I live in the country but commute to work using both city roads and motorways. Does the servicing schedule represent a good deal?
I look forward to hearing your views and advice.

Given inflation on oil and related products is likely to be well in excess of RPI, and a basics service can rarely cost under £100, bite their hands off for 5 years..

Hello, today I purchased a car from my local British Car Auction for the first time as a trader. Following payment I was handed the v5 with the leasing company's name on as the registered keeper.

I then drove to the nearest post office to put tax on the vehicle, which is where the initial confusion began! The rather stern woman behind the glass refused to tax the car for me unless I applied for a new v5. I now realise that it is pretty difficult to tax a car as a trader without doing so having just performed a search on HJ Backroom.... Read more

Hi,

I just did this job last night. You don't need any special tools, just twist the bayonet end and pull the rear collar forwards over the green plastic circlip type thing. Just keep twisting and pulling and it will come. I think I turned mine at least a couple of times before it gave, so perseverance is the key....
