Hello

I recently bought a car

Foolishly, I searched its history after I bought it, I cant explain why.

Anyway, the car is showing as stolen on the insurers register, but not on the Police register.

Ive contacted the seller who says "i know nothing of its history" and is happy for me to give his name to the Police.
Ive contacted the police but they werent interested as according to them the car isnt stolen.

The HPI firm say that for £20 they can contact the insurer to see if they still have an interest. They wont tell me who the insurer is.

Im reluctant to pay as im trying to do the right thing. I dont want to lay out £20 just to have them say "we're not bothered" or worse still "we're coming to get it".

I asked them who's actually looking for this car, they said nobody. its just on the register. So I can continue to use it and never get pulled? Yes, but it will just be difficult for me to sell.

Is there anyway for me to find out who the insurer was? What would be the recommended course of action. Any advice is greatly appreciated, as currently im feeling preety sick (and foolish) Thanks.

P.S. the log book has arrived and is in my name. If this helps.

What options do I have on the Skoda for not dazzling the oncoming traffic?

Clearly I can use the clip on converters, but is it in fact possible to buy a different bulb, or reposition it so the lights dip the other way (to the right)?... Read more

I live in France with two Uk RHD vehicles that we brought with us. The oldest one, an 05 Mitsubishi L200 pick-up truck had its first CT (french mot) at 4 years old last Feb, Reluctant to buy two new headlamp units, I reset both headlamps on dipped beam so that they are aligned to the right ,result- passed CT no problem. I personally wouldn't bother with the "beam benders" they just don't seem to do anything.

I plan to buy some snow tyres and steel wheels and have asked the potential supplier - mytyres - if the existing studs can be used. (I am concerned that either the length or head profile could be a problem.) They are quite unable to reassure me.

Anyone know or have experience?... Read more

I'd suggest asking Skoda UK or researching this on the Skoda discussion forum, as I'm sure you are not the first Skoda driver with this question.

I've also contacted mytyres UK on a different matter and have been given corporate non answers. ...

Central locking doesnt work. I believe there is a vacuum pump that controls this. Questions are: where is it? how to recognise it? how can it be tested?............mw Read more

If I recall the vac pump sits in the boot ,next to the spare wheel, under a metal protection cover. If it is not there, then it could be under back seat cushion.Testing is fairly easy. There should be a 2 pin plug with a power and earth supply and a 3 pin plug (blue/yellow/green)which are the 2 front doors and boot switching signals.hth

Been searching for winter tyres - existing tyres need replacing anyway and after last winter seems to be a sensible idea. Also will make me legal when I visit France / Switzerland in January.

UK channels have limited choice / stocks so I've looked at some euro sources - priced in sterling and aimed at UK consumers.... Read more

The symbol is now quite large you cannot miss it before it was small, you need to look at the DOT date on the tyres .A lot of cheap far east imports and copies do not have these and as far as I am aware illegal in the EU.Tyres cannot be sold without the Dot date and there is an age limit not sure of the top of my head what that is.It is a minefield M&S tyres now must be four season and have the snowflake whereas before they didn't ,the law on winter tyres was unenforcable in Germany and those with convictions are having the fines returned ,the new law comes into effect next week and is a federal law as opposed to state law.

Hi all just wondering if you couild help with this at all, the above car engine light came on and i was told it needed a cat regen, went and got this done at the mazda dealers, after getting new injectors (wallets still hurting) they told me it was too blocked up and would need a new Cat Converter, however they did offer to try a new solution which has come onto the market apparently which is 95% effective (didnt ask what it was called) in these situations and if it worked it would avoid me shelling out a shed load on a new cat converter / dpf filter, suffice to say it appears to have worked and the car is working fine, but the exhaust is making a fuunny sound in the 30-40 speed range (3rd gear) the best way to describing it would be a loud Brrr noise kinda similar to how my old 306 diesel sounded when the back box fell off once doing a quick visual the exhaust seems to be fine, i will ring them tomorrow to find out if its normal, but has anybody had any experience of cat / dpf regens, will the exhaust sound go back to normal in a few days or am i worrying for nothing, its my 1st car with a DPF and i have only had it about 3 weeks so i cant compare it to how it should have sounded. any and all suggestions much appreciated and thank you to all contributors in advance. By the way the dealers said that as this is the first car that they have used this solution on the company that provides it did it as a freebie or trial if you like so cant help with any pricing on this if any body else has a similar issue (the dealers impressed enough to give it a go) Read more

The exhaust seems noisier, hmm i wonder if the trial fix is removing the DPF and programming it out.

This service is offered by some tuners/remappers for other makes....
