Here is one in the eye for all you Renault Bashers out there.Just got back from my local indie garage my 1994 Clio with 111,000 appprox miles on the clock. Took the stroppy teenager in for service and M.O.T told the garage not to bother if needs lots spent on it. Garage called and passed o.k. only needing small weld on the exhaust total cost £267.00 including test. and service No rust issues on the car although rear wheelarches starting to look tatty may get can of paint out at some stage this winter . Looking forward to another years cheap depreciation free motoring.

Hello everybody, I'm interested in buying used cars without mot and taxes. I'm not living in UK at the moment but i have some friends in London, so they will help me to buy cars. Can you share any links to search for such cars?

Got a Golf with just under 50K on the clock.Had new brakes and discs on the front 6months ago. They are not VW ones and they squeak when the brakes are applied. Not long after it developed a droning noise, sounds like its coming from the rear. The noise gets louder especially if you go into a roundabout.Took it to a garage and the two very qualified chaps said they were not convinced it was a bearing.Told me to go away and put a few more miles on it and go back.Does it sound like a bearing has gone? Thanks for your help. Read more
I had a similar problem a few months back, (Octavia 1.9 tdi) actually changed one bearing before getting onto the forums. A very common problem which sounds exactly like bearing wear is uneven tyre wear on the rears, giving a saw tooth wear pattern on the inside edge of the tyre. You can check if it's this by changing your rear tyres onto the front and seeing if the noise changes. I noticed a very pronounced increase and steering roughness when I did this.
New tyres completely solved the problem, no noise, no vibration, so check this first. Affects across the VAG range.
First problem of any sort since new 2007.
There are three 'cigarette lighter' contacts in the CR-V, one at the base of the binacle, one in the boot wall and one in the 'cubbyhole' in the central console between the two front seats.
It's this last one between the seats I can't find in the manual. Neither can the dealer, who has kindly offered to find it for me.
The one in the boot is the only one I can find anywhere in the manual.
I can't find the main one in the binacle either, but that's still working so far.
Can anyone help with this?

Was it fitted by a previous owner to feed a phone charger or something similar if so it more than likely fed from nearest 12v supply.Connect a test bulb to it and pull out fuses till it goes out.
My Pajero only likes BP diesel. Put anything else in and the engine management light comes on and the engine gets a "diesel" rattle. I've had new injectors but that didn't fix it and a new pump is a lot of money.
Does anyone have a similar problem or does anyone know what is in BP that is different from other fuels? Read more
depending on where the Pajero was originally imported from the pump settings are different for different fuel ranges & climate. I have come across this issue many times before and there used to be some diesel specialist around that used to change the pump calibrations to suit UK derv.
Hi all
I bought a car December 08 from a dealer - used but advertised as having a FSH. I've had the car serviced 3 times from the same dealer since, but when I recently took it to a registered Nissan garage to get a new key programmed, they noticed the warranty and service book were for a completely different car.
Obviously this means that my car is without a service history, which goes against what the dealer advised. Is it possible for a dealer to get a new service history book and transfer the details over? If not (this seems a bit fraudulent!), am I entitled to any sort of compensation from the dealer?
Thanks for your help :) Read more

Consider yourself lucky. The debris sometimes forces itself into the cambelt cover & wrecks the cylinder head or worse.

Had these codes march 2010, had oil an filter change, today 6 months after oil an filter change the codes are back. Car does not rattle, do not suspect chain problem.
Scenario: start car, after about 10 secs start to drive off, 10 yards down road, light on,car lurches forward and down as if to stop/stall, throwing you forwards with a positive jolt, after this split second symton ,light stays on and she drives all day no problems what so ever, oil level is fine, any views greatly appreaited.... I agree with the OP - yes, it cost around £270 to get it serviced and have an MoT, but the fact that you know its history and have looked after it is worth far more. I run an 11 year old car but still make sure I get it serviced properly at the correct intervals. In the long run I'm sure it works out cheaper to keep an older car in good running order than to neglect maintenance or scrap it simply because it falls below a certain value. If I ran a car on the basis that I can't spend more money on it than it's worth, I'd have to get rid of it after filling up with 10 tanks of petrol!
