306 Estate 2.0 HDI - Is it or isn't it??? - Rocketman

During normal routine fluids top up I discovered this wrapped around the power steeing pump.

Initially I thought a piece of junk but now I'm thinking it looks about the same size as one of the pulleys.

Everything seems fine, I've not heard any unusual noises or any thing. The two pulleys I can see (PS pump and the one underneath it) both appear to be ok and don't look like they've started to fall apart.

Any suggestions - am I about the get a shock???

Strange object. Check the bottom anti vibration pulley ( Dampet pulley on the end of the crank ) is secure and not shedding and debris. Regards Peter

I think you are right Peter looks like a piece of pully or belt.

Sorry for the delay in replying to this thread. Thanks again to all for your help. It was the bottom pulley by the way. A loca garage inspected it and noticed small metal filings so put it on the ramp and confirmed it. All sorted :-)

Consider yourself lucky. The debris sometimes forces itself into the cambelt cover & wrecks the cylinder head or worse.
