Hi. I wondered if anyone was experiencing problems with the delivery of their ix35? My 4wd premium model was ordered end of March, was estimated delivery May/June and I have just been advised that due to supply problems it will not arrive until July/August! I am very disappointed to say the least and would like to know if it is just mine that is delayed. Read more
Hello all.

The reason why many cars have only one reversing light is cheapness of conversion from LHD to RHD.
It is mandatory to have a single rear foglight either in the middle of the vehicle or on the offside - thus a single foglight has to be moved from LHD to RHD....
Hello boys I am needing some help in easy girl speak please to put together an argument with VW. I have had my 56 plate 2007 car 4 months and it has broken down twice. The problem was the fuel injector and it had to be replaced. Fortunately the VW technichian was a top guy and put the case foward to have it replaced under goodwill other wise it was going to be 800 pounds. Three weeks later my car has broken down again and guess what..same problem.. different injector. The technichian has tried to get VW to agree to replacing all 3 at no cost but they will only pay to replace the current faulty one and I have to pay 50% of the other 2 if they replace them.. As far as I am concerened there is a problem here and if it was a pair of shoes you would say they were part of a faulty batch!! What do you think. I am no technicial girl but having googled and read this forum I pick up this is a problem and dont understand why the vehicles weren´t recalled. Do you think I have a case to get it done for free. Opinions most appreciated. I am worried that I could have an accident now as the vehicle on both occasions just shut down with no warning leaving me seconds to pull in and if it happened on the outside lane of a motorway it could be a different ending next time. Above message the car is a 2006 vw Passat 2.0L tdi
I bought a car from a private seller of autotrader, HPI checks came back clear and stupidly we gave cash for the car in a car park. when we got home our suspicions started, we found glass under the drivers seat, the key wasnt programmed to the central locking, and then found the VIN number on the window screen had a piece of plastic with another VIN number over it, also we found under the carpet the VIN number had been changed along with a sticker on the door. we immidiatly went to the police, who did checks on both VIN numbers, the fake ones matched the licence plate on the car, but that the car wasnt insured and didnt exist, we assume the VIN and reg plate were took from a car thats been sc***ped. then they checked the actual vin number, which showed the car actually was 2 years newer than we thought and virtually brand new, however the car hasnt been reported stolen... so the police basically said just to take it home, however now were in a 'limbo' situation, the police cant take the car, as its not reported stolen, but if we carry on usuing the car we risk being pulled over and arrested for driving a stolen car. we filled out the v5 for the car and left it with the seller to send off, however we dont know if wel recieve that back, or if hes sent it off. could anyone suggest how this situation could be resolved? It's not good news for you, but you know that already.
£6500 is quite a lot of money if you bought privately, which I'm guessing you did. For that I'd be using a dealer and there would be some come-back....
I have a strange problem which appears to be with the alternator. Car is Focus 1.8 TDCi 2006, 117k miles.
Symptoms and observations
- whining noise on tickover, pitch moves with engine speed.
- alternator casing gets very hot soon after starting engine from cold (within 1 minute)
- battery voltage is around 12.5v with ignition off, around 11.5v when engine running
- car appears to drive and operate fine including air-con, power steering, etc, and battery warning light goes out after starting engine.

An update - spoken to an auto electrical specialist, he's pretty sure it's the diodes gone, apparently a common problem with the Denso alternator on later Focus models. He reckons he can replace the diodes (with higher rated ones) for about £140 inclusive, I'll be happy with that if so.

Hi,
If you ever think about converting your car to LPG then think very long and hard first and preferably go and lie down in a darkened room until the madness passes. It might work on some cars but it has been a complete and utter disaster for me and I'm very badly out of pocket.... Read more
Seems like the post generated some comment and the arithmetic corrections on actual savings are probably nearer the truth (thanks) but I cannot be bothered to be that accurate.. just a few fag packet sums.
In short I've had a very profitable experience running a car from nearly new to something worth very little (what would you pay for a 9 year old mondeo with 207K miles on the clock)...
have a 99 Audi A3 1.8T petrol (AGU engine) the car has just done 100,000 miles
I have recently been having an intermittent problem.
I can be driving along normally then for no apparent reason when I accelerate the car hesitates and feels as if its missfiring, it lasts for varying amounts of time then disappears. When the car is stationary with the bonnet up I can see the engine appear to misfire causing it to jerk every so often causing a popping/spluttering noise from the exhaust. This doesnt always happen so cant put my finger on what it is. It doesnt seem to be there when travelling at motorway speeds, only when I put my foot down to pick up speed. A couple of times I have been sat at lights and the revs drop to almost stall point but then it corrects itself. last week it was really bad causing the mpg reading to drop to 14mpg but has gradually risen back to normal since then!
My dad is a retired police mechanic and he cant figure it out. He has a snap on diagnostic machine which doesnt pick up any problems, neither do I get any warning lights on the dash.
I have been trying to fix the problem but I am running out of time, money and patience as it isnt a consistent problem.
Not sure if it means anything but it has been worse since I serviced it a week ago, I changed the oil & filter, air filter & spark plugs.
Sinced the problem started I have checked the coil packs, changed the MAF sensor and the pre cat lambda sensor but still havnt cured it!
Any ideas? Read more
You may have an air leak into the manifold, check the small vacuum hoses as these often disintegrate. Also it is worth cleaning the air temp sensor which is mounted just after the throttle control valve, it is fixed in with 2 screws and will come out fairly easy. It may be caked in soot from the egr valve just upstream, carb cleaner & toothbrush works well.
I got a significant improvement in behavior on my alhambra 1.8t after a clean, I also cleaned the throttle valve while I was at it, it is still not 100% so I have some more work to do eleswhere.
