Car starts fine and drives fine for the first 30 seconds, then it starts to misfire badly when accelerating, although it’s not too bad if you accelerate very gently and slowly. It revs fine and idles fine. Then after a few more minutes and the engine has reached full temperature it perfect.

I checked the obvious stuff, the plugs are genuine ford from the dealer and are 4 months old, I swapped coil pack and leads with a mates car to check and no difference. There are no fault codes.... Read more

Our 2003 Fiesta 1.4LX is doing the same type of thing, only 40,000 miles, not as bad as your 1st 2 posters, a misfire/hesitation when cold at light throttle openings, which tends to clear as the engine warms throughly say 5 miles. Flat out driving is fine! I wondered about

the coolant sensor sending incorrect signals to the ECU, but I am only making an educated guess....

You're welcome, and I'm relieved my memory's not jumbling things up, I've had 7 cars and worked on all of them in my time.

If you get difficult starting from warm/hot, it's usually old spark plugs, btw.

Hello,

Would apppreciate some help with a problem on the above vehicle which is driving me and my local garage mad. Emissions light came on and car down on power. Fault code read as P1592 so replaced turbo boost switch. Car was ok for about a week then problem recurred. Garage carried out a live data check and given the boost switch has been replaced came up as Air mass meter which was replaced under warranty.... Read more

Dear All,

I have a 2004 Ford Fusion 1.4TDCi. I had a leak from the rocker cover gasket for a while which turned out to be a leaking fuel injector, when I took it to the garage they pointed out the "ticking" noise of the leaking injector. I thought it was oil initially but turned out to be diesel. It was actually leaking whilst under warranty but the local Ford garage informed me that "Gaskets were not covered", as I thought I had a rocker cover gasket leak. I suspect injector seals would probably have been covered under warranty but they left me to think it was the rocker gasket.... Read more

I would stop wasting you money with the garage you are dealing with, since how many times are you going to take it to them....

Hi, Yesterday, I was driving at about 20mph on the near side of a suburban main road in bright daylight when a K-reg Audi seemingly waiting on the offside to join the traffic suddenly turned left sideways just eight or nine yards in front of me and stopped. No way to avoid him. I applied full ABS brakes but just slightly hit his rear nearside. He claimed to be pulling in to his house situated on a parallel service road with joining openings at intervals. My car has slight superficial paint damage, repairable with a touch-up at home. His car however had a long severe dent along the near side (but with no paint of my colour that I noticed). His dent did not match my rounded virtually undamaged front wing in any way.
We exchanged names, addresses and insurers. He was quite heated and blamed me, pointing out his damage, but as he was much taller and younger than I, I said little. His insurer was Tradex, which I see is for car dealers, taxis, couriers etc. Is it likely this is an attempt at insurance fraud, and what are my options? He and I were both alone in our cars, with no other witnesses who stopped. I phoned the police, who did not want to be involved at this point. I phoned my own insurer's agent, who will get their investigative branch to look into it. I photographed my car. I am sure that the Audi was already damaged and that there will be a claim on me, supported by false statements. Has anyone a similar experience? I believe that there is a scam of this type, for which some people were sent to prison, but usually at roundabouts and with "witnesses" in the offender's car. This sort of thing is upsetting and I would be glad of advice.

Yes there is a fuse for the fuel pump. It`s number 25 in the engine bay fuse box. I have an interest in this thread, as mine is doing exactly the same thing as the OP!!

Hi, i have a Mk1 fiesta 1981 1.1L, the problem is: when i start my car and drive away from cold it will pull away lovely with just a touch on the accelerator, the pedal feels nice and light and responsive and the car revs freely and pulls along lovely, then as the car warms up it seems to bog down and needs to be revved harder just to get it to pull, and feels like i only want to use a light acceleration and change up as soon as i can because it seems to be killing it if i try and drag each gear out. I have changed the points, rotor arm, leads, dizzy cap, plugs, condensor, air filter, oil and oil filter, set the dwell angle with a dwell meter, set the timing but it still wont play ball, i am convinced it's once the car is warmed up that is causing the problem. One theory i have is the air temp, maybe once it's breathing warm/hot air it doesn't like it. Read more

i never said it works ok under choke, what i said was, i use the choke for a min to get it ticking over, push the choke in, once it's idling i drive it off and it's great until the engine warms up properly, which isnt that long. Now i have the tappety noise too, which is probably due to cleaning 30 years worth of crud off the rocker assembly, but even setting the valve clearances wont quieten it now,it does a bit but not as silent as it was.

Where do they buy the parts £150 you have to be kidding.A service on a 1.4 using proper oil and filter should cost no more than £80 with labour. The reason these glass palaces exist is because people pay stupid prices for an oil change and the tyres kicked because thats all they will do.
