Anyone heard of problems with Auris handbrakes? My sister in law parked her Year old Auris on a slope yesterday (in neutral. Yes we all know it should be left in gear). returned to her car to find it had rolled into a gate and stoved in the front wing. She has no problem putting the brake on. Straw poll of nosey neighbours concluded "ah yes thats because the discs were hot when parked and the pressure eased off when they cooled down" Is it feasable in this day and age that a handbrake could really be so unreliable? didn't some cars have (may still have) a miniture set of shoes in the hub so this would not happen? Hi. I have a 2003 (revised) Nissan Almera N16 1.5S. I’m hearing some strange noises from from the front end of the car after it has been driven constantly for a while. There are a mixture of high pitched squeels and low pitched "groans". When setting off from a stationery position, I hear the low pitched groaning as if something is rubbing. This groan soon turns to a whirring noise as the car speeds up. At higher speeds, I hear more of a squeel whilst the wheels are turning. I hear none of these sounds when applying the brakes.... Indeed some of the N16 Tino variants (the mini MPV) certainly suffer with seized calipers, from what I hear they ain't cheap either. So maybe the hatchback model N16 does too, probably same brake system...?
(In this case, I've no firm idea what it could be, worn bearings sound should be easy for a decent garage to diagnose in 10 seconds if it were that.)
I will admit my experience with a Toyota was soured when I bought an absolutely worn out one that hadn't been serviced at all for eight years on the grounds it was still a Toyota and would be reliable( it wasn't, even if it kept going for 12 months warts and all, but what did you expect for £ 200). However, almost everyone else who owns Toyotas told me this was a car on its last legs and theirs had been almost no trouble if serviced and MOTed. For nearly 30 years Corollas, Starlets and their successors have topped reliability and satisfaction surveys. However, after the recent scares with accelerator pedals and some reports of high mileage older Avensises burning oil, are Toyotas worth buying as I am considering a Toyota for when I trade in my Nissan? Put car in garage for heater plugs relay. When I got it out after leaving it sitting for about an hour, started car and about 5 seconds later it died had to turn engine for about 2 mins before it started. Put back into garage they put one way flow fuel filters next to injectors. Got it out after lying cold for an hour it wouldn't start at all. AA boy told me I needed my injectors overhauled garage then tells me it is my fuel pump. Can anyone shed some light on this. Read more
The most likely cause is air in the fuel system, did the fit a new fuel filter? Try the effect of pumping the primer until it goes hard, if it starts then you have an air leak.

Is the Kuga not available (soon) with a 1.6 turbo petrol engine? It will be on its way for sure.
Am in the market for a cheap, used car and have been offered a Rover 75, 1.8, 52 plate, 110k for £700. it looks lovely and would seem to be a lot of car for the money. It's being sold by the owner of my local garage, who I know to be a decent chap! Haven't as yet had a chance to drive the car or even speak at any length to seller... He did mention the car has a new head on it...
I'm just wondering if anyone in the know could offer their opinion of the 75... Or is buying a Rover in general just a bad idea?! What's the situation re. spares etc.. Thanks! Read more
Lovely stylish, comfy cars.
I had a MG ZTT tourer/estate version but it was just the 1.8 non turbo. Looked the business - real presence, class and so damn comfy, and the handling with the slightly firmer suspension was really spot on. And it went surprisingly well for a smallish engine in a big car....
can anyone advise what sort of problem this is, my oil pressure drops down to zero and i get a rattling noise like a cam noise when driving,, once engine is switched off it clears itself and doesnt happen for a few days. Read more

Can anyone tell me if the arrow marked on my new pivot bushes is meant to point forwards, backwards, up or down and if they are one the outside or inside of the frame? Read more
Ask ford service for advice.Thank you bigtee, you were the only one to respond.
Tried the ford website, but not useful unless you want to buy a new car....

Wasn,t the suspension" relaxing down" thought to play a large part in this problem with Citroens? Can a handbrake be classified as not fit for purpose if it goes from holding a car to letting it roll away?
