In fact German and Swedish cars also do these parts for around these prices too.

I bought a new IX35 Premium Diesel about 3 weeks ago. The quoted mpg figures from the brochure are as follows : Urban 40.4, Extra Urban 54.3 & Combined 47.9
The car had 10 miles on the clock when I bought it, and so I fully expected the engine would need to be run-in. The first 100 miles or so gave 36mpg. After about a week I went for a run and the car was indicating 42mpg, however since then the next 2 tanks full of fuel have both only averaged 34mpg.
Hyundai UK said the engine needed 500 miles to bed in, while the suppling dealer said 2K. The Aftersales Manager also said he was getting the low 30's in his company IX35. Surely the real world mpg should be around the figure quoted for the Combined cycle ?
I have also noted and pointed out that the engine does not seem to be reaching the right temperature. The temp dial is a graphic where the 12 o'clock position indicates 90C, however the dial never gets to that position and stops one quadrant short (about 80C if the scale is linear).
Once again the suppling dealer told me that they all do that !
Would you say this is normal for a new model, and would the fact that the published mpg figures are nowhere near achievable be grounds for rejecting the car ? Read more

Forgot to mention our i10 only returned 44 MPG during its 2 months as my commute car when the claimed combined was in the mid 50's. The 200 BHP A3 cab petrol that replaced it is getting 38 MPG on the same run.... Is this a Hyundai thing?

Hi,

I'm really hoping someone can give me a bit of advice. This morning, I scratched a car's bumper in a car park and didn't know what to do. The damage wasn't terrible, but it was still damage nonetheless. It is not dented, definitely just a scratch, but quite a deep one. I phoned my old driving instructor (I've only passed in the last few months) who came through and he was going to advise me and help me take photos so that the person with the scratched car couldn't accuse me of any other damage. B y the time my instructor had got through the car in question had gone. I feel worse because now I can't leave my details. There is CCTV in the car park but I don't think it is pointing at the area where the incident took place. I don't know any details about the car I damaged other than it is red.

The same thing happened in reverse a few weeks a go. A car has gone into me and caused much more damage and just driven off. My front wing is quite badly damaged but my car is old and I'm not going to bother repairing it. But that doesn't make this ok, the person who damaged my car may not have a conscience, but I do. I feel terrible for what has happened. A lot of people have told me not to worry about it, chalk it up to experience. The car park isn't manned or anything so there is nobody there I can report it to. I don't know what to do, can someone advise please? Read more

You need to report this incident to the police immediately with as much information as you have to protect yourself.

I deal with many similar cases, many of which seem to occur in supermarket car parks....

Is it true that all cars next year should have daytime running lights? If so when are they to be phased in? Read more

My car has a DPF, and in light of the many stories of problems with these filters, I wonder if other forum members have any advice or tips. Most mileage on my car is done on motorways in rush hour traffic, at 60-75 mph indicated, which relates to about 1750-2300rpm in top gear. Some short urban journeys too, though I try to avoid these for several reasons. I tend to boot it on the m-way by sticking in 4th when I join and running the engine up to about 3500rpm for a short while, maybe a couple of minutes. When I do this a cloud of black smoke comes out of the exhaust, as if the car's clearing its throat. Is it the build-up of this sort of soot which does for filters in the end? Read more

Toyota's DPF is a self cleaning variety, and theoretically should last the life of the vehicle. I have never seen or for that matter, never even heard of a single issue on any Toyota with a DPF fitted.

Had my car serviced and MOT'd yesterday-good news it passed.

However, when I got home I noticed the reg number on the MOT cerificate was incorrect-they had put its old reg number on(last year I put a cherished number plate on it).... Read more

I've had this recently. The testing station can change the details on the MoT certificate within two weeks, so get down there with the certificate and documentation and stand there complaining loudly until it is changed. get soemthing off in a recorded delivery letter within the two weeks.

In my case, they put an extra 15,000 miles on the (very low) mileage, BUT I didn't notice until the following year when I replaced the old certificates. The DVLA records now show a reduction in the mileage between tests. Owners can access the mileage records on-line....

My first car, an old 89 escort, has been sat in my parents driveway, much to their embarassment, for a few years now because I have had several newer cars but just cant bring myself to sell "maggie".

Now, I live about 80 miles away form there but have decided to put the car back on the road, the problem is, of course, that it first needs to be taxed and MOT'd. For it to pass its MOT it will need a bit of work, but I'd rather have it done at my local garage as I know and trust them.... Read more

Tried this enquiry on MoneySavingExpert forums but mostly got snorts of derision at the very prospect of selling a used car to a dealer (despite clearly stating why that's what I want to do). So I thought I'd try here.

Due to a change of job it's no longer necessary for me to run a car so I'm looking to get rid of mine. Won't be specific but it's a small 1.0 hatchback, 02 plate, around 45k on the clock. First car. I'm sure you can guess. In good condition, always starts, sounds nice when running, only a couple of minor cosmetic flaws.... Read more

Our car (6 years old) has recently started letting water into the drivers side footwell. This has happened twice, first time after washing the car and second time after a heavy downpour. We have assumed it is running down windscreen and is supposed to drain out. We cannot find any "drainhole". It takes weeks to dry out. Has anyone got any ideas on this? Read more

I have the same problem on my 508SW. I first thought it was the windscreen seal as there was a part of the seal coming away from the glass. Resealed this but made no difference. Water runs down from the left hand side into the drivers footwell when heavy rain or when I wash the car. Poured a bucket of water along the vents (not onto the windscreen or seal) and water runs down into the footwell. It appears to me that the drain vent is blocked ? But how to get at it to clear it is my next challenge.

Any idea what sort of MPG the various petrol engine options of the focus return, under motorway driving.

I am particulalry interested regarding the figures returned by the 2.0 engine and the 1.6 [115bhp] engine.... Read more

I have actual done a search on focus mpg and read all the posts. However I could not glean the specific information that I was looking for from them; viz, the motorway driving (at NSL) mpg for the focus 1.6 [115 bhp].
