I have recently purchased a 2006 BMW 320d touring (E91) and, using the instructions at http://www.scoopz.com/m5board/E60_Hidden_OBC_Instructions.pdf I have checked the Onboard Computer (OBC) in the hope of checking the validity of the mileage.... Read more
I had been having a slight problem where the Van would "slightly" crunch into 2nd gear. Yesterday the van started to crunch into 2nd very badly no matter at what speed the revs were at. Anyway today it got even worse and within 2 minutes of me driving i pulled over and the gearbox was making a terrible noise - it felt like i was sitting on top of a washing machine on its spin cycle. I turned the van off and have parked it up in a side street.
Do you think the Vans box has finally gone?... Read more
Just wish i wet to him first of all. I normally do most "home mechanic" things myself - servicing, brakes etc but the gearbox was way beyond me.

Hi. The problem is either the spring brake chamber or the cables
If both wheels gave poor readings on the rollers it is possibly the spring...
About 18 months ago the rear nearside wheel came off my Vectra estate while I was negotiating a right hand bend, fortunately at fairly low speed. This was found to be due to all 5 wheel bolts shearing off. It was reported to the local Vauxhall dealer at the time and was dismissed as being due to overtightening of the bolts although my checks on the rest of the car suggested none of the other wheels had overtightened bolts. Last weekend I was having a tyre changed at a local Tyre fitter and when they removed the offside wheel one of the bolts was found to be split. I believe it was one of the replacement bolts I bought last time as I arranged them between both rear wheels. These were genuine GM parts. Both Vauxhall and the local dealer seem totally disinterested in the matter and refuse to investigate or do anything about it. The local dealer has offered to do checks on the wheels but at my expense and they refuse to do any checks on the bolts themselves. I am left now in a position of not knowing why this problem is occuring and therefore very wary of driving the vehicle unless I spend alot of money having the bolts tested myself. I would expect the manufacturer to take such a potential safety issue more seriously. Perhaps you could suggest what further action I can take

If a wheel comes off a vehicle then there is the absolute offence of using a vehicle parts and accessories in such condition as likely to cause danger. All that has to be proved is that it happened and in such circumstances as likely to cause danger .. period.
Generally the circumstances outlined are as a result of over tightening wheel nuts which fracture the studs or loose fitting where the wheel works loose off the studs wearing them down to a point and eventual breakage. Which is one the reasons why the lorry wheels you see have them yellow plastic markers on the studs Only forensic evidence cand show metal fatigue....

I'd bite their hand off @ £1000.
It's a 12 yr old car, with 12 months MoT it would be worth maybe £500 to a private buyer. there's no way I'd pay £1000 for a 12 yr old Primera, estate or otherwise....
bought this car 6 weeks ago and I got 3 months warranty with the car, but for the last week or so the car has refused to start now and again(both on my key and the wifes key)..so got the above error codes and have been told its the cim module...I rang the dealer from where it was bought and he says its not covered in the warranty so will have to stump the cost myself? where do I stand on this as I say only had it 6 weeks, also have kids and dont want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere Read more

Hello, my wife paid a £500.00 deposit by credit card for a second hand car at a ford dealership and said she would pick up the car in about four weeks when she had received an insurance payout. On the receipt the salesmen wrote delivery date TBC.
The manager & salesan have both now called my wife today and said we have to pick up the car asap otherwise we will have to pay more for the car as second hand the prices will go up.
This was last Saturday so only three days ago, my wife now does not want to buy the car from this garage as she is feeling a little bit harrasssed.. Can we tell them we have changed our mind and claim back our deposit.
Also can they really now make us pick up the car sooner that they agreed.
Thanks for your help

Thanks for the advice, I'll speak to them and see if we can reach agreement.
The fan on my P reg 1.6 Fiat Bravo doens not seem to be operating at all the car overheats. I have been told to check the relay next to the battery. When I open this compartment it has space for a relay but there is not on there. I have also bypassed the radiator fan switch using a paperclip and fan still does not work. Anyone any ideas? Read more
The sensor should be after the relay normally in the radiator or a hose connection you will have to trace the switch wire back from the fan motor.I assume you have a good volt meter and you know how to use it.
Have used non dealer for front suspension MOT work.
Have now got 3 warning lights on dashboard and am advised that the sensors have been activated by the mechanic.
How can I get them turned off without paying a fortune to a Dealer? Read more
If the driveshafts have been removed then possibly the ABS sensors were demaged..
