18 months ago someone reversed into my car (Honda S2000). Damage was not massive but car was being repaired for about a week as it required parts and respray etc. I signed a credit hire agreement at the time (before I had done any research) and received a new Alfa Romeo GT as a replacement. Repairs were done and car handed back. 18 months on and I've now received a letter from Albany Assistance who are dealing with it on behalf of Bell Insurance that the 3rd party insurer is refusing to pay the car hire costs of about £1200. I then received letters from a "paralegal" on behalf of a solicitor saying that the case was going to the small claims court so I should sign this and that and co-operate etc. I'm completely bewildered and worried about what I may be asked to pay for when I had no blame in the accident. I have not yet been in touch with the solicitor because I don't want anything to do with it but how do I make sure I don't get stung for solicitor's fees on top? It's a scandal that this can even happen to an innocent, insured person. Help!
we were travelling down the motorway and suddenly the van started to die on me so we pulled over to the hard shoulder to see what was happening the back of the van was covered in oil and there was a trail of oil down the road, so i checked the oil and filled it up, tried to start it again and it made a whoomp sound and died again so i took the rocker covers off as it had blown the rocker cover gaskets off so i put them back on and tried again it blew them off again so i refitted them and took the oil breather pi have a vw bay window 1972 1600 camper van.
ipe off the air filter it fired and blethe w rocker cover gaskets off again and smoke came out of the oil breather pipe and exhaust, refitted the gaskets again but this time i took the oil filler cap off it made a loud noise and blew the gaskets again and smoke came out of the exhaust etc, could you please help regards andi Read more

The electric aerial has stopped going up and down but i can still hear the motor starting and stopping, i think i have a replacement to fit but does the trim that hugs the wing need to be removed in order to get the inner wing off so as the broken aerial can be accessed, i have removed all of the screws/inserts but the inner wing is still stuck fast but appears to lip under the exterior trim......any suggestions, thanks Paul Read more
There is only one type of replacement mast and nylon drive that fits this car and as far as I am aware it is only available from toyota.A new mast can be fitted from the top without removing the aerial from the wing by removing the chrome top locking ring and tube guide. The new mast can be fed in from the top.The only problem may be if the nylon drive has broken in which case the aerial will have to be removed and dismantled to take out the broken drive. The plastic wing under shield will need to be removed for access. It is held to the wing with some screws and plastic pop studs.hth

Hi all. Lovely forum you have here
Just need some help with probably the most daft mistake I could have made.
I have a VW Golf MK4 Automatic.
I opened the door and put the keys on the dash.
I put my luggage in the back.
I shut the back door.
The vibrations then caused the keys to slide down the dashboard and into a mysterious place in the right hand side of the front window.
Now i tried a pipe-cleaner / stick up the side trim to try and hook them out and unscrewing the plastic below the steering wheel. Ideally I need the top of the dashboard off.
Has anyone any answers?

If you can`t get a magnet ended rod down due to the ridgidity - I would epoxy adhesive a strong magnet onto a length of strong string and lower that down....

very sorry can`t help but wondering if your friend has haynes manual that covers the year 1998, have laguna estate, living in france, could he look to find out how to remove the high level spoiler on the tailgate, it has a illuminated high level brake light in it, which has stopped working, failed on the m.o.t. We have laguna book for renault 1.9, 2001-2005, will look for some answers in this for you, this is our other car, which the gearbox is screaming, need a s/h box from england can`t find anybody who will deliver to us in france. So bought the estate cheap for running around in this .... country. Renault parts are very expensive here, trying to repair ourselves.
Hi. I will try and make this as short as possible.
I purchased a vehicle (Citren Saxo 1.1) a few months ago. It was to be shared between myself and my son.
Me the main driver/ son named driver. (Son new driver 21yrs old.) Because of this the policy originally cost me £1,500.
All above board explaining car was a cat C (all paper work present, VOSA/VIC checks.)
This worked well until I got my other car back onto the road.
As soon as this was the case, I contacted the insurance and explained the situation, stating that my son would now be the main driver and I may have to use the car myself sometimes, so I would now be a named driver.
This cost me another £1000. Insurance policy total £2,5000. ( £1,850 in total paid up front to keep monthly payments/interest down.)
My son has now saved the money to pay me for this vehicle and wanted it in his name.
I called insurance and they said the only way to do this is to cancel policy (as the vehicle would be owned by someone else?)and start a new one BUT I will lose 2 thirds of money for cancellation of policy! (Approx £1,750+!) Then new policy would cost the same again, approx another £2,500!
They said the car is fine in my name and all legal as I have declared everything and changed son to main driver.
However, my concern is as he is the main driver of the car now, I would really prefer (as my son would) that the car is registered to him.
It would only be a change of names on the log book. Address/ his job/everything etc is exactley the same.
Is the insurance company within their rights to do this as it is only a change of keepers name and if so and anything did happen, would I as registered keeper be liable for anything?
Policy is a fully comprensive and been totally honest with insurance from the get go, however, just feel insurances always look for a way not to pay out if anything did happen! Is there anything they are not telling me etc?
Advice would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

For information only I had no problems whatsoever transferring my no claims from the UK to Gernany and back again twice over.

Books could be written on the subject as cases have been rumbling around the courts for the last decade.
But the current core guidance as to whether credit hire charges are enforceable follows from two Accident Exchange cases - Barker and Barker v First West Yorkshire Limited (2007) and Corbett v Gaskin (2007)* which mean (broadly) that credit Hire charges are enforceable providing they fall within agreed ABI rates....
