It is, I've been working with alternators ever since they replaced dyanamo's and 14 volts is the norm, sometimes even a little over, much below that and the battery will not fully charge. I don't know how that relates to your original fault though.

Not sure but sounds like you need to unscrew the filter from the filter head, hold the part with the pipe connections in a vice if possible or in hand and unscrew the filter.

Fill the new filter with diesel and screw back onto the filter head and refit the pipes. start and run engine to clear any air in the system....

Travelling along the M3 and M25 recently, it dawned on me that the huge speed limit signs once used at motorway roadworks are no more, replaced by much smaller ones.

I noticed this particularly along the northern section of the M25, where widening is going on.... Read more

Hi,

Quick opinions sought for Mum; we've been looking at lots of options and have narrowed them down, it seems, to one of two Corsas. One is the last of the 'old' shape, a 1.4 16v full auto; the other a 1.2 16v semi auto.... Read more

Sorry - it's the way the swear filter works - think of the last four letters of the word in question. You'd have the same problem if you mentioned a football club run by Mr Wenger.

Anyway, glad she's got a car she likes.

Yes, but the engine fitted determines the level of damage. If it is a 2.0 HDI I believe the head design makes use of fingers which open the valves, as with the 2.1 XUD. In this case usually the fingers break when the valves are hit by the pistons, and repair is fairly cheap, consisting of a new timing belt, and replacing the broken fingers. It is possible however that something other than lack of maintainance caused the belt to fail (when was the belt last replaced?) such as a failed crank pulley.

If it is the 1.6 HDI, I have no idea, I have no experience of that engine. I don't think you have the 1.9 DW8 engine, as you have already mentioned having a lift pump on the fuel tank, which AFAIK the DW8 never had....

Hi,

My daughter has been told she needs a new camshaft sensor and air mass sensor for her kia sedona , can i do this myself and where to obtain parts or is it a specialist job.... Read more

Many thanks for replying , she took it into kia and they diagnosed either camshaft sensor or maf meter . They said one of the two could be at fault , so to replace both they want £550 . I got a maf meter on ebay and had that put in but has not made any difference so i suspect camshaft sensor.

I was in the process of buying a VW Camper from an old chap who'd gone into a old foks home. During the negotiations he passed away. I am now trying to find out who is dealing with his estate as he has no relatives so that I can continue with the sale. The van in question is now still parked on the drive at his old home address, before the old folks home. The house is being subject to vandalism and I would hate to see the van suffer the same fate. How would I stand if I could remove it for safekeeping and put a letter through the door to advise the administrators of the estate about who I am, the new location, etc. I feel that if I do nothing it will either be wrecked or nicked! Any advise would be much appreciated. PS the local bobbies aren't interested as nothing has actually happened, yet, and it is parked off the road. Read more

If he was admitted to the care home recently, you might find a Social Worker was recently involved. There may be relatives on a file and your message able to be forwarded to them.

Similarly a financial assessment may well have been carried out by the Local Authority and they may be involved in his affairs....

Dear John,
I have a 52 plate Ford ranger with 52000 miles on the clock and full dealer service history.
In May 2004 it was in the local dealer for some accident repair it was insured with Ford. After the repair I collected it from the dealer and set off home only to find after 12-15 miles that the temp gauge had gone in to the red. I stopped and found that the dealer had not put any coolant in the engine.
I wrote to Ford and the dealer to put them on notice that I was concerned that it may have damaged the head and could cause a problem in the future.
The Head has now cracked and Both Ford and the dealer are denying any liability and are being very un helpful.
I am aware the over heating occured 6 years ago but the Ranger has only done 52K.
The dealer is blaming the Mazda engine claiming they have a none fault.
Thanks for your time and any help you can suggest

hi i bought a car from a well known dealer. i got the car mid feb 2010. i paid a fair price for it.
2 days ago on my way home form work the engine raced and when i stopped it was revving it nuts off hitting limiter and smoking like a chimney. i managed to stall it as i could not shut it down as i had taken key out and it was still revving. its a 1.9 tid saab 93 2007 .
its gone into a garage to get looked and its come back as the turbo seals were damaged and its sucked up oil and ran on it own oil. now am i correct in thinking the sales of good acts come into affect as turbo seals were faulty before i got the car and that it would not wear out within 4 months? i have extended warranty but im only trying to gain knowledge now so i know where i stand . if warranty pay out then in all fairness thats ok. but if they dont i`m stuck with a large finance on the car and a hefty bill for work and a car that does not work. the damage is complete engine failure.
any help fomr anyone would help me alot.
