The water pump on my 2.2 petrol Vectra C 2003 model was replaced by my local Vauxhall dealer at 56,000 miles due to a water leak. The first replacement was noisy - a high pitched sound when revving the engine and driving. When I complained, there was no problem in having another pump fitted at no extra charge as the new part was diagnosed as faulty. But the second new pump is noisy, too - but not as much as the first replacement - and when I queried it I was told that this sometimes happens and it's nothing to worry about. Should a new water pump be noisy - I know it's chain driven, but the original wasn't - so shouldn't a new pump be quiet? Read more

The chances are you were caught for a camera enforceable offence around 2001 and had not kept your address up to date. A Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) would have been sent along with a request for information to identify the driver. After a month a further request would heve been sent and if that did not get a response they would normally summons you under Section 172 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 for failing to furnish them with information, an offence that at the time carried 3 points. Again had you failed to respond it is possible you could have been found guilty in your absence and penalty points would have been incurred.

The DVLA would have continued to write to you eventually stating that if your licence was not surrendered they would revoke it. They normally will not revoke it immediately - you get a year before they do so. Had you renewed or updated your licence within this time the points would have been applied when it was returned to you and that would be the end of it....

Hello,

My father has a C4 which on the whole he has been very pleased with. It does have one fault however that once every year or so the drivers side door handle breaks. Just wondered if any other people had suffered from this?.... Read more

Thanks for the replies. My father is a pretty careful owner so i suspect it is just bad luck on his part and perhaps a bit of flimsy construction. I used to have Citroen s until i grew tired of them falling to pieces!

Keep records of all correspondence showing them you informed them several times of the change and sought to keep them informed at all times and they will be compelled to indemnify you in the event of an accident.

However send them a final letter by post recorded delivery (keeping a copy) as a complaint and requiring that they update your details correctly this time and inform you that they have updated them correctly.

State that you will hold them responsible for any errors or omissions whether or not they do so.

Hi,

I currently have a 2002 Octavia vRS and it has served me well for the last 5 years but its time for a change and I need to save some money on the fuel bill at the same time as having something that is still fun to drive and practical enough for a growing family (1 baby so far another in a few years) so im looking at one of the below cars.... Hello

Can Rover 416si 92/93 be insured as a classic car ?... Read more

I have one car with www.lancasterinsurance.co.uk. There is also www.gottandwynne.co.uk. However you should make sure you are happy with any exclusions within the cover. I have another (bordering on) classic and that is on standard, bur agreed value insurance, as the exclusions were too limiting!

In February 2008 I was involved in an RTA. Rear ended from behind and pushed into the car in front. The car in front was stopped at a green light.

My insurance company got me in touch with a well known company that supplied me with a courtesy car. I asked both them and the insurance company who would be responsible for payment. They told me it would not be me under no circumstances. ... Read more

Three car shunts are always complicated in liability terms as the sequence of events can be particularly difficult to evaluate. If you were rear-ended from behind and pushed into the car in front then you are not liable at all. If you rear-ended the first car then you are liable for their damage but the car behind should have been able to stop in time.

In these circumstances it is very likely that unless there was an independent witness no one (including the reporting engineer) is quite sure what happened so the insurers agree to settle 50:50 rather than argue it out....

Hi folks!

My car is a vw bora 1.9 tdi pd 130.
The problem is now...I think the fuel consumption increased.
Symptons were:
Limp mode, power loss,17965 error code in vag-com which is Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation

I have changed n75,maf,cleaned the turbo with innotec turbocleaner.
Now the problem:
Since a mechanicer has cleaned the turbo,I get 30mpg consumption, and a few black smoke-on water(more water) on the floor If I get 3000-3500rpm in idle.

The question is:

Can a sticky turbo vanes or bad MAP sensor cause this symptons?
I mean the increased fuel consumption and the bit black smoke.

The weird thing is when I get first time limp mode, there was not black smoke or increased fuel consumption.I have just realised since the turbo has been cleaned with innotec cleaner.

Other idea is this stuff which comes out from the exhaust still can be the innotec cleaning stuff?I have driven about 100 miles since has been cleaned.

I have got this with vag-com:

We have written to the BMIHC (British Motor Industry Heritage Trust) and had the date of manufacture confirmed, the car was dispatched from the Longbridge factory in Birmingham on 10th November 1969 and registered and on the road only 3 weeks later on 1st December 1969

For the past 18 months since I purchased this beauty I have been on forums all over the place, in particular Mini Forums but have not had anything constructive back. Apart from a couple of people saying something like "My mate has one older than yours" but I don't want to give your the reg number. If I ask for a reg number they go quiet as from this I will find the date of registration.... Read more

A work colleague of mine runs an 04 plate 3.0i sport (petrol). It has been reliable, but eats tyres(big and expensive). He says he gets around 18-19MPG on rural roads in to work and can get 23-25 on a long run.
