Hi Guys;
I bumped with this nice website through internet search and have just subscribed !
May be you noticed TESCOs offer on Castrol oils ? So, I picked up the 5w-30 A3/B4 for my 1999 model Petrol Vauxhall Vectra (60K miles).
Usually, I use Vauxhall oil 10w40 A3/B3.
However, I thought the Castrol 5w30 will be more synthetic and convenient for my driving pattern: which is daily several short trips around (in-town). And hence, several ONs & OFFs.
Any recommendations or comments are very welcommed.
Please accept my thanks in advance.
With kindest regards;

UPDATE -- found my notes, I did much research - for some people it was a bad idle control valve, others it was the coil pack, others had a firetrap (breather filter) put on which stopped it recurring aftyer breather & rocker cover clean (I tried that firetrap also), on mine the problem remained when I sold the car and the only part I'd not changed was the O2. However, go to vauxhallownersnetwork forum and have a look, you'll see a variety of causes, hopefully not he O2 on yours as they ain't cheap.
Hi,
I had the ECU on my citroen fail a couple of weeks ago. The garage I took it to did a repair on it which they told me it was a semi-to-permament repair. I didn't want to fit a new one (at at cost of £1,000). A week later my car has broken down again outside another garage who is looking into it. I've been told that the ECU has failed and will almost definitely need a new one.... Read more
If you have no joy, try BBA REMAN, they repair all kinds of components including all manner of ECU's. Including the Sagem ECU's which may be found in your car.

One of the guiding principles of law is that it is almost impossible to develop good title. Hence If the top end dealer bought a stolen car and they sold it on to you the law has to decide whether to protect the original owner (or their insurer if the claim has been settled) or you as the honest purchaser.
With very limited exceptions the law will protect the original owner. The purchaser - in this case the dealer - cannot acquire a good title unless the seller had it to sell. In the same way if the car is sold on again the dealer, not having good title cannot sell it to you with good title....
I've just got my car back after a week at the main dealer. (Was given a BMW 116 courtesy car, so every cloud...) After a recent tyre change I'd noticed a lot of vibration from the steering. Two visits to the tyre place failed to solve the problem, which turned out to be not wheel alignment but damaged alloys - there were a total of about a dozen dings and flat spots . Three of the four have been replaced by the leasing company and the Ford main dealer told me this kind of damage is all too common, now that speed humps are so "popular" all over Spain, just like in the UK. I follow HJ's advice on negotiating road humps (and pretty much everything else!) and with a permanently full boot I am not one to charge about the place, road humps or not.
Road accidents, especially amongst children, in urban areas have to fall, no question. Something has to be done, and until a better idea comes along, it's the compromise, better-than-nothing answer: a simple trade off - damaged wheels, or damaged children - and we all know the answer to that one, don't we?... Thanks for the contributions! Tyre pressure has been a solid 2.5 bar (36 PSi) - tyre manufacturer's spec - since the wheel change six weeks ago, which is when I first noticed the vibrations. I don't slow right down to a crawl when "humping", but somewhere just below the reduced speed for the humped area (usually 30 km/h/18 mph.)
I probably would slow down even more if I had an automatic....
im a small time car dealer ,i sold a mondeo diesel to a customer in feb 2010.The car wasa 2002 model with 79000 miles on the clock. the purchase price was £3000
The customer took out a warranty at his own expense independant of me .After 4000 miles and three months, he says the dual mass flywheel and pressure plate fingers failed.The warranty company refused to pay out saying that his driving style had caused the problem.... Read more
I guess, Lucy, that your experience is based on complaints from the car buying public, who are equally as dishonest as the traders they buy from. So in many of the complaints you get involved with, the dealer happens to be innocent, on that particular occassion.
As I said in an earlier post, I'm sick & tired of car buyers trying it on. I've lost count of the number of PXs which were a year older than the customer told me at time of order - "log book? I haven't got it with me, can I send it in the post?" or the amount of PXs which the customer has "parked it round the corner, here are the keys" only to find out it had a couple of dents more than it had two days ago when I agreed the deal....
I'm looking to buy an 03/04 Avensis in T3-S, T4 or spirit trim levels. I much prefer the newer touchscreen sat nav instead of the old style step by step system that will be on whatever i get. Does anyone know if the new system can retrofiited ?

I think you are taking the safe option hope you have good luck.
Can't seem to find a master cylinder for the above which seems more difficult due to ABS being fitted. Ones with ABS have 2 ports and others have 4 ports. Any suggestions would be helpful - tried all the usual 'european' / Imports / sc***ies ect.

can anyone help? we have 2 puntos, 08 and 58 reg and over the last week both have had problems on a 2 mile stretch of motorway with the car suddenly lurching, revs drop, then the speedo drops quickly to zero before slowly going back up. The car loses power slightly then regains it. Nothing has shown up on the computer when I took one of them in to the garage and they test drove it without problem. Both events happened where roadworks have been in place for 1 month and there are yellow overhead 'average' speed cameras. Is it interference of some sort? is it just coincidence? does anyone know what the cause is? the garage suggest it is an electrical problem but tell me they can't identify the problem. any advice much appreciated. hi im havein the same prob with mine mines 57 plate, mines doin it alot tho, just picked it up from fiat dealers still the same, have u found out anymore thanx.............. i dont think mine got nowt 2 do with speed cameras or anything like that.......... stressed out ere xxxx

I think you're right, if your short journeys mean the oil never really warms up properly, a 30 should be better than a 40. However, the only way to decide is stick it in and see, listen to the engine and feel if it seems better or worse. All engines are different, oils are different.
You may find a 40's better first time you go over ten miles on the motorway. I once tried 5-30 in my Probe, which is what Ford recommend, but soon went back to 5-40, it just felt better. 100000 miles later I guess I was right and Ford were wrong....
