Hi,
I had the ECU on my citroen fail a couple of weeks ago. The garage I took it to did a repair on it which they told me it was a semi-to-permament repair. I didn't want to fit a new one (at at cost of £1,000). A week later my car has broken down again outside another garage who is looking into it. I've been told that the ECU has failed and will almost definitely need a new one.... Read more

One of the guiding principles of law is that it is almost impossible to develop good title. Hence If the top end dealer bought a stolen car and they sold it on to you the law has to decide whether to protect the original owner (or their insurer if the claim has been settled) or you as the honest purchaser.
With very limited exceptions the law will protect the original owner. The purchaser - in this case the dealer - cannot acquire a good title unless the seller had it to sell. In the same way if the car is sold on again the dealer, not having good title cannot sell it to you with good title....
I've just got my car back after a week at the main dealer. (Was given a BMW 116 courtesy car, so every cloud...) After a recent tyre change I'd noticed a lot of vibration from the steering. Two visits to the tyre place failed to solve the problem, which turned out to be not wheel alignment but damaged alloys - there were a total of about a dozen dings and flat spots . Three of the four have been replaced by the leasing company and the Ford main dealer told me this kind of damage is all too common, now that speed humps are so "popular" all over Spain, just like in the UK. I follow HJ's advice on negotiating road humps (and pretty much everything else!) and with a permanently full boot I am not one to charge about the place, road humps or not.
Road accidents, especially amongst children, in urban areas have to fall, no question. Something has to be done, and until a better idea comes along, it's the compromise, better-than-nothing answer: a simple trade off - damaged wheels, or damaged children - and we all know the answer to that one, don't we?... Thanks for the contributions! Tyre pressure has been a solid 2.5 bar (36 PSi) - tyre manufacturer's spec - since the wheel change six weeks ago, which is when I first noticed the vibrations. I don't slow right down to a crawl when "humping", but somewhere just below the reduced speed for the humped area (usually 30 km/h/18 mph.)
I probably would slow down even more if I had an automatic....
im a small time car dealer ,i sold a mondeo diesel to a customer in feb 2010.The car wasa 2002 model with 79000 miles on the clock. the purchase price was £3000
The customer took out a warranty at his own expense independant of me .After 4000 miles and three months, he says the dual mass flywheel and pressure plate fingers failed. The warranty company refused to pay out saying that his driving style had caused the problem.... Read more
I guess, Lucy, that your experience is based on complaints from the car buying public, who are equally as dishonest as the traders they buy from. So in many of the complaints you get involved with, the dealer happens to be innocent, on that particular occassion.
As I said in an earlier post, I'm sick & tired of car buyers trying it on. I've lost count of the number of PXs which were a year older than the customer told me at time of order - "log book? I haven't got it with me, can I send it in the post?" or the amount of PXs which the customer has "parked it round the corner, here are the keys" only to find out it had a couple of dents more than it had two days ago when I agreed the deal....
I'm looking to buy an 03/04 Avensis in T3-S, T4 or spirit trim levels. I much prefer the newer touchscreen sat nav instead of the old style step by step system that will be on whatever i get. Does anyone know if the new system can retrofiited ?

I think you are taking the safe option hope you have good luck.
Can't seem to find a master cylinder for the above which seems more difficult due to ABS being fitted. Ones with ABS have 2 ports and others have 4 ports. Any suggestions would be helpful - tried all the usual 'european' / Imports / sc***ies ect.
thanks... Read more
can anyone help? we have 2 puntos, 08 and 58 reg and over the last week both have had problems on a 2 mile stretch of motorway with the car suddenly lurching, revs drop, then the speedo drops quickly to zero before slowly going back up. The car loses power slightly then regains it. Nothing has shown up on the computer when I took one of them in to the garage and they test drove it without problem. Both events happened where roadworks have been in place for 1 month and there are yellow overhead 'average' speed cameras. Is it interference of some sort? is it just coincidence? does anyone know what the cause is? the garage suggest it is an electrical problem but tell me they can't identify the problem. any advice much appreciated. The water pump on my 2.2 petrol Vectra C 2003 model was replaced by my local Vauxhall dealer at 56,000 miles due to a water leak. The first replacement was noisy - a high pitched sound when revving the engine and driving. When I complained, there was no problem in having another pump fitted at no extra charge as the new part was diagnosed as faulty. But the second new pump is noisy, too - but not as much as the first replacement - and when I queried it I was told that this sometimes happens and it's nothing to worry about. Should a new water pump be noisy - I know it's chain driven, but the original wasn't - so shouldn't a new pump be quiet? Read more

The chances are you were caught for a camera enforceable offence around 2001 and had not kept your address up to date. A Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) would have been sent along with a request for information to identify the driver. After a month a further request would heve been sent and if that did not get a response they would normally summons you under Section 172 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 for failing to furnish them with information, an offence that at the time carried 3 points. Again had you failed to respond it is possible you could have been found guilty in your absence and penalty points would have been incurred.
The DVLA would have continued to write to you eventually stating that if your licence was not surrendered they would revoke it. They normally will not revoke it immediately - you get a year before they do so. Had you renewed or updated your licence within this time the points would have been applied when it was returned to you and that would be the end of it....
