I am staggered! Skoda want my car for a whole day to replace a single front indicator bulb. They tell me that the bumper, grille and the relevant headlight have to be removed first. It may be under warranty but this is plain madness.
What's that going to cost when out of warranty? Nice little earner for Skoda and their dealers. Read more

I am considering purchasing a 2 or 3 year old laguna, I need a nice frugal engine. I once owned a clio 1.5 and it was great, but need a family car which will provide space and return a decent MPG. Can anyone advise on the real life MPG to a nearness? and any pro's or cons to the car? Thanks Read more
a900ss - thanks I totally get what you are saying. I will go and test drive one. I too have had a 1.9 passat estate and it was great to drive and fairly economical, but that was a company car back then a few years ago. I am going to get a test drive of one of the lagunas and see what's what. I currently drive a mazda 3 1.6 petrol and find it a bit sluggish and only 34MPG - but if you drop down a gear and accelerate it will pick up a bit and can get there, just not as quick as I'd like. HOwever the trade in or sell for the laguna is the MX5, sad to see it go, but just very unpractical esp with children, and the icy weather coming in.
Thanks for your post, will keep up to date wth my progress, in case anyone else wants to know :) I'd be much happier with a diesel 50+ MPG.
Hello.I have a 2005 vauxhall astra van 1.7 cdti(astra G). This morning i started it and i noticed it hesitated to start but just put it down to a cold morning and off i went. Before i got out of my estate the engine management light came on so i stopped, then i noticed the lights dipping as the indicators were flashing. Then the airbag and abs light came on and the dials on the dash started going crazy (like window wipers!). Also when i revved it slighty splutterd then revved fine. So i thought better get this to a garage, so turned off all electrics (lights, radio, etc) which sorted out the crazy dials. As i set off i discovered the power steering wasn't working either but after a few miles started working again and the interior clock was back upto full illumination. The management, abs and airbag lights remained on but engine running fine. can anyone help please, be much appreciated!! thanks alot Read more

Hi I have a 2000 X reg Shogun LWB which sometimes kicks out plumes of black smoke when ticking over - so bad that pedestrians knocked on the window & told my wife the car is on fire on one occasion!
The car has only done 90,000 is well serviced & normally it doesn't smoke at all - at any engine speed but when this happens there is a 'clunk' from under the bonnet and the engine note drops a bit just beforehand. ... Read more
EGR valve sticking mine used to do it until I blanked it off problem solved
Hello
I have a vauxhall combo which I have inherited off my parents. The factory radio was dead, I assumed a loose wire or something so I removed it to replace it with my Alpine from my previous van. All plugged in and still nothing. I have check all fuses and they are fine. The loom which reaches to the back of the radio all looks good. Any ideas where I go from here? Read more
With the ignition switched on you need 12v between yellow and black and red and black if you haven't the radio will not work if you have then the iso on your radio is wired incorrectly for the loom on the car.
ive just brougt a 1999 1.6 16v vauxhall zafira and have no idea what oil i need to get im hoping someone will be ble to tell me Read more
10w/40 semi synth.
As already mentioned, use Vauxhall's 'own brand' oil.
When hot, the coolant level in the header tank of our 58 plate 09 model year Corsa 1.3 ecoflex goes down ( I would expect it to expand when hot). When cold again, if pressure cap is removed, then level rises again (sometimes air can be seen bubbling up from pipe joining tank to radiator).

"bubbling up" does sound like headgasket.
But the engineer suggested egr, which could be a much smaller problem, it could just be the egr gasket. Try tightening the egr bolts a bit, only lightly. Fingers crossed.
I have a mini cooper 06 which has done about 27K miles.
Last month the coolant started leaking and recently BMW found the thermostat + thermostat housing was at fault. This was replaced by BMW and the coolant level on the day was topped up to max. It has only been a week since all this and already the coolant level has dropped to minimum! There is no obvious signs of a leak and there is no coolant leak on the floor (as there was originally with the leak before the thermostat was replaced). The car has been booked back in with BMW but there is a 2 week wait. Please help! Read more
Sounds like the system level may have dropped due to air lock from when the repair was done which is quite normal and can be topped up with water. If continues to drop in level then possibly is a prob but I would keep eye on it and see how it go's.
Hi there,
I have four kids aged between 6 and 11 and am in the market for a three or four year old 7 seater and have a budget up to about £10,000 (preferably less). I have owned a 2003 Chrysler Grand Voyager (from new) and a 1997 Renault Espace (current car). I am considering:... Read more
Might have misslead slightly - not sure if the SE is still the top spec which my post assumed.

Buster, I think you'll be doing well to have the bulb replaced under warranty and am pleased to see they're doing it. I asked my local dealer who advised that bulbs are consumable and not covered by warranty (tyres, exhaust, wiper blades etc..). So I'm not surprised to hear bulbs aren't covered and whilst I haven't looked at the T&C's would be very confident it's in there and the dealer's quite correct.
The dealer hadn't done one yet so didn't have first hand knowledge but agreed it looked like a bumper off job and said whilst there would be a charge it wouldn't be the full hourly rate and even it it took several hours the charge would be more concessionary rather than actually reflecting the full cost of removing and replacing bumper, headlight, re-aligning beam etc....
