How do I disconnect the wiring on the fuel filter to be able to unscrew it, also is there a special tool to grip the filter to unscrew it? It has a bracket very close to it making it difficult to get a normal oil filter strap on it. Read more
My 2 year old golf suddenly caught fire in my drive on returning from my local town. I barely had time to rescue my dog from the back before the car burst into flames. I called the fire brigade but by this time the vehicle was a burnt out wreck.
Because the exact cause can't be proven due to severe fire damage Volkswagen are refusing to replace the car. The overwhelming cause is likely to be a mechanical fault (according to insurance engineer) and therefore VW should honour their warranty (I am a previous owner of 8 VW's).... Read more
Awful thing to happen. Are you with the AA/RAC and if so have you the legal aid? A mate has an 8 year Tiguan diesel which had an major engine problem and VW did the work gratis...came to over 3K. Citizens advice may be able to help, they can get you a solicitors appointment for peanuts. Your own insurance should sort it out and hopefully you have a courtesy car with your policy.
Hopefully all sorted out now after 9 years! LOL

OK, the dash is showing 'ESP SYSTEM FAULT' and the ABS is not working. I've tried reading fault codes using Gendan Engine Check but it reports no fault codes found. Any ideas as to how I can find out what the fault is? Can anyone recommend a better tool for reading Ford fault codes, for instance?

Have just been informed that there's a known design fault on these focus' where the cylinder head temperature sensor wire touches an HT lead and causes a spike which in turn causes the needles on the dash to jump.
Sounds like this could be my problem.
Hi, we have an 03 reg Nissan X-Trail with the YD22DDTi engine (Diesel 2.2). About a week or two ago it began displaying both the ABS warning light and the 4WD warning light on the dash. There is also a pecular faint humming sound (like a small motor) which appears (under bonnet) when the ignition key is in the 3rd position (Acc On -ie. the one before start). the engine is started, the sound cannot be heard - although this may be down to engine noise overpowering it rather than the noise expiring.
Does anyone know of any fault codes displayed on the dash like this on X-Trails?... Read more

Please can you help, i lost my car key a couple of weeks back and stupidly it was my only one, so on monday afternoon i managed to get it towed to the garage where i had a new key waiting, on arrival i was told it would take around 30 minutes to reprogramme, after about an hour an half i was sent away as it wouldnt work, and told they would try again tomorrow, the following evening i was called by the garage to be told they needed to order a coil to override the immobiliser or something along those lines at an extra 20 pound, on the wednesday they rang and told me the coil wouldnt work and theyd order a new key just in case the other was faulty which didnt work either, on the thursaday i spoek to them and they told me it was the wiring and my car needed rewiring at a charge of 100 pound plus vat, which eventually i agreed to, so friday came and the garage rang me 1 minute before it shut and told me the rewiring hadnt worked and my computer needed a new ecu at a cost of 800 quid and the 160 pound for the work they had already completed which hadnt fixed my car so i dont agree i should have to pay this, theres no way i can afford 960 pound and the car is only worth 1500 roughly, please could you help me on where i stand i what action i should take next, when my car went to the garage it was worlking perfectly fine all that was wrong was id lost my key. Hi, I'm brand new to the forum and have a couple of questions about changing the Timing Belt (Cambelt) on a 2001 (Gen 1) Honda CR-V. Firstly, does anyone know of any common problems with doing this? I am a competent DIY mechanic but have not done a timing belt before. The next question is a bit strange, but is the crankshaft bolt left or right-hand threaded? Just wanted to check as it's probably going to be difficult to get out - so it isn't going to help if I am cranking in the wrong direction ;-)
I have a genuine Honda workshop manual, but I would be grateful for any tips/hints that anyone has about doing this job on this vehicle. I am planning on documenting this job in case it is of use to anyone else - I have done this sort of thing before, so the final product should look something like this:... Read more
I too have an 01 crv and had it changed at 7 years old even though the mileage was only about 50k. My local indie did it for me and it needed an airgun to undo the crankshaft nut so not really a diy job in my opinion. I bought the belt and tensioner plus all 3 auxiliary belts from a Honda dealership as these are a pain to change without undoing the nearside engine mount and slightly raising the engine.
If I recall it cost me around £300 in total including his labour charge, so not what I'd call extortionate. If you plan on doing it yourself, have a look round www.hondasuv.com; they're a friendly bunch based in the US but there's loads of info on their site. Good luck.
