My parents currently own a 1999 Fiat Palio Weekend estate which they bought in 2003. Need suggestions for a new car that will seat the 3 of us plus shopping and if needed can carry 2 more passengers plus their luggage. And have room to carry tall people if needed. Also a car that is easy for us to get in and out of since I have Spina Bifida and have balance problems and my dad who is getting close to 70 years old and has occasional hip problems. My dad says that he does not want a car that has too much glass like those cars with the big windscreen that goes up past the roof and a panoramic roof. Budget is between 7-15k. I have narrowed it down to these cars. Which one of these cars fits our criteria?

I have just got a VW touran 2005 20L TDI 72000miles, on the way back from the garage where I bought the car the turbo stopped working on the motorway and the car struggled to get to 70MPH. As I was close to home I called in to a local garage for them to have a look, they plugged it in to a machine and 3 faults where listed, 16618 P0234 000 turbo/super charget overboost condition control limit exceeded, 17055 P0671 000 cylinder 1 glow plug circuit-Q10 electrical fault and 18104 P1696 000 powertrian databus implausible signal from steering column electronic sporadic. The garage said that the turbo was on its way out (I did notice some smoke under hard acceleration) but the car has not done this again since and all seems ok, there is a three month warranty with the car so I need to get to the bottom of it asap so I can have it fixed on warranty.
Is there any way I test for the problems indicated by the fault codes and make the car go into the fault to prove there is a problem? (the garage rest the faults) Read more

How do I disconnect the wiring on the fuel filter to be able to unscrew it, also is there a special tool to grip the filter to unscrew it? It has a bracket very close to it making it difficult to get a normal oil filter strap on it. Read more
I've recently done this job on my 05 L200 2,5 diesel Trojan.
Follow the two water sensor wires from the filter and you will find a small plug/socket connector fixed to the bracket which holds the filter. Trip the latch which holds the plug into the socket and pull the plug out of the socket....
My 2 year old golf suddenly caught fire in my drive on returning from my local town. I barely had time to rescue my dog from the back before the car burst into flames. I called the fire brigade but by this time the vehicle was a burnt out wreck.
Because the exact cause can't be proven due to severe fire damage Volkswagen are refusing to replace the car. The overwhelming cause is likely to be a mechanical fault (according to insurance engineer) and therefore VW should honour their warranty (I am a previous owner of 8 VW's).... Read more
Awful thing to happen. Are you with the AA/RAC and if so have you the legal aid? A mate has an 8 year Tiguan diesel which had an major engine problem and VW did the work gratis...came to over 3K. Citizens advice may be able to help, they can get you a solicitors appointment for peanuts. Your own insurance should sort it out and hopefully you have a courtesy car with your policy.
Hopefully all sorted out now after 9 years! LOL
Hi,
can anyone tell me where the diagostic socket is on a Ford Focus II (07) 1.6TDCI so I can plug my OBDII lead?... Read more
OK, the dash is showing 'ESP SYSTEM FAULT' and the ABS is not working. I've tried reading fault codes using Gendan Engine Check but it reports no fault codes found. Any ideas as to how I can find out what the fault is? Can anyone recommend a better tool for reading Ford fault codes, for instance?
Hi,
Just registered as there seems to be some hugely knowledgeable forum members on here.... Read more
Have just been informed that there's a known design fault on these focus' where the cylinder head temperature sensor wire touches an HT lead and causes a spike which in turn causes the needles on the dash to jump.
Sounds like this could be my problem.
Hi, we have an 03 reg Nissan X-Trail with the YD22DDTi engine (Diesel 2.2). About a week or two ago it began displaying both the ABS warning light and the 4WD warning light on the dash. There is also a pecular faint humming sound (like a small motor) which appears (under bonnet) when the ignition key is in the 3rd position (Acc On -ie. the one before start). the engine is started, the sound cannot be heard - although this may be down to engine noise overpowering it rather than the noise expiring.
Does anyone know of any fault codes displayed on the dash like this on X-Trails?... Read more

Please can you help, i lost my car key a couple of weeks back and stupidly it was my only one, so on monday afternoon i managed to get it towed to the garage where i had a new key waiting, on arrival i was told it would take around 30 minutes to reprogramme, after about an hour an half i was sent away as it wouldnt work, and told they would try again tomorrow, the following evening i was called by the garage to be told they needed to order a coil to override the immobiliser or something along those lines at an extra 20 pound, on the wednesday they rang and told me the coil wouldnt work and theyd order a new key just in case the other was faulty which didnt work either, on the thursaday i spoek to them and they told me it was the wiring and my car needed rewiring at a charge of 100 pound plus vat, which eventually i agreed to, so friday came and the garage rang me 1 minute before it shut and told me the rewiring hadnt worked and my computer needed a new ecu at a cost of 800 quid and the 160 pound for the work they had already completed which hadnt fixed my car so i dont agree i should have to pay this, theres no way i can afford 960 pound and the car is only worth 1500 roughly, please could you help me on where i stand i what action i should take next, when my car went to the garage it was worlking perfectly fine all that was wrong was id lost my key. Hello check with Citroen why they cant code the new key in if everhing was working fine before.
I recently returned a courtesy car to an insurer approved garage in Wembley. We sorted out my car but then went to check over the cortesy car and found 1 scraped alloy and a neat 6 inch scratch on the passenger front wing that I diodn't recollect seeing before. I kicked myself because I hadn't made my own check prior to walking in, however the eagerness with which they handled this, the practised way that they told me it had happened while the car was "in my care" and the way that they were able to give me a quote off an almost identical recent occurrence left me feeling I may have been scammed. I guess they get a few damaged courtesy cars back all the time and the scenario of one of their staff nipping outside to scratch the car while I'm in the office doing the paperwork seems almost ridiculously paranoid on my part, but I have a real nagging doubt about this incident. I checked on google but dont see anyone else reporting the same sort of thing, normally they say the drop the car off and the garage phones them later on saying they found the scratch dent etc. These guys went through a joint inspection with me so am I just being ridiculously paranoid, or has anyone else seen this sort of thing before?
There is a well-known car rental company - used by a lot of insurers - which does this all the time. It's an income stream.
They never repair the "damage", the car is sold after its 1 year stint. Often several people in a row will be accused/charged for the same damage. The amount they demand is out of all proportion to their cost - they never repair it and the effect on the value of the vehicle is minimimal....
Thank goodness that's over, more red herrings than an Agatha Christie whodunit!
