My power steering recently failed right on top of the mot. The garage informed me that the steering column might need replacement, or the electric motor and ECU. That cost would be at least £250 for a refurbished electric motor.

Fitlike all? Picked up my ix35 awd Premium in black 2 weeks ago. Well worth the wait. How about you? Apart form door sensors not working. Great car. So mutch better than the Tucson and that was a good car. Would like to hear from any ix35 drivers how you are getting on . Graham, in Bonnie Scotland.

Graham, I understand that its been quite a while since your original posting, however I have recently purchased the new Hyundai IX35 1.7 CRDi premium model. I am having issues using the call command as it says it is not recognised. Can you please advise me if your model allows you to push the speech button, then say call, then an entry from your phones address book. Have tried connecting 3 different models of phone however they all have the same fault. Hyundai say all new ix35's and sanra fe's will not allow the "call" command to work. Thanks in advance. Gordon from Scotland.

=============
I bought Polo 56 plate Polo a year ago. It only had 8k on the clock, so it was as good as new (so I thought). Not having owned a 'modern' car before, I wasn't used to all the electronic management systems and wasn't surprised by the intermittent whirring noise from the engine compartment. However (it's my wife's car) when I got a call to say the battery was flat, I started to wonder. Knowing that it probably wouldn't be a dud battery, more likely a combination of the exterme cold weather we had last winter and short journeys with everything switched on, I jump started it and hoped for the best.
Replaced the battery to make sure, but a couple of week's later the same thing occurred. Decided it was something to do with this whirring noise and took it to 2 local garages specialising in VWs, an auto electrician and finally a VW dealer. None could identify the source of the problem or diagnose any fault and guess what, the whirring noise never occured at any of the 4 garages. However I did identify that the noise came from the throttle body and whilst it is supposed to do something when switching the ignition on and off, this does it every 2 mins and drains the battery if left for more than a day. It has been suggested that I get the throttle body replaced , costing nearly £500, but there is no guarantee this will cure the fault. The guy that gave me this info reckioned it was a common fault with Golfs and Polos and it wasa defect with the internal wiring of the throttle body. None of the other garages had come across it.
Any body had this experience, or any suggestions.
Regards

I gather that was the case. The best the VW dealer could offer was a possible 10% rebate of the cost of the repair, from VW, as a good will gesture, but as the car had not been serviced by VAG dealers they doubted they would honour that.
Thanks for your comments

True, can't argue with any of that - but locking a thread after say two years wouldn't stop someone searching and finding useful information and they could still link to it. What it would most likely do however is reduce the amount of spam this site attracts. Usually when an old thread is retrieved from the depths of the ocean it is to post spam, which may or may not be the case in this thread.
I strongly suspect the OP's car is scrapped now, one hardly ever sees a MK2 Laguna on the roads now. The early models will be twenty years old, that's a bit depressing, I was at the dealer launch!
I am looking for assistance with my 2006 Focus 1.6TDCI LX (110). I have only had it for a couple of months and bought it off a dealer near to where i live, it has done around 65k miles. I have a couple of issues and dont appear to be getting anywhere with my local ford specialists and therefore am seeking further assistance. The first problem is that the engine has recently started cutting out without warning when the engine is at low revs or in idle. I have taken it to a mechanic who can not find error codes or particular problems with the vehicle. I have done extensive research on this problem and this seems to be a very wide problem. The second issue is that despite the book figures of average MPG of 60, and other people's review figures of around 55 MPG average, i am only averaging around 40MPG and i mainly do long journeys. I look forward to your reply. Read more

Just wondering if you found out what the problem was with your car?...
Hello
In my naviety I'd always presumed when buying a used car, that one would pay the price marked on the windscreen, with the exception of possibly road tax etc.... Read more
I believe a business cannot reclaim the VAT on new cars and the purchase cost is offset against tax over a number of years. This helped bring about the trend towards leasing and contract hire. On the monthly payments VAT can be fully reclaimed and the costs are fully tax allowable. Tax is always changing so if there is an accountant reading this please enlighten everybody!

Hi,
Thanks for your very informative reply. So do you still need 2 spare keys to easily code /make a third?...
The dash display providing details such as av speed, mpg, distance to empty, etc has change from English to German(?) although still using MPG. Any ideas of how to return it to English? It is a UK car, not import.

My fiesta's done 108,000 miles and has been a very reliable car - recently its been having some starting issues in that it will sometimes happily start as normal - but other times will fail to start completely.
Seems to randomly decide if its going to or not. When it doesn't start no amount of cranking or re-trying will help, but if it is push started even in 1st at about 5mph the engine roars into life the second i release the clutch! This used to happen maybe 1 in 10 times I started the car but its more like every other time now. When the engine has been recently run (less than 1 hour ago) it also happens albeit less frequently.... Read more
If your compression readings had stayed the same after adding oil to combustion chamber it would have pointed towards worn/burnt-out/sticking valves or head gasket, but because they have doubled you have your answer....piston rings!
Hello there,

I have a 2.0T Se Auto with winter pack on an 05 plate. After 63K it still drives like new. I have only had one fault, a clunk from the near side lower wishbone (i think). The dealer said it was not dangerous but i had it done under my Warranty Direct Policy. Dealer is great btw.
Supreme comfort front seats are the best in the world, well the best i could find in my search!
Superb sound system, engine and auto box brilliant. Handling Ok, not an
"involving" drive on twisty bits.
Lots of gadgets. Feels very solid. Leather beautiful. Great motorway cruiser.
I get 33mpg but drive gently.
Worst thing for me is the ride, on 17" wheels it crashes over even tiny potholes and i mean crashes. You need the padded seat to cushion the spine.
I have the Michelins which help a bit. Not sure how they could engineer it to be that bad. A mondeo of that age will put it to shame.
Still, after 4 years, do not regret buying it.
In early 2006 Volvo were selling dozens at about half original price say £14 to £15K. They had been on short term leases. I would think many of these will be traded in and should now be bargains.
hello,I have had the same problem and have got the motor out and the printed circuit board out, there are some very small parts on the reverse but none of the numbers bring up anything on googlecan you help to identify the relays? Thanks Copsan
