No, I only use the ignition key on its own. I take all the other keys/photos etc off that my wife puts on and leave them in the door pocket. Big bunches of keys really annoy me in my pocket!

hi, i was woundering if anyone could give me some advice on how much it is possabliy going to cost to change a timing belt on a 05 renault megan 1.9 dci. It hasnt broken but is due to have it changed at its next service ( about 4000 miles ). The dealership wants to charge us almost £500 but think this seems a bit steep. Any advice would be great,

With those sort of prices you have a good point.

I have decided to buy a MPV, or largish estate car, which must seat 3 child seats across the back seats...

It's our 2nd car behind the Galaxy, so we're looking at a budget of up to £3500, and the normal Picassos, Scenics, Multiplas etc are our target. Amazingly the earlier Zafira only has a lap belt in the middle rear seat, so is not suitable!... Read more

I agree. After cursory steps into looking for cars to go and view, and hopefully buy one. I have realised I am either far more of a skinflint than I thought I was or supply in this neck of the woods has dropped off a cliff and as such prices have gone up. I'll not be changing for a while now.

Hello Knowledgeable Ones

Today I took my Vectra 1.8VVT (Z1.8XER engine) to the local Opel dealership in Cyprus for a service. They have told me that the cam belt needs to be replaced at the next service - 59,000 miles (now on 49,000 miles). I owned the car in England from new (Dec 2006) until November 2009, and has been in Cyprus ever since. Opel dealer also suggests oil changes (GM approved fully synthetic oil) every 5000 miles. My service book recommends oil changes every 20,000 miles / 1 year, and a cam belt change every 100,000 miles / 10 years. Will the warmer, dustier and drier climate really have an impact on the life of a cam belt? And if so, how much of an impact? Or is the Opel dealership just feeling the recession?... Read more

It may be warm a dry in Cyprus but it also has very high humidity at night which will combined with the other conditions make it a lot different from the UK.Surely there is an official Opel agents on the island to ask ,but it is better to be safe than sorry .

My parents currently own a 1999 Fiat Palio Weekend estate which they bought in 2003. Need suggestions for a new car that will seat the 3 of us plus shopping and if needed can carry 2 more passengers plus their luggage. And have room to carry tall people if needed. Also a car that is easy for us to get in and out of since I have Spina Bifida and have balance problems and my dad who is getting close to 70 years old and has occasional hip problems. My dad says that he does not want a car that has too much glass like those cars with the big windscreen that goes up past the roof and a panoramic roof. Budget is between 7-15k. I have narrowed it down to these cars. Which one of these cars fits our criteria?

Citroen C3/C4 Picasso... Read more

I have just got a VW touran 2005 20L TDI 72000miles, on the way back from the garage where I bought the car the turbo stopped working on the motorway and the car struggled to get to 70MPH. As I was close to home I called in to a local garage for them to have a look, they plugged it in to a machine and 3 faults where listed, 16618 P0234 000 turbo/super charget overboost condition control limit exceeded, 17055 P0671 000 cylinder 1 glow plug circuit-Q10 electrical fault and 18104 P1696 000 powertrian databus implausible signal from steering column electronic sporadic. The garage said that the turbo was on its way out (I did notice some smoke under hard acceleration) but the car has not done this again since and all seems ok, there is a three month warranty with the car so I need to get to the bottom of it asap so I can have it fixed on warranty.

Is there any way I test for the problems indicated by the fault codes and make the car go into the fault to prove there is a problem? (the garage rest the faults)

How do I disconnect the wiring on the fuel filter to be able to unscrew it, also is there a special tool to grip the filter to unscrew it? It has a bracket very close to it making it difficult to get a normal oil filter strap on it. Read more

I've recently done this job on my 05 L200 2,5 diesel Trojan.

Follow the two water sensor wires from the filter and you will find a small plug/socket connector fixed to the bracket which holds the filter. Trip the latch which holds the plug into the socket and pull the plug out of the socket....

My 2 year old golf suddenly caught fire in my drive on returning from my local town. I barely had time to rescue my dog from the back before the car burst into flames. I called the fire brigade but by this time the vehicle was a burnt out wreck.

Because the exact cause can't be proven due to severe fire damage Volkswagen are refusing to replace the car. The overwhelming cause is likely to be a mechanical fault (according to insurance engineer) and therefore VW should honour their warranty (I am a previous owner of 8 VW's).... Read more

Awful thing to happen. Are you with the AA/RAC and if so have you the legal aid? A mate has an 8 year Tiguan diesel which had an major engine problem and VW did the work gratis...came to over 3K. Citizens advice may be able to help, they can get you a solicitors appointment for peanuts. Your own insurance should sort it out and hopefully you have a courtesy car with your policy.

Hopefully all sorted out now after 9 years! LOL
