BMW 330D - BMW 330D Short Journeys - Al Civic

I have been thinking of buying a 3 series for a while. I am looking for a sub £7000 3 series diesel, either a 320d or 330d.

I am wondering if a 330d would be suitable for a 12 mile journey to work, mainly 30 mph urban roads. The journey time is usually about 25 – 30 minutes.

Would the engine be at temperature by the time I turned it off? Could I expect problems from running the engine for short low speed journeys?

What MPG could I expect under these conditions. The 330d I am currently considering is a 2003 saloon.

Should I go for a 320d instead? Any comments welcome.

Why are you so fixed on diesels? Do you do a lot of other mileage apart from your journey to work? A diesel is totally unsuitable for a 12 mile journey which doesn't exceed 30mph.

Fixated?

I fancy something quick, but efficient. 330d is quick but I don't know how efficient it would be for my type of use.

I currently have a TD and like the over taking ability 30- 70 of diesels so I would like another but looking for something that wont depreciate drastically or rust, like my mazda 6 has.
