Dear All, sorry if this posted in the wrong place I'm a bit new to this forum but can someone offer advice, would really appreciate it - my 99 Hiace 2.4D van temperature gauge stopped working, it was gradual over a few weeks, not rising too high to nothing at all. It runs fine and other gauges good so not the fuse. I changed the temperature sensor transmitter for a new one, still the same, gauge not working. I earthed the lead to the sensor briefly to check the wiring and gauge, dial flew to the top so I know the wiring and gauge is okay. Bit perplexed now. I have noticed the heating is a bit crap, never gets really hot, just luke warm - would the next step be to change the thermostat and/or coolant and squeeze tubes etc when re-filling in case of airlocks?
Any advice much appreciated.
Cheers

Hi everyone, Gap insurance is a con! Why you ask, well this is what happen to me when i claimed on my gap insurance. I brought my car 3yrs ago from a dealer for £6995 with gap insurance costing £299, but sadly the car was a a total loss a few days ago. My insurance compamy will only offer me £3100 less my access £450 (=£2650) for the car, and i thought as i was sold it by the dealer, that the Gap insurance would pay the rest, well NO they don't! They give you a market value for the car which was £4385 and pay from that price to your invoice price £4385 to £6995 (=£2610). So i ended up with only £5260. Thats down by £1735 form my purchase price of £6995. So i went back to the dealer yesterday and asked why they had miss sold me the gap insurance, which they were shocked to hear about what happened and belived that this is wrong and are helping me with my claim. So please bewere when buying Gap insurance. Read more
Just a comment, we recently bought a car at about £16,500.00, the gap insurance quotation was £300.00 for 3 years, which i thought good value, and certainly proportinally better value than you appear to have got.
we did not take it out as our insurance replaces with a new car at up to 2 years of age....

80k would have been advised but now would be best.
This is a reasonably complex situation so i'll lay it out in steps. In summary I part-exchanged my previous car for a new car from a car dealer a few weeks ago. In the process I asked for my private plate from my p/x car to be retained and filled in the relevant forms when I collected my new car and handed over my old car.
Here is the timeline of what happened from oldest date to present:... Read more
One of the exemptions from the CC is that you were not the keeper at the time of the incident.
I would consider writing back to tfl explaining that fact as you have done in the post above ^^^^^ ...

I think it may be a loose nut on the pump output pipe to the common rail. Has anyone tightened one of these in the past? It is in a really tight spot.

I've been a muppet and misfuelled my focus.
I realised after about a mile when the engine was juddery, but still going, just. I had it towed and the tank drained. I then read on tinternet how much it could cost and panicked and called my insurance company. They said they would pay out, but my no claims discount was gone. Since then it started sounding okay and is now with the garage, being sent to the ford dealer.... Read more
My TDDI died at 30K. I'd bought it second hand. Injector pump failed!
So to thousands of others nothing to do with mis fueling just a rubbish unit.

Hi all,
I have a 1998 Mk4 Ford Fiesta but have been having some trouble with handbrake efficiency. Sorry it's a long story! My MOT was due and the rear brakes were getting worn so my girlfriend's dad fitted new rear brake shoes, new pistons, a new handbrake cable and adjusted everything as best he could.
Took it for it's MOT last month and it failed on handbrake efficiency, the reason the garage gave was "you fitted a non-genuine handbrake cable, it's too short which affects handbrake efficiency".
This seemed a little odd - how can a cable being to short make the handbrake less efficient? Anyway, they cleaned and degreased the drums and it squeaked through the retest.
Unfortunatly I live in a hilly area and often have a full car which can make hill-starts rather exciting as the handbrake won't hold it. So I'd quite like to get it sorted.
Following the warning from the garage I went to the Ford garage and explained my situation, they couldn't explain how a non-genuine cable would affect efficiency and said either a cable fitted the car or it didn't.
So what could my problem be? Any suggestions on how to solve it?
Currently my handbrake travels around 8 clicks if I in a standard amount of effort - but goes to around 11-12 if I try harder. Could simply readjusting this solve my problems? Read more
The brake shoes have a automatic adjuster which is well known to be rubbish!
They wear and often don't work very well automatically, Your supposed to pump the brake pedal and they move into position but often they don't...
Time for a new thermostat and fresh coolant. Regards Peter
