Saw a really interesting story below on motoring.yell.com (I do work at Yell, but not on their websites) earlier on how much it costs to learn to drive these days - it is certainly a lot different to when I was learning about 12 years ago! I also had no idea it differed so much from region to region - who would have thought Scotland was the most expensive place to learn?! The actual article is here if anyone is interested... www.yell.com/motoring/blog/yell-com-exposes-true-c.../ Read more
Hiya, I have a 1996 Mondeo LX 1.8 petrol estate and for the first half mile or so judders like mad until it seems has warmed up a bit. Also the water temp gauge doesn't work and I cant remember the fans coming on. Could this be a fuse or the water temp sender? Cheers Joff Read more
Hiya,
did the test as you suggested and removed the lead from the sensor that I had replace on top of the thermostat housing while the engine was running. The fan immediately started. I also found the other sensor below the thermostat housing so will replace this now....
Hi My car on tick over every now and then starts to make a horrible noise which seems to be on the drive belt, its like a dry bearing, but its not happening all of the time !.
Power Steering Pump, Alternator, Air Con compresor, my gut feeling its the Air Con, because the noise gets quite loud and then something kicks in and it stops!.... Read more
Might just be the belt slipping under load & needs tensioning.
Spray some water on the belt when noisy & see if it stops making the noise.
I have read various forums about the daft indicator stalk on the vauxhall. i to am plagued with this silly system! i am led to understand that the quick 3 flashes can be inhibited - can anyone tell me how to do this? Read more
"BMW use it as well"
Not on my 5 series or my sons 3 series.
Returned to my car in Morrison car park to find that someone had scraped my rear bumper corner , and done a runner. I live in Kinross , and was hoping that someone reading this could point me in the direction of one of these mobile reapir guys. I cant afford to be without my car for days on end, but really want a reliable guy to attend to me. Any recommendations appreciated.

Update on the Perth smart repair tech. He arrived as agreed, and carried out the job for me. Took a bit longer than originally thought but the price was as agreed. I am well chuffed with the standard of the workmanship.
So , in summary , Great job at the agreed price and I can recommend him for anyone in the perth ( PH ) postcode area.

How can I remove the slave cylinder from the support bracket without the push rod being ejected? When they are fitted from new, they have a plastic restraint holding the push rod in until it sits in the cup of the release lever.
The sealed system isn't faulty and the push rod is sitting in the cup but the slave cylinder hasn't been fitted correctly to the support bracket and needs to be removed. The plastic push rod restraint is broken.
Anyone had this problem? Read more
just buy a hockey stick fuel clip & put around push-rod and insert couple of cable ties and wrap around the cylinder
Hi All
I have just got a
Nissan Almera 2000-2002 Petrol 1.5L
There are 2 vacum pipes which are dangling and not connected. This is in the area where the MAF sensor has been mounted on the inlet manifold.
Also on the bracket thats used for mounting the MAF sensor has a shiny area with empty screw holes.
Any idea as to what is the part that goes in there?
Thanks for the help in advance Read more
The vibration is coming from under the car. Very noticeable between 65-85mph, so local driving ok, just motorways are a problem. It starts to build from 65 when accelerating but gets worse when ease back to constant speed. It is a rapid uneven thudding, hard to describe. No noise, just the vibration.
Can feel it through steering wheel and gear lever though there is no movement in the steering wheel as you get when wheels are unbalanced. You can "feel" it through the front seats and any passenger in front is now picking up on it. Has gradually got worse over the last month or so.... Read more
Thanks for the info Andy.
This isn't something I would DIY. Not mechanically minded enough to even attempt it.
I'll discuss with garage when pick up car tomorrow.

I have just bought some flat wiper blades from http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/
Nice and easy to fit and so far so good, no squeaks or streaks.
Well, Saturday Mrs G and I took the Jag out, she needed to visit a store in Stevenage, got there and parked, it was very busy. Ironically, I was concerned the Jag was sticking out somewhat from a small space so I went to move it, drove around, found a unobstructed full space and parked the car perfectly.
Came back 1 hr later to this:
Yes I was very pleased the 3rd party left their details, they have been very helpful so no issues there.
Yesterday I spoke to a couple of local people who have had dealings with B.Robson, all were satisfied (and one runs a car servicing facility specialising in older cars).
So I will "go with the flow" and let BRobson repair the car and inspect very closely afterwards.
Gutted though.
A long time ago but I was taught to drive by my father (At the time a rather rare beast. Police class 1 driver.) All on normal family trips bar the first couple on handling the controls. Then a couple of lessons on passing the test by an instructor.
I'm glad to say that I still drive by the system (IAM pass after a couple of hours with observer). Perhaps not how to pass the test but tried and tested.
