Vauxhall Astra G Diesel - Dft ndicator stalk - Fartica

I have read various forums about the daft indicator stalk on the vauxhall. i to am plagued with this silly system! i am led to understand that the quick 3 flashes can be inhibited - can anyone tell me how to do this?

I've forgotten the amount of times i've driven one of the Astra's at work around a roundabout.. and then found the indicators have turned themsleves off. What a stupid, stupid system. Whoever dreamt that one up needs their backside kicked.

Probably the same bloke who thought the opaque indicator lenses were a good idea, the ones that no one could see through properly.

On a Vauxhall Astra G - Standard indicator stalks and system are used

On a Vauxhall Astra H - then the one touch type are used, as is on my Vectra

Agreed they cancel to early which is annoying, however you can get used to the operational side of them

Lane Change - Lightly press once on the indicator stalk and the indicators will flash in the selected direction 4 times.

Indicate - Press down until resistance is felt, and the indicators will flash until self cancelling OR cancelled by the driver.

To cancell, simply press the indicator in the same direction and it will turn off the indicators

This system is only on a Vauxhall Astra H - not G

Yes its a case of "why fix it, when it wasnt broke" however Vauxhall are not the only manufacturer to use this system of indicators, IIRC BMW use it as well. however Vauxhall have listened and reverted back to the tradtional system.

Yes i agree that this indcator system can be annoying but its nothing I lose sleep over.

Good for Vauxhall if they've gone back to a sensible system. BMW do indeed use the stupid system, and on SWMBO's Mini it's infected the wipers too.

Yes, you can get used to it - but why should you have to? The system on VAG cars is a model of how it should be done.

Each to his own I guess.

I went through a couple of Vectras with the "soft touch" indicators and really got on well with the system. I remember thinking "why doesn't everyone do it this way?" at the time and I really miss 'em now.

I guess you really can't please all the people all the time........
