HI PAUL. i'd have thought for your budget i'd look for both and view a couple of each then buy the best you've seen.

when we go car hunting we always have a list of 2/3 models and buy the best of what we can find. on a lower budget i find we can't always buy exactly what we planned....

I am due to go to France on Saturday. The country is currently suffering turmoil from strikers and there are fuel shortages in some regions. I can get down to the house on a tank of diesel from home in the UK but don't want to get stranded.

Given that I have a large tank of heating oil at the house could this be used in the Santa Fe in an emergency? I appreciate the tax/ customs and excise issues, I am just looking for a technical comment.... Read more

I currently have a 2000 (X) Peugeot 206 1.4 GLX and it needs a new clutch and the Cambelt replaced in the next few Months. I have been ringing around for some some Prices and F1 Autocentres have come in the Cheapest. The have said it will be £220 for the clutch and £130 for the cambelt Change.

Peugeot want £580 for both... Read more

I personally would look elsewhere. they have quite a bad reputation in my area.. I know several work collegues, and friends who have have used F1 and all without exception have received long lists of extras, often when taking the car in for something relitively minor. Try and get a recommendation for a good independant if you can.

I spend a lot of my time on the continent and will probably move to Italy within the not too distant future for work.

I have always driven a RHD car and whilst this isn't a problem for extended use it is annoying. The 'B' post, headrest and or passenger always block the view when pulling out of junctions or entring roundabouts.... Read more

Go to one of the hire companies in mainland europe and enquire about long term hire we used to do this in Germany all you need is credit card and a passport. We used to use Sixt in Germany gave us excellent rates for gauranteed 3months on going rent plus they changed the car for a new one every six weeks.

I bought a 206 on Saturday from a main SEAT dealer. I asked on 3 different times before placing a deposit whether the car had a full service history and I was told yes it did, but was told the garage had to find it in the book pack cupboard, so I thought fair enough.

However, when I got there on Saturday they had took a wallet and handbook from another 206 they have for sale and had just wrote the names down of the garages where my car was serviced.... Read more

If the deal was contingent on the service history then if it cannot be evidenced (or does not have one) you can either reject the vehicle or seek financial compensation for their failure to provide.

I've just bought an MG ZT after owning a Rover 75 for just over two years. I was planning on part-exing the Rover as part of the deal, but when I went to pick up the ZT, the dealer ran a HPI check on my Rover and it came up with "Vehicle recorded as DVLA SCRAPPED MARKER On condition alert register". No mention of Cat A/B/C/D. Now this came as quite a shock to me as I was given a clear HPI report with the car when bought over two years ago. The car has behaved impeccably and is actually the first car I ever owned that never required a breakdown call out, and I've taken it from 84-122k. Through two MOTS and several services with no unusual or worrying repirs required and bodywork is all consitent with age with no signs of respray. So the part-ex didn't happen and I now have two cars!

I contacted the DVLA today who confirmed that the car has NOT ever been scrapped, and on digging out old documents today can see that the marker was put on 3 DAYS after the dealer hpi'd it, which suggests a clerical error has been made during document transfer - but as I say, the DVLA have never recorded it as being scrapped. I am now intending to sell the car privately but first need to find out how to clear this marker, and now can't seem to find a definitive answer as to who the authority on this is. If anybody has any ideas of which direction I should take I would be very grateful as I now have 10 metres of car taking up space in what is most definitely a 'parking wars' street...! Thank you. Andy thanks for your reply.

The garage actually gave me a print out of the hpi check so they werent trying it on (well not in an obvious way anyway). They actually contacted hpi this morning and hpi spoke to the dvla and within an hour the dvla sorted it out!...
