May be worth checking the fuses in the engine bay fuse box. There is one circuit specifically for the idle control system.hth
I have a jaguar x type 03 plate 2.5 4wd, it has developed a grinding noise when turning left and right in gear (noticeable in first or second gear) it sounds like the wheel is rubbing. But I know it's not!
Has anybody experienced this problem or van anyone give me an idea of what it might be / cost?!
Thank you Read more

Hello, I went to test drive a 2005 BMW 1 Series yesterday and noticed at low speeds when shifting down (i.e. to 2nd gear to take a corner) I could feel some vibration in my foot through the clutch pedal when it was fully depressed. No obvious isues changing or engaging any gears. Not sure if I should be concerned...I put a deposit on the car!! Read more
Hello,
Bought as new December 2009, on a couple of occassions from then until now, there has been a situation in that there is a distinct "overheating" smell from both rear wheels, & they are really hot to touch, [even though the journey has only been 5 miles] it is as though the electronic brake is still 'on'...even though it is 'off' according to the light on the button.
Is it possible for this to happen??...the dealer insists there is no problems when we have taken it in for them to inspect....but, typically, the situation is not happening when we go!!!!...Peter. Read more
Its possible they are binding not caused by the motors failing too release but by the pads sticking in the calipers.
I would advise they remove and clean the pads first. Normally if the motors fail to release the handbfrake failure flashes on the dash....
Hi bought my daughter a nice little car to learn in ,one owner 60,000miles flew through mot .It starts 1st time uses no oil or water and there are no warning lights on. HELP! Im having trouble with my car, a Vaux Meriva 1.4 Breeze OHC, '05 plate.
Back in Feb one of the cams snapped! the garage replaced the following -
inlet cam
exhaust cam
timing chain
end gasket
valves
head set
oil filter
But during the last few weeks it has started to loose coolant and there is signs of water in the oil - milky mayo like build up on the oil cap. Also it has been difficult to start in the mornings.
Took it back to the garage and was sugested it could be a blown head gasket. They did the relevant tests and said that no leak was detected. Still have the same problem but now they are sugesting it could be a cracked head! Im not sure, at no point has the engine overheated or is there any loss of power/compression when driving.
What i need to know is -
Would a copression test have spotted a cracked head?
Could something have happened when they did the cam work back in Feb that could cause the head to crack?
Thanks
Andy
I have never got into these before but our 3 year old Colt is about to pass out of warranty. We have been offered 1,2 or 3 years of extended breakdopwn cover for £275, £409 or £589. The car is well looked after. Regadless whether the same deal is cheaper elsewhere, is this type of cover worthwhile or is it the same sort of poor deal you get with white goods and the like? OK taking the money but not so quick to pay out but the subjegt has been covered many times
Problems with the remote door /boot opening system. The car is Ghia x 2 litre registered in Jan 02 and the key - non remote has a blue plastic insert.
The remote does not work and I have replaced the battery and tried the turning the key in the ignition 4 times reprogramming option but it still does not work. In addition, when the car has been standing overnight and I turn the key in the drivers door lock, it will not unlock the other doors or the boot and so I cannot get into the boot until the car has 'warmed up'. Pressing the boot release on the dashboard does not work until the whole of the remote system decides to kick in. any ideas? Read more
Difficult to give an exact diagnosis without viewing the car. However central locking faults on these mondeos are usually caused by faults in the front door locking actuators (often drivers) and possibly a fault with the microswitch behind the tailgate rubber opening paddle. These problems also stop the boot release switch on the dash from working correctly. The remote key may be faulty, but this does not prevent the system working with the manual key.hth
