Hi all,

I have noticed considerable steering wheel wobble above 50mph and have had the tracking and balancing done on this. I have two entirely different types of tyre tread on each of the tyres - could this be the culprit?.......is it standard that tyres should be fitted in identical pairs and especially front ones.... Try swapping your front and rear alloys - you might just be shifting the problem from the front to the back, but it may stop the steering wheel wobble and give you some clues as to the cause.

The steering wheel wobble I experienced on my old Focus was down to a buckled alloy, which looked fine from the outside and even passed a couple of MOTs, but the flat spot was pretty severe when viewed from the inside and gave a definite bulge to the tyre, which was visible when the wheel was spun.

Hi,

My daughters handbrake got stuck on the other day and I thought that it was because of the rain we had. First gear, bang and away she goes. Today, same thing after driving to the end of the road. She tried to reverse and it's stuck again.....and then again....Any ideas?... Read more

Wish they had camera's when I was young ! Thats a good idea. And I know what you mean about the springs flying around.Whoever invented those Drum Brakes must have disliked fingers !
I occasionally fix cars at work for the lads, they cant believe how a Thirty minute job would have cost them ££££'s at the Dealers.
Even an oil change nowadays is £40-£50 with a filter. Unless you DIY !
Good Luck - Mick.

I am driving a UK registered car back from Spain to sell it in the UK, but will have to drive it from Dover to London without MOT and tax, as cannot get the MOT and tax until get home to London. It is currently SORN as been in Spain for 2 yrs. It is insured in Spain, which also includes some UK driving. I am concerned about driving from the ferry to London without Tax and MOT, and can't get the tax until I have the MOT. Read more

I think that you run a very good chance of being done on ANPR cameras when back in the UK. Is it possible to obtain a set of Spanish plates ( and appropriate insurance documentation) without going thro the full Spanish registration process? That would allow you passage in the UK - probably iffy but would reduce the likelihood of being picked up automatically.

Hi has anyone bought a car from Kevin Mackenzie Cars or know anything about them?

They are based in Iver Heath in Buckinghamshire. I am thinking about buying a car from them that they have advertised in Autotrader.

Why I am in doubt is because within the ad of the car he was advertised as a Trade seller but there was no email facility or website - just a landline and mobile number. When I called he said I can view the car at their house - they don't actually have a garage - if they did the car would be a few grand more. While it is quite a good price I wouldn't say it is a bargain - I am interested in it as it has the options I've been looking for.

This may be totally legitimate way of keeping costs down but I'm not sure. Is this legitimate practice or something I should steer clear of? Any help greatly appreciated.

“Honestly if you think car dealers are liars try customers.” True, very true. I’ve never seen as much dishonesty as I did when selling cars. From pensioners to millionaires and skint students every one of them will lie and fiddle to save a few quid. The law protects the customer but take a customer at face value and take their “in perfect working order with no faults” car in part exchange that later turns out to be absolutely knackered and you’ve no comeback. I always properly assessed cars offered to me and most were hiding something their owners wanted to sneak past me. From outstanding finance to missing service books on car with supposed full histories to major gearbox and engine faults. You’d be amazed by the dishonesty of Joe Public., I’m not saying the trade aren’t often at fault but in any car deal I’ve done I was always the honest party.

So true...I saw some blatant scams perpetrated or attempted by joe public when I was in the trade..in both service and sales depts...amazing what they came up with sometimes.

Does T-cut "go off"?

I have found an old can in the garage, but it does't seem to have any 'cutting effect'.... Read more

This is for solid paint only. Not metallic because it will take the lacquer off. Also many solid coulours, perticularly red, are now lacquer coated (VAG's reds have been for 12 years) to protect them from losing pigment, so T-Cut should not be used on them.

Mazda6

About 2 years ago my Mazda 6 started idling very roughly when started from cold and also had a fairly loud knock. Once it's warm it ran OK but lacked the usual power. My mechanic referred me to a diesel specialist who stripped out the injectors and tested them. He said the nozzles had seized because of bad fuel. I live in a border county and re-fill at the same station. He cleaned the nozzles and the car ran OK for about 6 months then started giving problems again. I took it back to the same diesel specialist who replaced the nozzles on the injectors. After that it ran OK for over a year but has started giving the same problem again.

I took it to a different mechanic and didn't tell him about the history. He investigated and also said the problem was with the injectors. He rang another diesel specialist who told him the Mazda 6 probably has denso injectors which can't be repair/reconditioned and will have to be replaced.

Has anyone had a similar experience with a Mazda 6 or know anything about denso injectors?

Hi please can some one help me i am at breaking point
I have a chrysler grand voyager 2.5crd lx 2002 on a 51 reg, the car starts perfectly no trouble but when driving along without any warning just dies on me ????
This could be 10 miles from home to 100 miles away from home it just so unpredictable as it happens without any notice, i think this is extremely dangerous as if i was on the motor way my car just stops dead without any notice
I tried a new fuel filter but the same kept happening i had it towed to a garage where they put the machine on a diagnostic machine - everything came back fine?? Although the mechanic could hear the tank kicking in he said that the fuel pressure was low- later found out this was due to a crack in the fuel filter housing and leaking, got this changed with a brand new hosuing unit but still no joy
We have had a new fuel pump (the one underneath the car next to the tank) fitted drove perfect for a day seemed to have more power then 10 minutes from home the following day the same happened again :(
my husband says when it breaks down it always seems as if the car is out of fuel (diesel) although we never let the car get below a quarter of a tank.

When the car breaks down it gives u no warning what so ever and can take from 10mins to an hour to get the car started again
Please help with any suggestions cos i really am at breaking point
many thanks Read more

My suspect would be the Crank Angle Sensor.

It going open circuit from say heat will kill any signal that the engine is actually turning over....

Hi I bought a 56 Mazda6 2.0D sakata last week from a garage who also changed the oil and filter and now the dpf light is flashing. The previous owner had it as a company car and did over 25k a year and i also drive mainly motorway miles and over 2000rpm and since ive had it the oil level has actually come down slightly and is below full so no problem with oil level and no power loss. I think the problem is the DPF wasnt reset after the service which was Mazda said aswell but they said they wont reset it unless i get an oil filter change aswell which will cost £170, rip off. What should I do? Can it be reset from an independant garage? What if i leave it until my next service? I dont check my oil level once a week, I check it twice a day.

Hi,toyota dealer techy here, i did some home work and found some disturbing pics about DPF info, clogged pick up strainers etc etc.

We sold a car from our dealership, serviced it, couple days later the light came on, i pluged my own personel snap on scanner in, and there is no facilty even with 10.4 software which has just been released to reset the DPF light....
