I was checking the oil yesterday when I noticed my Micra had two Bosch horns, each wired into its own circuit. Judging by the wiring they were standard equipment.
Is this because of some obscure Japanese construction and use regulations?... Read more

Could anybody explain in English how to check the timing of a Lucas CAV injection pump on a 2.5 U25/661 [CRD93 ] 1991 diesel engine.
I have read a couple of manuals but just do not understand them.... Read more
I'd second that reckoning. Have done the same myself on similar era Citroen and Renault diesel cars.
My mum has a 2002 Clio 1.2 which has developed a starting problem.
Sometimes when you turn the key the lights all come on but the car does nothing else. Sometimes it starts to turn over but then it stops even though the key is still in the start position. It seems that the immobiliser light is on constantly at first but then goes off briefly when it stops turning over.... Read more

Thanks for your help Victorbox. I've passed your own query on to the developer: I too find software a complete mystery sometimes!
The handbrake warning light on my 2001 Punto intermittantly comes one whilst driving. This tends to happen particularly whilst going up or down hills, but can come on randomly whilst in motion.
I'm confident that the handbrake is not actually being applied, so I'm assuming this to be electrical issue. I would appreciate it if anybody could offer any advice.... Read more
Agree, it`s likely the brake fluid - if it comes on going up and down hills. Mk2 & Mk2b don`t have pad sensors.
If you have trouble filling it up to the correct level - there *may* be an internal `screen` - a sort of fine mesh in the filler `neck` of the fluid container - that sometimes makes it difficult to get the fluid in due to air lock. Just persist or lift it up slightly while still pouring the new fluid through it....
1 litre of Mobil 1 ESP is just £8.50 at the moment. Compared to what I used to pay this is a bargain - the cheapest I ever found it was at the Skoda dealer and they wanted £12.
5 litres is £32.... Read more

Hi
I've seen a basic 1.8 VVTi Colour Collection 05 plate Avensis that's done 70k for £4350. It has all but the last service, although the last service was probably done by an independent garage. All other services were main dealer. Generally very clean but the boot has a leak I think - something that seems to happen to these. It will be sold serviced and MOTd and it has the standard 3 month warranty. Does this seem like a good deal? And does anyone know about anything other than what HJ has said to look out for? It will replace an old Ford Mondeo that seems to be having a few too many problems, and my wife's newer Mondeo doesn't fare much better. Read more
There was a thread not so long ago about the Mazda 6 and the BRs tended to enthuse about them.
And I bet I was amongst their number, rabitting on about the one I've owned for nearly eight years. I must change the record...

You can never have too many, for times when you really need one! I'm with Homer Simpson on this - remember the episode where he was given carte blanche to design a car for his long lost brother's firm - which subsequently bankrupted the company! - and one of the key design features was a great big horn push right "where you need it" which plays La Cucuracha. The pathetic poop sound some modern car horns have (notably low to medium range models in airport hire car fleets) are quite pathetic.
