My 97 306 1.9td started running rough and smoking a little on my way home the other day, it was then hard to start and the level of smoke had increased as had the rough running.

A mechanic friend took a look and thought it to be contaminated fuel ( he poured a bit on the floor, chucked a match on it, and it went up instantly) I have definatley only put diesel in it so my only thought would be that the fuel that i put in was dodgy from the pumps - tesco said they have not had any other complaints. ( i had driven for 100 miles since putting in 50 litres before the problems started... Read more

I've been on the forums here and USA and am resigned to getting it fixed. Can anyone recommend a good independent (ideally with experience of this problem) in the Bristol, North Somerset area?... Read more

Hi all, new to this site, got a question, anyone help? I, for my sins, invested some 8 months ago in a Citroen Picasso 2.0 HDI on an 05 plate....... I know, what a fool!

Anyway, lately it has developed a steering problem that made the steering heavy and or stiff at times, and after pushing through the initial stiffness it frees. Took it to garage... either fluid problem...ok, pump problem....looks to be working fine, rack.....seems ok too, now the steering uj, well after a good lube the problem seemed to be fixed but after a short drive it returned, re greased ok so I think its the uj worn (used to be a problem on old fords if i remember). anyway... research seems to show that this cannot be changed alone be would involve a complete columb change, can anyone shed and light as to wether this is a seperate part or one piece, and how bigger job this is to do.... My SAAB 9-5 has developed an intermittent fuel delivery problem and needs to be replaced. My local saab specialist has said that the diesel injection pump needs to be replaced. The SAAB list price for the part is £1557.00 +VAT then there is the cost of labour at circa £400.00. The SAAB part number is 97228919 (Denso Unit) can you tell me if I can get an alternative from Bosch which will fit my vehicle. I checked on a german website and it listed a Bosch part number for the 3.0 TID as 0445 010 047.

If anyone can help me reduce the cost of this repair I would be eternally grateful. Read more

I have they have done diagnosis but can only access part from saab dealer at full price.

The fuse keeps blowing on my fuel pump, what should be replaced? Read more

wendy w

The fuse blown was fuse 24, which the handbook says only relates to the fuel pump, which I suppose is triggered by the relay. Everything is still fine at the moment, but as I said I will post an update if this does not cure the problem.

I have an XK150 replica. 4.2 jag auto returning 18mpg. Just about too expensive to drive due to fuel. I have considreed and rejected LPG and intend to repower with diesel. A nice big, low tech powerful economical complete with autobox and must be rear wheel drive! BMW probably- 2.5 tds. My question- which BMW engine is best for power, economy, low tech (minimum electronics)? what years/ engine model ? Read more

Houtbai,

I, for one, being a thrifty farmers Son, with a real daft fondness for 6 cylinder diesels, am "blown away" by your very sensible conversion, being not unlike some of the "re-engining" petrol-to-diesel projects on "G" Wagens, in its complexity....
