Following on from my thread about changing our Xsara for a £4k Focus I'm wondering what the real life fuel consumption figures are for 1.6 petrol vs diesel??

Yes, the original exhaust. I hadn't really thought about it. I went for a Focus on reliability but from what you (and my cousin) say, the 306 diesel has many fans for the same reasons. Long may we enjoy cheap motoring.

It sounds like you're more familar with Focuses than I am really. After a few flaky Citroens in my younger days I've happily got used to the firmer ride of the Ford though the relatively smooth roads around here don't test the suspension very hard and I'm a bit of a dawdling doris on speed humps. Have often read that bumpy environments suit Japanese suspension better but this is not an area I'm knowledgeable in. I agree that a £300 difference means the diesel makes more sense than the petrol. After all MPG is what this thread is about.

Good luck anyway and I hope whatever your choice serves you well.

The EU Directive - The Batteries and Accumulators Directive 2006/66/EC
and
The UK Statutory Instrument - 2008 No. 2164 ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION The Batteries and Accumulators (Placing on the Market) Regulations 2008

both mention Automotive batteries which are unsealed and on-sale and not in a way which prohibits them and as the latter Statutory Instrument only came into force two months ago, it sounds unlikely they are banned to me but I agree they seemed to have disappeared from the shops..

Hello all,

Fiesta (endura engine) is shuddering badly (misfiring?) for about 20seconds after you change gear - then it settles down. Whilst its doing this - volumes of smoke (blue from memory) is seen out of the back.

I've bought a compression test kit off ebay - the type that go into the spark plug socket.

A knowledgeable mate has advised doing a "wet & dry" compression test. I've googled and get lots of links - none what-so-ever to do with car cylinder compression!

Any body know of any links on how to perform this test?

Many thanks,

Hey

already changed the PCV filter to great results.

After reading - Best Oil Additives - and others - I think I will stick to just an oil change and maybe another one next year. I will clean what I can out of under the rocker cover....

Hi,

My son's Seat Ibiza has got the engine management fault light on with loss of power and what sound like a misfire.

Anybody got any ideas to help.

Many Thanks Read more

Could be any number of things. Needs plugging into a fault code diagnostic reader - usually a more reliable method than guesswork is.

Hi im having the problem of getting into 2nd on my 2001 corsa comfort. Ive read that its the gear linkage and ive looked at it but couldnt see any wearing. Which part of it usually wears or breaks? It was replaced in march 2006, is there much chance that it just need adjusting? Read more

patrick boyd

just thought id let ppl know that i had ago at adjusting it and followed the instuctions and it didnt go to well, it said to but in a 5mm drill bit into the hole, but that didnt seem to line it up very well. So i had a go at keeping it in line with the hole but moving it too the right abit and know its much better. So if anyone is having a problem with changing gear then its probably worth having ago at adjusting it before you replace the whole gear linkage.

Come to think of it maybe the 2.4.x listings on that page are misprints and should read 2.6.x, but even so they are behind the current versions.

Hi All

Someone reversed into my husband's car a couple of days ago when my husband was stationary. The other party admitted it was his fault (my husband got him to write it on a piece of paper along with his insurance details, etc.) We have since been in touch with him and only today were we able to get through to the guy's Insurance Company who have told my husband that he should go through his own insurance to claim from the other party. But our argument is why should we do this? Surely it's up to the other party's insurance to put it right and no need for our insurance company to be involved?

Can anyone advise how we should proceed? Many thanks. Read more
