Hello all,
Fiesta (endura engine) is shuddering badly (misfiring?) for about 20seconds after you change gear - then it settles down. Whilst its doing this - volumes of smoke (blue from memory) is seen out of the back.
I've bought a compression test kit off ebay - the type that go into the spark plug socket.
A knowledgeable mate has advised doing a "wet & dry" compression test. I've googled and get lots of links - none what-so-ever to do with car cylinder compression!
Any body know of any links on how to perform this test?
Many thanks,

Hi,
My son's Seat Ibiza has got the engine management fault light on with loss of power and what sound like a misfire.
Anybody got any ideas to help.
Many Thanks Read more
Could be any number of things. Needs plugging into a fault code diagnostic reader - usually a more reliable method than guesswork is.
edit - snap

Hi im having the problem of getting into 2nd on my 2001 corsa comfort. Ive read that its the gear linkage and ive looked at it but couldnt see any wearing. Which part of it usually wears or breaks? It was replaced in march 2006, is there much chance that it just need adjusting? Read more
just thought id let ppl know that i had ago at adjusting it and followed the instuctions and it didnt go to well, it said to but in a 5mm drill bit into the hole, but that didnt seem to line it up very well. So i had a go at keeping it in line with the hole but moving it too the right abit and know its much better. So if anyone is having a problem with changing gear then its probably worth having ago at adjusting it before you replace the whole gear linkage.

Come to think of it maybe the 2.4.x listings on that page are misprints and should read 2.6.x, but even so they are behind the current versions.
Hi All
Someone reversed into my husband's car a couple of days ago when my husband was stationary. The other party admitted it was his fault (my husband got him to write it on a piece of paper along with his insurance details, etc.) We have since been in touch with him and only today were we able to get through to the guy's Insurance Company who have told my husband that he should go through his own insurance to claim from the other party. But our argument is why should we do this? Surely it's up to the other party's insurance to put it right and no need for our insurance company to be involved?
Can anyone advise how we should proceed? Many thanks. Read more
Thank you all so much for your help which is very much appreciated. All the best for 2009 to you!
I know you have a 1.0 at present but are you sure you wouldn't prefer the 1.3? It's a good lively engine and uses little extra petrol than the 1.0 as you have to work the 1.0 hard to make reasonable progress.
With regard to options I think the T3 is worth it over the T2, the T Spirit not worth it over the T3.
You'd get a better price selling your car privately - but then you have the hassle factor. Have a look on Autotrader and see what equivalent cars are going for: they tell you whether it's a trade or private sale in each case. Read more
I'd go for a 1.3 personally even if it has to be older. Not too much in it for depreciation I wouldn't think, although the 1.3 is more desirable and therefore probably easier to sell on.
Elder daughter is on her third 1.3 Yaris: she gives her cars a hard time but they have all performed faultlessly (the current one obviously so far). The last one, an 06, at 2 years old and 55,000 miles still felt like new when she traded it in. You should be able to get one with average mileage which will serve you well. Don't pay a premium for very low mileage - it's probably been driven to the shops and no further by an elderly clutch-slipper, or 2 miles every day to the station by a commuter in a hurry.
Others on here will extol the virtues of selling privately but I agree with you. Money is a vital consideration in both buying and selling cars, but not the only one.
Hi,
Sorry if this sounds ridiculous, but my girlfriend's 1.0l micra automatic makes a noise at very low speed (just moving) that can only be described as the noise flipper the dolphin makes when he comes out the water. It also chugs a little at the same time. Anyone know what may be the problem and how much work/money would be involved in sorting it out?
Cheers

Yes, I`m tired of the the old (persistent) one concerning the 1967 cream and red Triumph twin. Its still there in the shed in the interface between memory and something else perhaps.. Worst of all is never getting to ride it again and not being able to find the shed. Its there though gleaming and smelling of oil, petrol and rubber on certain nights as owls fly silently over the house under a full moon.
Amazing how that persists and yet the Yamaha SR500 single never appears.
That`s dreams for you I guess... So what should I go and sit on in a showroom to try to generate something new? I have a 34" inside leg and long arms and feel scrunched up on some modern bikes that don`t have a flat seat to allow you to sit further back.

Oilrag, dreaming is for losers....Either do it, or forget it.

Hey
already changed the PCV filter to great results.
After reading - Best Oil Additives - and others - I think I will stick to just an oil change and maybe another one next year. I will clean what I can out of under the rocker cover....
