A few days ago I became aware that Surrey CC intends to slap yellow lines the length of my road plus parking bays, signs etc.

It is a totally ridiculous idea that I have written to protest about.

I know this sort of parking restriction cannot happen to all readers but beware.

I only got to know about it by a flyer from a resident of the road.
I have mixed information about the proper processes to inform those affected.
I have been reliably informed that a notice was buried somewhere in a local paper and that satisfies the laws.
I have also been informed that I should have received a letter about the scheme.
Even our local councilor was not aware of what was going on.

Not only is the scheme totally over the top but it will further damage the trade of our cherished local shops/traders, encourage residents to pave over front gardens which is against what HMG wants (many integral garages have already been turned into habitable rooms) and simply displace the existing parkers.

All this because some disgruntled old watsit has been moaning about vehicles outside his pad. A survey identified that SEVEN cars a day stayed over six hours.

So once again beware, It could happen to you.

Has anyone else had this sort of problem?

Surrey county council highways are incapable of organising any road junction or parking scheem.Over many years I have had dealings with them re road planning and I can say that all the ones I have meet live on another plannet. They have this superiority that what they say goes and we lesser mortals will just have to accept it.

OK - it's not really a problem yet, but the starting from cold is not as good as it has been these past 4 years and 60,000 miles.

The battery is fine and turns over as well as ever, but on the first start of the day the engine doesn't "fire" after the usual half-second or so of turning over. I have always waited for the glow plug light to go out, so I'm not trying to start it sooner than I have been in the past.

At present it's no big deal - I just let it turn over for longer to get it going, but I wonder if this change in its willingness to fire is the beginning of a possible future problem.

PS This has been happening since before the really cold weather here down South. Read more

I have recently been having problems with acceleration. The car does not want to rev past the 4000 r.p.m mark when driving. Normally on these Zetec's you feel the power cut in.But now its doing the opposite ! If you back of slightly around this mark and accelerate slower the power then comes back in. The car also feels very sluggish and has a rough idle from cold. Ive had the car plugged in to the Snap-On Heritage diagnostic machine and this has shown no faults !! I have changed numerous componants from a doner car and still the problem persists. Does anyone have any ideas please.
Many thanks Read more

"The M5 motorway in east Devon was closed in both directions after a Land Rover with a gas container caught fire.
The road was closed for an hour at junction 27, the Sampford Peverell turn-off, near Tiverton, after the incident at about 1130 GMT. 26 December 2008
Police said the motorway was closed for safety reasons because the vehicle was dual-fuelled, carrying petrol or diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fuel."

I have not seen any other reports of other road closures for this reason.
Will this lead to LPG conversions having warning stickers re LPG?

A couple of years ago, there was a loud `BOOM` while we were sitting in the lounge, rattling the house internal doors. All the neighbours came out to see what it was and a pall of smoke was seen rising upwards half a mile away.

A gas cylinder had been in a shed when it caught fire - the shed being demolished and parts of it blown across the street.

I have just saved this Pug from the scrapman by buying it, i am driving it around and noticing some problems. but generally enjoying the experince of owning this car despite the problems...i like peugeots and want to give this car a break....

i would like to obtain a service manual and service information for a 1999 V6 24v Peugeot 406 exec, leather seats, wood effect trims etc, ac, it has everything....far cry from my bog standard car it replaced...

it has these faults

Stop light in the middle of the speedo/clocks comes on momentarily under various situations.

speedo fails ( due to interface located behing glove box faulty i assume)

ac will need to be recharged..

head lights need to be removed and inspected...Removal of bumper?

remember the days when most of us were learning to drive and the phenomenon of kangaroo fuel stepped in, bobbing back and forth of the head etc...this car does that when the speedo fails on low revs and it's driving me nuts...

i am looking under the bonnet and finding not much room to swing a match stick let alone a cat...

any help kindly appreciated thanks guys.... Read more

Try the first link to the Peugeot servicebox.com web site. I found this the other day, its in french but you will get round it. Then go to the next link and use the usernames and password to enter. Thirdly check out the 3rd link for intructions in english. Next week I will be trying out the diagnostics info that cost 4 euros per hour.
Good Luck Bob

My first two daughters passed at 17 and seven months and 17 and six months respectively. No. 2 is a moderate petrol-head who wants to fly in the RN, so I'm not surprised that she was the one pestering me to get out for more pre-test practice.

Quote about the Golf MK 5:-

"Good: Far greater feeling of genuine quality than Mk IV, decent handling, engine innovations. Bad: Generally hard ride."

What utter nonsense, in my humble opinion, of course. The ride is superb and is acknowleged as being so, by the majority of well informed car hacks and magazines. Read more

boxsterboy i have to disagree. Why NOT have those reviews available? All the others are there, including ones sourced in the UK.

I like the wide range of reviews on offer. If a car isn't relevant to me I'll tend to overlook it in favour of ones I am looking for...

Took SWMBOs Yaris for an MOT today. It failed due to front and rear number plates "missing BS AU145d marking". These were the same plates that passed last year at the same place. It seems, from the well thumbed piece of paper shown to me by the chap on reception, that there has been a change in the law requiring this. The supplier's name and phone number is clearly marked however. As it happens it is going back tomorrow for a drop link to be replaced so only £25 wasted for the new plates. This seems absolutely ridiculous to me and a classic example of trivial legislation but checking on www.motuk.co.uk/manual_630.htm this would appear to be the case. No doubt all the crooks who fake number plates will make sure they put the BS mark on them in future. BS, seems appropriate somehow!

Hi chaps, I think I've read all the reviews and searched the forums and would like to find someone who has been looking at super minis as well (ideally someone with a lot more knowledge than I have). I'd like to spend no more than £7,500 and started looking at low mileage used but there are a few deals out there on low spec. new models (OK maybe I'd need to spend a little more) ... I've been offered a nice ex courtesy Punto (1.4 Active 4d) for around what I want to spend but my wife prefers the Clio (we only keep one car, she doesn't drive but has a say) ! and then the Corsa seems like a good buy ... I don't need speed just reliability and cheap running costs and these are all pretty similar hence my dilemma (of course there's also the Seat, Yaris, Fiesta etc) ... any advice very welcome ... of course maybe I should leave it a couple of months anyway .... decisions decisions. Thanks to one and all for the excellent advice, I'll keep digging, interesting remarks about the Celica, I had one, from new, for about 12 years and it was really excellent (until someone ran into me and wrote it off) ... I was therefore tempted towards the Yaris but it's a little small and I read some bad comments about them here, of course people have bad experiences with any car that's why this is such a great forum, I'm in no hurry so will keep reading. I must say though that having looked at and sat-in most of the super minis none have made me think "I want this" ... unlike my old Celica or current Rover 75 ... oh well. Happy and prosperous New Year to all. Roger
