Uh, they did it again... No cruise control in 1.8 petrol with A/T, have to upgrade to 2.0 just to enjoy the cruise. Why, oh why is Toyota so stiff when it comes to trim levels? They say it's "not that easy". Oh, come on, surely a decent 1.8 petrol power plant can cope with some extra electronics. I just don't buy that, as well as so-called reliability of their new 7-speed CVT autobox.

I have used online breakers to buy parts without any problems until recently I wanted some bits for my 1996 VW Passat I posted an enquiry with one of the companies that offers a country wide service & got a response from a company in Stanley Co Durham I paid online & nothing turned up after a week or so I phoned them several times & was told the parts were no good so I would be refunded. I haven't - various phone calls sorry the computers gone wrong will sort it out etc still no refund Tried to phone in the week running up to christmas, nobody answers phone. I have emailed the 'umbrella company but got no reply.(2 Weeks)
This experience has rather soured my opinion of what promised to be a useful service not a huge sum of money but it is the principle of the thing that bugs me. I wonder if other forum posters have had any problems.
I haven't named any names as requested by the moderators but can if requested by them. Read more

Oh good. I thought an online breaker was someone who hacked into a site like this and did damage.

Mind you if an online breaker was someone who supplied full stops he might be doing us a service.....:)

Getting a noise from the LH front suspension not quite a clonk but quite noticeable when hitting a bump or taking off up hill sound like its coming from the spring. I've jacked the car up nothing 'moves' even when pulling or pushing wheel in all direction nothing obvious with wheel removed all joints are 'solid' spring is loose with suspension at full drop but not falling out just can move it a bit Strut top mounting no movement up down or sideways.
It is driving me nuts as nothing appears to be wrong but the noise is there! any ideas or suggestions? Read more

I can't find a reason & looks as if no one can think of anything either!

I have an interesting "squeak" - sounds a bit like a bird tweet but longer - coming from the rear of my 2004 ZS.
As usual, it's intermittent, starts after a few miles and then usually occurs at around 30mph.
Road surface or engine speed appear to be irrelevant.
My thoughts are a wheel bearing.
What are your thoughts?

Ok. I've had a Xantia 1.9 TD estate for a few years, and mainly paid a fortune through garage servicing for all maintenance. Having had BX's before, and fiddled sort of familiar with the suspension system, but never dismantled before.
Due to an accident, I've just bought a Xantia 1.8 16v LX for my son to use temporarily, which unfortunately rides like a brick, so we've decided to bite the bullet and replace the spheres ourselves, and we have found plenty of advice here on how to do it.
One question which springs to mind is it looks like the previous owner may have overfilled with non-Citroen LHM, to compensate for a slight leak near the rear N/S sphere.
The mushroom gauge on top the reservoir doesn't seem to move at all, despite us syphoning out a litre of fluid from the reservoir, leaving the internal level approximately the same as my Xantia estate which floats like a dream.
Is the float jammed in an up position (can this happen?) and will this be rectified when we take out the old LHM, and flush the reservoir and the system?
Or are we barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks.
Yep checking level engine running and raised position - I'm familiar with all that which is why I thought it strange there is no move in the "mushroom".
We took a litre out of the reservoir yesterday, and by using a clean kebab stick as a depth gauge found it then to be at the same level as my diesel Xantia (recently resphered and flushed) give or take a mil.
I tried gentle tapping to see if it'd drop in all positions and after some "Citrobics" but to no avail, so a smart method of freeing it up would be good to know, if the petrol flush out of itthe reservoir and the filters doesn't do it.
New spheres are "en route", my lad has access to all the kit as he is apprenticed at a garage (smart move on my part eh), and a ramp obviously there so safe working's no prob. Pity its not a Citroen dealership is all I say!
If I can save by doing it myself and learn in the process suits me.

Vauxhall's official recommendation is:-

X17DTL engine = every 8 yrs / 80,000 miles (whichever comes sooner)
X17DT/L engine from 2000 MY = every 10 yrs / 100,000 miles (whichever comes sooner)

I've seen this a few times as a pedistrian, this is going to be hard to explian but I wll try my best.

You have a junction where there is lights but no filter, you want to turn right, but what if there is a pedistrian sequence on the road you want to turn into? How do you know if the lights have changed when there isn't any? On these junctions you go through on green then get in position and wait till the exist is clear then go, so how can their be a pedistrian sequence right next to it? I am right in assuming the pedistrian bit detects when the cars have all cleared the exist then changes?

I've also noticed at the four banks in Chorlton [Manchester] where an identical type junction exists there same thing happens, but here a lot of cars go through the pedistrian sequence even though the green man is on so many cars just go past unaware, it is no common in fact it must be a fault with the road design rather than bad driving?

I hope the above make ssense. Read more

It *did*, but only in the East. I have a feeling they still do in the East.

But at least with a permanent filter sign you know to watch out for pedestrians. In France they're quite happy to give both parties a green light.
